Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

'How the right amount of caffeine unlocks lifelong benefits for your body and mind'
I've never been a big coffee person, so I take a preworkout in the morning instead. I try not to go too far over 250 milligrams of caffeine in one sitting because anything over that makes me irritable. I wash L-Theanine down with it and that seems to help. Re Haley surges
QUOTE: A little more than 4 in 10 likely primary voters in the CNN/UNH poll are undeclared voters who plan to vote in the GOP primary (45%), rather than registered Republicans. About one-third describe themselves as moderates (32%). Trump leads Haley by 40 percentage points among conservatives, by 37 points among registered Republicans and by 17 points among those without college degrees, the poll finds. But Haley tops Trump by 42 points among moderates, 26 points among undeclared voters and 12 points among college graduates. Christie lands in second between Haley and Trump among each of those three groups. https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/09/politics/cnn-new-hampshire-poll/index.html EPPS ??
So does Epps' 12 mos probation for a charge with max 6 mos in the hoosegow make him a '2A Disqualified Person'? Just wondering. QUOTE: Ray Epps Dodges Prison Sentence - Gets Probation, Community Service For Telling J6ers To Go "Into The Capitol" The government asked for six months. Few people were sentenced to prison who didn't enter the Capitol, unless they committed violent acts. Epps also cooperated from the beginning, immediately surrendering and taking advantage of the "no trial discount". QUOTE: Meanwhile, there are truly peaceful protestors ROTTING in prison simply for wandering onto Capitol grounds. Please be specific. tired dog: So does Epps' 12 mos probation for a charge with max 6 mos in the hoosegow make him a '2A Disqualified Person'? The statute 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(2) has misdemeanor penalties of up to a year. The federal government generally can't restrict his gun possession for non-violent crimes or most misdemeanors. State laws vary. See Range v. ATF. Compare to Guy Reffitt, who carried a firearm onto Capitol grounds, engaged in attacks on police with the explicit purpose of stopping the electoral count, then threatened his children if they contacted authorities.
Don: It's almost like he knew what he was doing.
Clearly not. Epps is in hiding due to right-wing conspiracy theories, and, having admitted his guilt, Epps now stands convicted of a federal crime. He lost everything. Ah, the Quibble-DickZ and their right-wing conspiracy theories again.

From the same people who called doubters of the Steele dossier conspiracy theorists while they themselves carried the water for it until the end.
Hoss: From the same people who called doubters of the Steele dossier conspiracy theorists
The Steele dossier was always considered raw, unverified intelligence. Though it did correctly allege that the Russians were attempting to interfere in the U.S. election for the benefit of Trump, some of the other allegations have little or no support. As for Epps, every claim we made is supported by the evidence, including the finding of the court which gave Epps probation because “You were hounded out of your home and hounded out of your town,” Judge Boasberg told Epps. “You had to live like a fugitive because of the lies of others.”

I've never seen the Soprano's on TV. Was it available on the alphabet channels or only on pay for it cable? Maybe I just missed it. I find TV hard to watch anymore. An unbelievable amount of reruns, seems everything every day I have seen before more than once. Also almost nothing new or interesting. I remember when Survivor first started it was about "surviving" now it is heavily scripted about social/political interactions and making sure people of color and sexual preference are highlighted. In fact I haven't seen a normal person on it for maybe 6-8 years now. I used to watch HGTV but it too has fallen victim to DEI and scripting and any actual home improvements just kind of appear after all the cast goes through their DEI script. I also tend to dislike soap operas, which I define as any show that is continued next week.
Decolonize: Every "Indian" tribe you can name or ever heard of was themselves guilty of colonization. Immigration to the Americas has been going on for 18,000 years or so. So 18,000 years ago some groups of people immigrated here and created a culture and live in peace and harmony for centuries. You don't know the name of any of these people/cultures but some of their artifacts have names; like the Folsom spear point. But it's named after a 20th century town and not after the people who created in some 15,000 years ago.
So why don't we know anything about these "native" (sarcasm) people? Well the answer is simple and illustrative because a new wave of immigrants came here and killed or enslaved the old "native" (sarcasm again) people and that is called colonization. And there were numerous subsequent waves of immigrants most from Asia, some from the South Pacific and even some from Europe all of who came, saw and conquered the previous conquerors in what can only be defined as classic colonization. There are not "native" Americans no matter what they or their surrogates tell you. All of them colonized this country and killed and enslaved the previous colonizer slavers. OneGuy: Every "Indian" tribe you can name or ever heard of was themselves guilty of colonization.
Genetics indicates that modern Indians are descendants of the original inhabitants of the Americas who came from Siberia. So the Indian tribes never fought each other, invaded each other’s territory, never enslaved each other even though they all descended from Siberians?
But while we’re on the subject of “colonization”, why aren’t the millions of people from all over the world coming over southern border considered “colonizers”? I live on the shores of beautiful Lake Huron. This majestic body of water was named for the Huron Indians. They were a tribe wiped out entirely by another tribe called the Iroquois. Apparently all being descendants of the same Siberians disqualifies this from being called an act of genocide. Zach bot logic at its finest.
mudbug: So the Indian tribes never fought each other, invaded each other’s territory, never enslaved each other
Never said that. Lord Heathen: {Huron or Wyandot} were a tribe wiped out entirely by another tribe called the Iroquois. The Wyandotte Nation is not extinct. Incidentally, the Wyandot are an Iroquoian people. What would I know? I only live here. I've never met anyone that identifies as Huron. Chippewa for sure, Mohawk maybe. Try walking out your front door for once. Give Google search results a rest. You'll be a better human being for it.

