Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Stuart's Wednesday Potpourri Destroying Democracy to Save It: Maine Shows the Danger of Zealots in our Legal System VDH: The Utter Insanity of Joe Biden’s Open Border - If the amorality of illegal immigration were not so deleterious to Americans, its absurdity would be laughable. Across the globe, millions of people are on the move, defying borders and violating laws to escape poor countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and break into rich countries. The United States is their No. 1 destination. Thank You, But… Virtually without exception, the United States has always opposed Israel’s decision to go to war Gift the tiny Gaza Strip to Egypt, please. Illegal immigration isn't just about the poor and their chance for a job or endless welfare. It isn't just about the fact that cheap labor will make more billionaires and impoverish middle class America. It isn't just about the breakdown in law and respect for law. It isn't just about giving Democrats political power for 100 years. It isn't just about the NWO taking control of our country. It isn't just about the thousands and tens of thousands of deaths from illnesses brought here by the illegals. More than anything this issue is about the survival of America. In just the last three years the known/acknowledged illegal immigration exceeds the entire population of New Jersey. The total number of illegals in this country exceeds the population of California. And there is no end in sight. In a few years the total number of immigrants legal and illegal will exceed the total number of true Americans. We are becoming an occupied country and this will end in a nasty civil war. And make no mistake, the Democrats/communists who engineered this invasion knew all along it would end in a nasty, deadly civil war... and yet they did it anyway.
It's also about giving the criminaliens the right to vote - and make no mistake, they'll get it - so permanent Democrat supermajorities can be installed.
Self-control. Yeah, maybe Jesus knew what he was talking about when he taught the prayer "...and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
Mark Twain had something to say about "lead us not into temptation". Then again, after a lifelong study of humanity, he was a misanthrope.
I can resist everything but temptation. --Oscar Wilde
Why give Gaza to Egypt? Let Israel have. They run things much better than Egypt.
Ever notice the Left always accuses others of being exactly what they are: Authoritarian tyrants. Give in to them or suffer the consequences. They accumulate power by any means necessary. They want everyone to be as miserable as they are. Destroyers not builders. No one wants Gaza, least of all the Israelis.
I rather suspect the IDF will finish the job of reducing Hamas to whatever degree satisfies the Israeli government, then they'll pull out, build a new, reinforced perimeter and call it a day. While retaining the option of thumping out any future attempts to rebuild terrorist facilities there. "Gift Gaza to Egypt" - it is my understanding that Gaza was offered to Egypt back in the day and Egypt declined the offer, which is why Gaza is "independent". It should also be noted that Egypt, having had ample evidence of Palestinians' inability to play nicely (think their attempt to overthrow the Jordanian monarchy while resident in that state), made very certain that their border with southern Gaza was heavily blocked off save for one border crossing. It is my understanding that they discovered tunnels in that area which they promptly closed (some say be flooding).
At any rate, Egypt wants nothing to do with the Palestinians of Gaza. I would endorse the idea to give Gaza to Egypt, except that Egypt is a Muslim country and sooner or later, the radicals always seem to get back in power. Better to have Gaza administered by Israel as a buffer state.
Gaza, Egypt.
Tried that. Egypt dont want it. 25% of Gaza is egyptian moved there under Ottomans (Jabalya). Egypt has said "no" to gaza in past. Too many pali's "The price of failure: Outgoing Harvard President Claudine Gay is still set to earn $900,000-a-year by returning to professor's job at embattled college's political sciences department"
Yes, it's going to be hard for Gay. Making all those little economies to cope with a reduced income is a challenge so many folks have to face these days. "Gay will now return to a role within the political science department, and will retain a salary on the same level as while she was president."
Cheating upwards, Gay returns to low-output low-impact scholarship, soothed by a $900,000/year salary. Name of harrasing girl in Mall:

Have owned two for 7 years. great cars; easy charging (home charger with solar panels, but I use the tesla supercharger) Quiet, no repairs, none in 7 years. Your expensive car has absolutely nothing to do with my health. :)
The essence of the new green deal: it works for people who can afford to replace their vehicle every 3 years, everyone else can go and eat bugs.
