Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

As for coffee and our WEF superiors:
"The Lord will smite you with madness and blindness and confusion of mind..." "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy..." Bingo. "The Lord will smite you with madness and blindness and confusion of mind..."
For the WEF, I'm afraid that ship has sailed. Yep. I think it's altered their DNA.
The coffee-gibbering is just more evidence. QUOTE: They Are Coming For Your Coffee Now A reduction of 70% in greenhouse emissions are quite possible for coffee production without a significant increase in price by using "smart" fertilization and water use, and shipping by sea rather than air. Additional reductions can be had by roasting before shipment. In other words, pointing out the high greenhouse gas emissions associated with coffee production is a step towards reducing those greenhouse gas emissions, and not a plan to take away your coffee. Yeah, right. That’s what you Marxist communists have been saying for well over a hundred years now. Your evil plans always end up with millions starving to death, or baring starvation, you outright kill us. Bugger off.
B. Hammer: That’s what you Marxist communists have been saying for well over a hundred years now.
We are not a Marxist. Robust markets are essential for economic growth and general prosperity. While government regulation is important, we believe that too much government intrusion is not only bad economic policy, but also subject to abuse. The private sector acts as an important power balance and is a bulwark of liberty. Nor do we believe that society is destined to evolve into some sort of egalitarian utopia as envisioned by Marx. In any case, we did not know that smart fertilization was part of fundamental Marxist theory. Is that found in Das Kapital? Nanotechnology and biotechnology can resolve outstanding issues with overuse of resources, such as fertilizer, while reducing costs and increasing yields. They are instead "STALINISTS!"

I'll stipulate that you're opposed to the government prohibiting doctors from mutilating or giving life altering hormones to minors with serious psychological problems. That you oppose prohibitions on porn in school libraries. Or prohibitions on discriminating against whites or in favor on non-whites/non-Asians. Other than that, you're full of it. Or maybe you can link to ten comments from AVI, here, Bookworm room, or coyote blog where you have ever voiced opposition to government power. I'll wait. Oh, never mind, you can't do it. Bcause you're a liar. James: I'll stipulate that you're opposed to the government prohibiting doctors from mutilating or giving life altering hormones to minors with serious psychological problems.
As a general rule, the medical care of minors should be decided by parents and their medical providers consistent with medical standards. It’s usually best if people accept their bodies for what they are—absent medical issues that require intervention. But people will be people. James: That you oppose prohibitions on porn in school libraries. Are you referring to the violence, genocide, and incest found in the Bible? Or perhaps to discussions of sex in dictionaries. As a general rule, librarians are best suited to make decisions about their collections based on standard methods that balance access with protecting children. Exaggeration and political hysteria are rarely suitable. James: where you have ever voiced opposition to government power We just did in our previous comment. An overpowering government is a threat to liberty and would be contrary to our views. More generally, complex systems can be more flexible and stable than rigid systems, because of the interweaving and distribution of network connections. Modern democracies are such a complex system, with power distributed throughout: legislative, judicial, executive; federal, state, local; elections and representation; public and private property; public infrastructure and entrepreneurship; political parties, families, churches, neighborhoods; clubs, civic organizations, lobbying groups; robust markets and a social safety net; individual and collective liberties; etc. Wasted effort. Quit trying to solve imaginary problems.
ruralcounsel: Quit trying to solve imaginary problems.
Anthropogenic global warming is a strongly supported scientific finding, including from the basic physics of heat and radiation. See Arrhenius, On the Influence of Carbonic Acid in the Air upon the Temperature of the Ground, London, Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science 1896. It's not a scientific "finding" whatever that is.
Y'all made it up. As y'all have been reminded numerous times before Arrhenius to his credit later admitted his calculations were way wrong.

AGW does not exist anywhere except in your mind and the minds of all the controlling, grifting, power hungry authoritarians in the uniparty, academia, and the MSM. There is no CO2 problem. If anything we need MORE CO2.

Yale students walk out of class on first day of semester to protest school’s ‘complicity in genocide.’
So what? If they stay out of class, they flunk the course. They flunk enough courses, they get an academic suspension for the semester. They get enough academic suspensions, they get expelled. Problem solved. And they even solve the problem of overcrowded classrooms. End asylum. Put a complete hold on all legal immigration and citizenship until all the illegals here are deported. Restrict foreigners and foreign companies from owning businesses, land and homes. Make America American again.
It's "Impossible" To Destroy Vast Hamas Tunnel Network
----------------------- Not an official communication. It's that old Bolshie Anshel Pfeffer in Ha'aretz - Israel's even Lefter-than-the-NYT self-styled "newspaper of record". And quoted by zerohedge - which goes as crazy as Unz.com when it comes to the Joos. If you believe NPR, believe this... Meanwhile there are mass protests by Israeli citizens at the Kerem Shalom crossing point, blocking the next convoy of "humanitarian aid". Simultaneously, tapes and documents have been released showing the hesitant, ideologically crippled response of the police, army, and government during the initial hours of the Oct 7 massacre... the leaks are by mid-level functionaries who are worried that the higher echelons are still locked in the old Oslo mentality. All of which is further indication that the Israeli public has done a hard shift right - and intends to hold the generals' and politicians' feet to the fire if need be... no more "limited incursions" like the last five "engagements". Just imagine the amount of manpower, resources and money to build those tunnels, buy and manufacture weapons and physically occupy the hospitals. If the "Palestinians" had put all that effort, money and resources into improving their lives they would be the richest, healthiest, happiest 5 million people on earth.
The Ontario’s College of Psychologists should be more worried that Jordan Peterson will re-educate the re-educators.
Fill the tunnels with helium. It'll kill off Hamas, plus they'll sound pretty funny when they shout, "Allah Akbar!"
Why helium? Use CO2. Helium is to precious to waste on the likes of terrorists.
Once the CO2 has done its job, start leasing the newly-vacant tunnels to folks who will make them productive, say for storing and aging wine or cheese, or maybe growing mushrooms. There might even be a market for Subterranean Settlers.
re: Coming for your coffee
Why is that so unlikely? Doing away with gas engines or commercial flights is much more unlikely, yet people are currently taking steps to do these things. Outlawing coffee, or out-pricing it, is not so difficult. Or, somtimes an outrageous goal is put out there in order to make a slightly less outrageous goal appear more reasonable than it otherwise would. Happens all the time. Make coffee from crickets. You will like nothing you eat or drink but you will be happy or the beating will continue until you are happy.
