Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: Election results in the Netherlands and Argentina
I was a Red Sox fan in the 50's and 60's. They were a pretty good team with some pretty good players. But they never failed to disappoint. Year after year they would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I am a conservative fan in politics. They have the better ideas and are on the right side of history. But they too never fail to disappoint. Every time conservatives get a position of power they equivocate, argue among themselves, call each other names, waste time on the least important things and worse they allow the left to walk all over them usually by "compromising". I expect nothing more from this latest wave of conservative wins. I expect the left to undermine them and beat them at every turn. Look what the left is doing to Trump. Charged with 97 felonies and defending himself in court so much that he cannot reasonably conduct his campaign. Look what they did to his administration while he was president. Now watch what they will do to the Dutch and Argentina's new leaders. It's the new fabulism, in a weekly serial format. We're told what the latest brilliant entertainment is, provided for us to soak it in and clap like seals, however unlikely, or unbelievable, or impossible the premise might be. And then we have a fresh cycle of our Two Minutes of Hate, with a revolving door of topics and subjects. A new subject every week! Is it a new racial underdog? A new celebrated criminal? A new country that is being unfairly exploited by an evil genius? A new conflict where the oppressor must first be victimized to enhance the experience for the haters?
Pay no attention to those bottom lines, peasants. It only looks like the entire thing is an unsupportable enterprise. QUOTE: How The Democratic Party Faked An American Insurrection "The accusation that my client robbed the bank is contradicted by this video showing that my client is a law-abiding citizen." "Reports that the Taliban used violence to take Kabul are contradicted by video of the Taliban peaceably assembling and praying." As soon as I saw the link, I knew without any doubt that Zach-bot would be here, doing its best to downplay any evidence that goes against its chosen narrative.
I'm just making an observation. I have no desire to, and will not, engage with Zach-bot. RJP: downplay any evidence that goes against its chosen narrative
The point should be clear. Showing people milling around in the Capitol doesn't mean that there is not also evidence of more serious criminal behavior. Most people were released on bail, found guilty of misdemeanors, then sentenced to probation. However, quite a few were convicted of violent crimes, including assaulting the police and even conspiracy to sedition, which entailed imprisonment. Doubt the Quibble-DickZ cn refute this although they will try.

Not just the things that the J6 committee wanted the public to see. If they don't prove anything, why weren't they released to the public? Do you have an actual point?
Clearly, many of the J6 participants having friendly interactions with the police and not being directed by the police is relevant to what occurred. Why weren't those videos released by the J6 committee? James: All of the videos were exculpatory to what happened.
Pointing out that the bank robber waited patiently in line before robbing the teller is not exculpatory. James: If they don't prove anything, why weren't they released to the public? Defendants were provided all videos that showed the defendant, including those showing friendly interactions. There wasn’t a general release for security reasons. QUOTE: How multiculturalism fuels hate . . . In fact, it was only when multiculturalism was institutionalised in the 1970s that the US started to splinter into different, often competing, identity groups, which has fuelled today’s disunity and polarisation. Gee willikers. QUOTE: Hate Is Good . . . People who are merely suspected of hate must surrender “any password necessary to operate it and any encryption key or code necessary to unencrypt the information accessible by the computer” or any device on which the “hate” is suspected to be. That is incorrect. A warrant must be issued by a judge based on reasonable grounds that a crime has been committed. If the grounds are found suspect, then the evidence cannot be used. Is it now illegal to "hate" someone? What is a "hate" crime? Would an example of a "hate" crime be an encrypted document on your computer that disparages someone or a group of people that is not shared with anyone or would it have to be shared with someone? If it has to be shared, then wouldn't the sharing of the document be the crime and not the fact that you possess it (in which case why would the police need your password or encryption keys)? What are "reasonable grounds" to suspect some one is has committed a "hate" crime? Could a "reasonable ground" for a warrant be that the judge "reasonably" suspects someone of a "hate" crime?