If you have 100s of square feet of solar panels and nice sunny summer days, it takes about 4 days to charge one of your two Tesla's.
I suppose there are some rich idiots who do that kind of thing. But I call BS on your claim. ns: 25% of Gaza is egyptian moved there under Ottomans (Jabalya).
Most sources seem to indicate that the vast majority of residents of Gaza are Palestinian Arabs, with the majority being refugees from current-day Israel. Do you have a citation otherwise? Keep in mind that many ethnic Palestinians may have been working in Egypt for some time before returning to historic Palestine. Rebecca H: Better to have Gaza administered by Israel as a buffer state. The belief in the right of self-determination would mean such an administration would be perceived as unjust and would consequently be politically unstable over the long run. At some point control has to be internationalized with a view to self-government at some point. However, Israel's security interests will have to be guaranteed for the long run. Israel can't countenance a permanent presence of a hostile terrorist power on its borders. B. Hammer: Authoritarian tyrants. As he advocates allowing Israelis to permanently rule over another people. JJM: I rather suspect the IDF will finish the job of reducing Hamas to whatever degree satisfies the Israeli government, then they'll pull out, build a new, reinforced perimeter and call it a day. That would be a mistake. The only long term solution has to be a deradicalized Gaza. A deradicalized Gaza? They take selfies with their children holding AK-47s and RPGs. There is no 'coming back' from that level of fanaticism.
Lord Heathen: A deradicalized Gaza?
Human sacrifice used to be nearly universal. The Germans, among the most highly developed nations in history, committed genocide less than a century ago. While humans are much the same creatures as they were in the time of Abraham, culture and institutions and so human behavior have changed. The alternative is ethnic cleansing or permanent oppression of the Palestinian people. Both are politically destabilizing, chaos being the enemy of peace. The Palestinian people are Jews. Ask about the history of Masada, who defeated the Jews on Masada and who renamed the territory Palestine.
Or perhaps explore the books of the Maccabees in the Catholic bible. Islamic Arabs, in Palestine, show up in history centuries later. Islam is the problem and their worst butchery was in India and they still can get along with no other peoples. Humans ARE the same creatures as they were in the time of Abraham and not ALL cultures or institutions are equal. What exactly was it that caused the Germans to cease their genocidal behavior? I'm drawing a blank here, help me out.
RJP: What exactly was it that caused the Germans to cease their genocidal behavior?
Being militarily devastated, occupied for several years, including a massive rebuilding effort. That would be seemingly call into question Lord Heathen's claim that Gaza can't be deradicalized. Most all human societies have had such behaviors, such as the treatment of Indians by the Americans. Or the treatment of Indians by Indians or the treatment of white people by Indians.
"The only long term solution has to be a deradicalized Gaza."
A statement without authority because it cannot be proven i.e, it's an opinion. But you and all the Beltway talking heads and Foggy Bottom policy wonks carry on with that. See if it gets you any further ahead with a "long term solution" than it has for all the Beltway talking heads and Foggy Bottom policy wonks inr the last 75 years. JJM: it's an opinion.
Of course, it’s an opinion, but it’s a reasoned opinion. Leaving a power vacuum behind in Gaza would be leaving a breeding ground for further terrorism. Israel will almost certainly opt for occupation until some other way is found to ensure their long-term security. Level it. Plow it. Spread salt so nothing will grow. Put in land mines. Use it for target practice for the next 100 years.
For those with a 'preppers' mindset, it would be useful to access Survivalblog for Jan 3, today, and read a piece from a reader by the name of 'Lumin'. It will give you quick access to the book "A Great Taking". It is a short book and skipping the introduction, which is his family history, will get you to the meat of the "taking". GET OUT OF DEBT.
