We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The foreclosure aside, I suspect that luxury condo building stood empty for so long is because the developers built it in a neighborhood people who can afford luxury apartments don't want to live in. That said, I absolutely agree they should be putting American homeless in there, not illegal aliens.

How long is it going to take before our ever-so-wonderful "leaders" decide that it would be cheaper to round up the illegals and send them home?

It's bad precedent. Governments should not "own" condos or homes that are foreclosed on. It will become a money pit that traps the taxpayer. Let the normal legal processes take place and the government stay in it's lane.

As for homeless. almost all of them are homeless because of addiction. If you want to help them commit them to substance abuse treatment. Don't just throw money at them.

At the least, in lieu of substance abuse treatment, incarcerate them for a month which will "break" their addiction and release them. Incarceration is better for them and safer for everyone. If they repeat, and many will, incarcerate them again and again until they figure it out. But don't allow them to run free harming good people and destroying cities. Let me be clear. Don't give them money, food, clothing a place to sleep, give them only jail.

It is condemnation to the Plantation slavery where learning, reading, and writing were forbidden and punished. Now it is just self-imposed and encouraged.

What people miss here is that culture determines success.

Dump reading, because it's 'acting white' - and it's adopting a cultural trait that'll make it hard to succeed later on.

Dump showing up for a job because that's 'acting white' and it's adopting a cultural trait that sets you up for poverty.

Adopt a cultural trait of casual drug use, and you set yourself up for problems later on.

Adopt a cultural trait of glorifying criminals, and don't be surprised when your young decide it's more 'exciting' to be the bad guys and prey on the surrounding people.

Seems like a lot of people want to set up black youth to fail. God knows the home cultures they come from may be dysfunctional - but it's racist to try to make sure the kids have the tools to succeed even if they don't want to use them?

Must be something in the water there... because that's just insane.

So standardized testing really does give you a good idea of how a student might perform, shocker. Our entire education system just doesn’t do enough to clown itself evidently.

Did Barb Lee pay a $50 minimum wage? And of course that moron is on Appropriations. Shouldn’t be a shock as to why we’re screwed.

Regarding Trump's civil trial loss and the $455 million judgement, I don't want our country to be like this. Where the government punishes their opponents and the courts allow/approve it. Letitia James should be disbarred and perhaps jailed for this atrocity as should the moron judge. I do not understand why any honest person, any person with decency and morals would go along with this and worse approve of it. The system is broken, badly broken. If this stands and our "leaders" don't fight to overturn this then the people should rise up and throw these criminals out of office and into jail.

Nonsense! Rep Lee is once again making the assumption that you purchase only for a day. You purchase fresh fruit and vegetables for a week, and average the cost over a week. Onions and carrots are 80c-$1.00 a pound where I live, and in 2013 when Rep. Lee wrote this nonsense, they were cheaper. That is certainly within food stamp budget.

I doubt that Rep. Lee has the competence to manage a Dari-Queen.