mudbug: Would an example of a "hate" crime be an encrypted document on your computer that disparages someone or a group of people that is not shared with anyone
No. That wouldn't constitute a crime under Irish law. mudbug: If it has to be shared, then wouldn't the sharing of the document be the crime and not the fact that you possess it (in which case why would the police need your password or encryption keys)? It could be evidence to support a criminal charge, including aggravating conditions of a separate crime. mudbug: What are "reasonable grounds" to suspect some one is has committed a "hate" crime? Could a "reasonable ground" for a warrant be that the judge "reasonably" suspects someone of a "hate" crime? Reasonable grounds is a common law concept. Reasonable grounds means there is sufficient evidence to justify the actions authorized by the warrant, and that the warrant specify the place and items subject to the warrant. It's governed by case law. Keep in mind that if the purported reasonable grounds are found to be suspect, the evidence can be suppressed, so law enforcement is incentivized to use due diligence in warrant applications. In addition, judges are independent of law enforcement OMG. The law makes "hate speech," very widely defined a crime. So the warrant will be based upon the alleged exitance of prohibited speech. No other suspected crime is necessary. Meaning you don't have a point. As is often the case.
James: The law makes "hate speech," very widely defined a crime.
That wasn’t the point being addressed. A warrant would still require reasonable grounds. For instance, if there messages posted to the internet to eliminate all the Catholics, and the IP is traced to a particular domicile, then that could constitute reasonable grounds. To address your larger point, a weakness of the proposed Irish law is that it doesn’t provide a strict definition of “hatred,” but leaves it up to judges to determine when the line has been crossed. Most would probably agree that calls for the elimination of all Catholics or Protestants in a country that has struggled with religious strife should be restricted. But there are a lot of gray areas that could infringe on free speech. Judges would have that responsibility. Other provisions of the proposed law are more similar to U.S. law in that they provide enhancements to penalties for other crimes, such as assault. The "hate crimes" was invented to add additional charges and additional opportunities to charge those people the left hates. Kind of ironic. When a black person or group of black people commit a crime against a white person and even say they did it because they hate white people you never see a hate crime charge. But if a black person assaults a white person with a gun and tries to rob or kill them and the white guy shoots the black guy the first thing brought up is "could this be a hate crime?" Hate crimes make no sense. Either you did or you did not break a law without regard to why you broke the law. Charge the law breaker with breaking the law, DUH! Forget the politically and racially motivated "hate" motive. If you kill or assault someone intentionally it has to be from hate. It wasn't out of love.
We see in Europe where now speaking out on an issue is a hate crime. The crime? What you said hurt feelings! Incredible! Based on that premise wouldn't it be a hate crime then to charge someone with a hate crime??? I know it would hurt my feeling if I were charged with a hate crime. OneGuy: When a black person or group of black people commit a crime against a white person and even say they did it because they hate white people you never see a hate crime charge.
That's false. When there is evidence that the crime was motivated by hate, then it can and has been charged.
OneGuy: Charge the law breaker with breaking the law, DUH! Forget the politically and racially motivated "hate" motive. Burning a cross on someone's lawn isn't just vandalism. It's an attack against the entire community and should be punished as such. "Burning a cross on someone's lawn isn't just vandalism. It's an attack against the entire community and should be punished as such."
It should be punished for the crime it is. Nothing more, nothing less. Otherwise it is the nose under the tent of a slippery slope to tyranny. Why wouldn't wearing the kefir by a hate crime? Glorifying terrorists and the despicable inhuman acts they committed. Why wouldn't rioting for Hamas be a hate crime? Why wouldn't sending money to Hamas be a hate crime? Why wouldn't chanting "from the river to the sea" be a hate crime? OneGuy: It should be punished for the crime it is.
