We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
As I often explain, there are cultural differences. Western civilization has Christian foundations, regardless of individual attitudes. It's not about whether you go to church.
It very much is about whether you go to church. If no one goes to church then eventually no one knows or cares about the religion. The Christian foundation will crumble and be replaced with something else, something not as good.
It's one reason that God commanded the Jews to observe the Sabbath and why skipping Sunday Mass is a mortal sin.
White supremacy claims and wokeness are irrational responses to the phenomenal success of western civilization which comes mostly from a white, Judeo Christian culture and which produced capitalism and the revelation of God-given rights, among other essentials of progress and the modern technological world.
Only partly correct: Western civilization is founded on two cities: Jerusalem and Athens and I suspect more on the latter than the former, though this is certainly not widely acknowledged. If you consider that logic, geometry, aesthetics, history, moral philosophy, political theory, lyric and epic poetry, tragic and comic drama, music theory and a host of other things are part of Western civilization, then they all came from Athens.
