Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"“He called me later in the day on that Tuesday and he told me that there were no medical findings that showed any injury to the vital structures of Mr. Floyd’s neck. There were no medical indications of asphyxia or strangulation,” Sweasy said, according to the transcript."
I'll tell you what's even worse: This was publicly reported at the time. While the riots were gearing up into full throttle, this information came out - it's not a new discovery. It's not some revelation. It was known that his blood had fentanyl and metabolic products in concentrations that placed well within the 'known to cause fatalities' bracket. So, George Floyd didn't die of natural causes, he died of a fentanyl overdose, which was due to his practice of 'hooping', as he disclosed to the cop on the scene, and probably because he swallowed most of his stash to destroy evidence at the scene. Further pills were found in the squad car afterwards. Floyd was in terrible physical condition with moderately advanced arteriosclerosis (arterial blockage) and already compromised cardio-pulmonary capacity. So what's absolutely disgraceful is that they still cannot bear to draw attention to the drug overdose, and prefer to call it 'natural causes'. How many people have even seen the full 28 minute video where Floyd repeatedly says he can't breath well before being on the ground? He wouldn't get in the back of the police vehicle due to extreme claustrophobia even when they offered to wind the windows down and put an officer in the back with him. They were bending over backwards to get him to comply. In the end he even asked to be on the ground. But that's not what the world was shown. And here we are...
Thanks for posting that. It changed my opinion on the death of Mr. Floyd. The author has credibility.
George Floyd led a tragic existence. It would appear that no one cared for him, except, perhaps his mother - that’s what moms do - until his death. It doesn’t change my opinion that his death was used as a cudgel by the racists, Marxists, that want to exploit anything they can to divide us. By all accounts he was a thug that should have spent time in prison. Nonetheless, his actions leading up to his arrest didn’t rise to the level of a death penalty. I find it hard to believe that Mr. Floyd’s family will do any good with the millions they collected in the civil suit. I hope I’m wrong. Also, keep in mind the Eggshell Skull Rule. If you hit someone, and they die—even if you didn't know they had an eggshell skull—you can be held responsible. Police, in particular, have a duty of care.
There is not a single light rail system in the U.S. that was not driven by the desire to fund unions in return for money and votes to politicians. Everyone of them were intentionally outrageously expensive exactly because that allows them to hide/launder more and more money. There isn't a light rail system in the country that could possibly support itself, they all require massive subsidies and that is exactly because they weren't necessary in the first place and the people don't want to use them. It was always the wrong thing to do. WORSE; the politicians then make it more and more difficult to get to areas supported by the light rail so that they can both justify the light rail and force more light rail. Where I live they modified all the downtown streets near light rail by reducing from two lanes to one lane to create traffic congestion thus, in their mind, justifying light rail.
The latest theory is that the big guy is trying to put the U.S. into a war because historically voters don't vote out a war time president in order to maintain continuity. Imagine that! The Democrat party is even more corrupt and anti-American than we thought. They are eager to kill your sons and daughters to retain power. Who would have thought!
'Response to Hamas horror shows the feminist movement has lost its moral compass'
It didn't have much of a moral compass to begin with. Feminists have been mum on the Hamas thing because they only condemn violence against women when the perpetrators are White. A Nobel literature prize for DeLillo?
Makes about as much sense as a peace prize for Obama, or an economics prize for Krugman. Which is to say, none at all. Ergo, Don should pack his bags for Stockholm. What a farce. Far too many of the Nobel awards have been a farce. However, given I have no idea who Don DeLillo is but actually did read Pearl Buck's award-winning novel and found it engrossing, I'm rather skeptical about the whole award process. If you ask me, J K Rowling seriously deserves the Nobel for producing books that actually had kids wanting to read.
"When the Hamas men stormed the border, they removed any pretense about the issue at stake. Not a state alongside Israel. Not even the existence of Israel. But the existence of Israelis..."