So, the KKK burning a cross in a Black person's front lawn because they dared to vote would be a $50 fine. Glad to see you want to bring the full force of law to protect the right to vote. OneGuy: Why wouldn't wearing the kefir by a hate crime? Glorifying terrorists and the despicable inhuman acts they committed. The keffiyeh is a traditional headdress, originating with the Bedouins. OneGuy: Why wouldn't chanting "from the river to the sea" be a hate crime? Under U.S. law, it's only a hate crime as an aggravating condition of some other crime, such as assault. "The keffiyeh is a traditional headdress, originating with the Bedouins."
Yes, and why? To protect them from the harsh environment that they lived in. The heat, the blowing sand, the sun. So why are they wearing a kefir in 40 degree weather in America? They don't wear them all the time only when they want to demonstrate their hate of the jews or Americans. To try to make excuses for it or rationalize it as something else is pure BS. Europe is beginning to ban the wearing of a hijab. Why? Not because they are opposed to "tradition" but rather because it is obvious that the Hijab is used to divide people and demonstrate their hatred of the citizens of Europe. It's time to ban these hate symbols. If you are a legal immigrant than assimilate. If you don't want to assimilate go back to your traditional country and wear your traditional clothing. Don't bring that shit here. Leave your hate in the country you left and become an American. OneGuy: So why are they wearing a kefir in 40 degree weather in America?
Why do Texans wear cowboy boots to the office? Why do Americans wear American flag pins? Why do Jews wear shtreimels?

Of course it isn't. But it could easily be a terroristic threat. Further, burning crosses in people's yards hasn't been a thing for a long time. As in before the concept of a "hate crime" existed.
But since you're on board with hate crimes, how about aggravated penalties for perpetrators of fake hate crimes, since that is much more common than real hate crimes and is as bad or worse for society? Yes, it requires proving intent to intimidate. See Virginia v. Black 2003 (not so long ago).
Ignorant plus arrogant, equals disastrous results. I’m willing to bet that Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, knew what Mr. Reagan actually said. It’s the natural inclination of a lefty to lie about things; rewrite history. It’s how they fundamentally transform a society.
The article " Byron Wien’s 20 Life Lessons" had an interesting lesson. He referenced "10 surprises", that is 10 things that happened to the economy where he and his company guessed wrong. Fair enough it happens to everyone and we learn from our mistakes. But, if you understand economics and are paying attention you would of course know that these things that are happening are not just out of the blue or handed down from god. They are the result and the intent of those people who manage our economy and spending. We didn't just because of bad luck get high inflation, it was the inevitable result of Bidenomics, poor legislative choices or Democrat spending. He would have to know this BUT went to great lengths to not say it. Why? Because he is a political animal and he knows the price of criticizing the party of no tolerance for criticism.
Another example is the surprise that the economy is doing better than predicted in spite of the terrible and fool hardy agenda of the left and the ever skyrocketing national debt. But again he would have to know this is a Potemkin village constructed by the FED buying up the debt with make believe money. This, buying up the debt with fake money, is from an economic standpoint an egregious mistake that can only lead to an even worse disaster than what was prevented in the first place by this can kicking mistake. The Democrats, with some Republican help, has flooded our economy with fake/borrowed money to hide the fact that the economy is in a slow motion crash simultaneously with an inflation rate at least double the official rate. We are in uncharted territory. Yes government have done similar things in the past; Germany in the 20's, Argentina, Venezuela, etc. but these were not the largest economy in the world making the dumbest economic decisions in the world. If as expected our economy crashes from these decisions and the piper must be paid there isn't enough money in the world to pay the piper. There is no soft landing or legitimate turn around that you can make. About the only legitimate choice is a national bankruptcy followed by starting from scratch. That would work; everyone loses everything and begins again with nothing and tries to stay alive. But, it ignores the fact that there are international threats who are waiting for exactly this to destroy us. Perhaps that is the reason we are kicking the can down the road, i.e. that our leaders know we are toast but they can put of the inevitable for awhile in hopes of a miracle. I think that is where we are, on the precipice of the worlds largest crash hoping for a miracle. Cheer up OneGuy - I recommend this method of coping...

What if the student mob had caught her? Come on man! We know the answer.
