"Giorgia Meloni Falls Short."

The problem is compromise. All politicians, the good, the bad are talked into compromise. And little by little their agenda is compromised. The right way for Italy or any country is how Poland does it. No one gets in and if somehow they get past the border they are arrested and deported. Italy should stop every boat well out in the Mediterranean arrest the human traffickers and tow the boat back to where it came from and sabotage the engine and leave it adrift. That will take the fun out of invading Italy.

Do the same thing at our border. Use rubber bullets and shoot at them in the river or at the top of the wall and turn them back. Any that get through bring them right away to a gate and kick their ass back where they came from. No compromise. If a judge disagrees than declare it an emergency and over ride them. If somehow the courts decide they still have a say in an emergency declaration then declare war.

There is it, right there: The trick that is deployed when the opposition makes progress thwarting the goals of an elected leader. Pin the blame. This is how the game is played, burying the false assumption that an elected President (or Primer Minister) is endowed for their term with all of the powers imaginable at their disposal, to effect promised change.

But change will only come when support for it is unflagging from the voting populace, in spite of what the administrative state and opposition cook up for dirty tricks, to stop it.

It’s almost like they secretly want most of the policies to fail, because the person that is making the policies didn’t come from their fraternity, their tribe. Since you ain’t one of us, you are unworthy of our total support. Selfish political nihilism.

David McGowan wrote an interesting book about the Laurel Canyon music scene: Weird Scenes Inside The Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & The Dark Heart Of The Hippie Dream. You can download the book for free from the Web Archive. IIRC correctly (I read the book 8 years ago) the theme of McGowen’s book is that the hippie/music movements of the 1960s were a creation of the CIA to channel youthful energy away from left-wing political movements. He points out that many of the 1960s musicians who lived in Laurel Canyon had parents with interesting backgrounds. Jim Morrison’s father was Admiral George Stephen Morrison. McGowen tries to associate Admiral Morrison with the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which is a bit of a stretch, because according to Wikipedia, Admiral Morrison was at the time of the Gulf of Tonkin incident commanding a ship off the coast of Japan.
Frank Zappa’s father worked in CBW at the Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland.
John Phillips was born in 1935 at Parris Island, the son of a Marine Corps Captain. He got an appointment at the Naval Academy, but left during his freshman year.

Stephen Stills was yet another military brat who spent time in Central America and the Canal Zone when his father was assigned there.

David Crosby was the son of an Annapolis graduate, who reentered the military in WW2. According to McGowen, his was an intelligence officer in WW2. Wikipedia says that his father, channeling his cinematographer career, made films during his military stint during WW2.

McGowen stretched the template a bit much for Peter Tork/Thorkelson. From page 157 of his book:

Gotta wonder if the “Big Guy” is getting ten percent off the top from the cartels since he’s literally the biggest part and top salesman of their business plan.

I’d say democrats should be ashamed of what they’re encouraging at the border, but there’s no evidence they can feel shame.