You now know that the Wyandotte Nation is not extinct, so there is that.

Multiple waves of immigration came from NE Asia. We don't know who was "original". There aren't many places on earth where we know which humans were "indigenous". North Sentinel Island, Iceland maybe.
"Genetics indicates that modern Indians are descendants of the original inhabitants of the Americas who came from Siberia."
Yes! All the surviving tribes. BUT, if the second or third or forth immigration from Siberia each killed all the previous immigrants how would the DNA be different? It wouldn't. So your point proves nothing. OneGuy: OneGuy: Every "Indian" tribe you can name or ever heard of was themselves guilty of colonization. Immigration to the Americas . . . Well the answer is simple and illustrative because a new wave of immigrants came here and killed or enslaved the old "native" (sarcasm again) people and that is called colonization.
The problem with your statement is the conflation of different meanings of colonization. If you mean how ancient people from Siberia and Beringia undertook "migration to and settlement in an inhabited or uninhabited area", then sure. However, the modern sense of the word is the "subjugation of a people or area *especially as an extension of state power*". For example, the colonies in North America were an extension of French and British power, which resulted in a conflict between the powers over control of North America in the Seven Years' War. But the initial migration from Siberia and Beringia to the Americas was not an extension of state power — because states hadn't yet developed. If you want to talk about violence among Amerindians, that's fine, but it shouldn't be conflated with state colonization, which is what most people mean when discussing colonization. Studies of ancient DNA indicate that there were multiple waves of migration from Siberia and Beringia and perhaps back again, but that most Amerindians are descendants of people who moved south and radiated out into unoccupied lands. "Colonizer" is an epithet reserved for any group of people whose skin color is white. Of course, the people who use it don't stop to think that there are a lot of non-Europeans who are pretty light-skinned.
RebeccaH: "Colonizer" is an epithet reserved for any group of people whose skin color is white.
European colonization is considered distinct from most of history. While colonization (from Latin colonus for farmer) can mean moving into an uninhabited area, colonization usually refers to settling in an area to establish control by a distant state. This is as opposed to imperialism (from Latin imperium for authority), which establishes state control without settlement. QUOTE: Stuart's Wednesday Potpourri . . . In another example of the many petty humiliations of life as a presidential candidate, RFK Jr. had to bail on his own birthday fundraiser gala. A bunch of celebs were slated to attend, but then Martin Sheen, Dionne Warwick, Mike Tyson, and Andrea Bocelli all backed out. Martin Sheen and Dionne Warwick didn't back out. They had never agreed to attend. Warwick's response was brilliant: "This is absolutely ridiculous. If you are going to lie on my name, at least lie about something cool. 'Revealed: Dionne collaborates with Rihanna on new album…' " Bocelli had never agreed to attend either. Completely coincidentally, he won't be in the United States for RFK's birthday. Convicted rapist, Mike Tyson, also declined to attend.
Such a shame. Warwick would have brought the pot and Sheen the Whine. :)
About western PA. It's good to see Democrats still don't understand why they've lost the region. I'm from Butler PA, the home of the largest steel mill operating in PA. It melts scrap and makes "specialty materials" - high priced stainless and electrical steel. I've worked in the plant. My dad made a career of it. I know why the political shift occurred, but I'm not sharing it.
I missed The Sopranos the first time around because I didn't think I wanted to watch a TV series about mobsters. But I'm older now and nothing much shocks me anymore, so as HBO has been running a marathon of all six seasons of The Sopranos, I've been binge watching. Good stuff, and chock full of characters you love to hate. Also, Gandolfini was a surprisingly good actor.

Judge Judy is old and should be forgiven for not recognizing that DEI determines who gets shot and who doesn't. Working class turned right. What is right? Right/Left are imaginary concepts invented by the French to distinguish between the seating arrangement of authoritarian marxists seated on the left side and authoritarian fascist seated on the right side of their parliament. They are both socialist in nature but quibble over who runs the economy, the politicians themselves or their bestest friends.
It is a holdover concept from the enlightenment where they dispatched with God in order to become their own authoritarian gods. |