"We're witnessing the end of any kind of viable Palestinian statehood movement. The fiction that slaughtering children is some kind of legitimate 'resistance' is insane. No one, at least in my lifetime, will want to give independence to a gang of medieval horror movie villains." - Jonathan Kay (Canadian journalist) JJM: "When the Hamas men stormed the border, they removed any pretense about the issue at stake."
Hamas cannot be rehabilitated. They must be brought to justice (killed). However, Israel must be careful not to hold the Palestinian people as a whole responsible for the actions of a few, even if many Palestinians approved of the terrorist attacks. To do so would be contrary to democratic values and would be counterproductive to finally ending the hostilities. JJM: "We're witnessing the end of any kind of viable Palestinian statehood movement." That doesn't necessarily follow. Regardless of what happens in the short run, in twenty years there will be Palestinians living in the region and Jews living in the region. Israel cannot annex Gaza and the West Bank without either undermining the Jewish majority in Israel or by refusing the Palestinians a democratic voice. The only viable alternative is two states. Another Nail In the Global Warming Coffin
QUOTE: Statistics Norway, the government agency that produces official statistics for that country, released a report last month titled “To what extent are temperature levels changing due to greenhouse gas emissions?” The report concludes: [T]he results imply that the effect of man-made CO2 emissions does not appear to be sufficiently strong to cause systematic changes in the pattern of the temperature fluctuations. In other words, our analysis indicates that with the current level of knowledge, it seems impossible to determine how much of the temperature increase is due to emissions of CO2. . . . The Norwegians’ defection is important because climate alarmism can survive only if it is deemed an official “consensus,” so that people who point out inconsistent facts can be censored. https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/10/another-nail-in-the-global-warming-coffin.php feeblemind: Another Nail In the Global Warming Coffin
The paper is a preprint and has not yet been peer reviewed. Nor does it offer a “real analysis.” The paper doesn’t even attempt to account for greenhouse gases or combine those effects with other drivers of climate. The paper also cites approvingly several claims that have already been shown to be in error, while discounting or ignoring the findings of scientists far outside their own field of study. Essentially, what the paper does is look at the curve and say that it could be natural because natural changes can cause large fluctuations. While true, that doesn’t mean that the current warming isn’t due to greenhouse gases. There is NO correlation between CO2 and temperature. The attempt to create such a correlation is for the purpose of political power and control and, as always, corporate and political grifting at the taxpayer trough.

QUOTE: Tyson has agreed to invest in Protix, a company that turns insects into “protein” for human and animal consumption. . . . Why would they buy into a bug food company?” I just looked up Tyson’s Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) score, and I’m guessing Klaus Scwaub and his World Economic Forum (WEF) myrmidons are not pleased. Tyson Foods is a bit naughty by the WEF’s standards. They scored a -30.4% in “negative impact.” Perhaps, and this is just a hunch, Tyson is buying into a bug slop food company to improve its ESG score so that it can receive investment cheddar from firms like Blackrock, State Street, and Vanguard, which are driving the “woke” ESG bull feculence (which ironically seems to be a leading cause of inclement weather, or so the cloud huggers believe). One thing is certain, the WEF miscreants are planning on cutting meat out of our diets. https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/kevindowneyjr/2023/10/19/eat-ze-bugs-meat-giant-tyson-invests-in-insect-food-for-people-n1736275 Arthur John Priest: The Unsinkable Stoker
If there was anyone on board the Titanic that truly deserved the title “unsinkable” it was a coal stoker named Arthur John Priest, who survived no fewer than four ship sinking, including that of the Titanic and its sister ship Britannic, as well as living through two ship collisions. https://www.amusingplanet.com/2023/10/arthur-john-priest-unsinkable-stoker.html First, let me say I am always grateful for Stuart's good mind and fine writing skills!
I also appreciate the information about high-speed rail. A long long time ago (1973-1980) I was familiar with the dream of high-speed rail. The dream was to revamp the already existing AMTRAK passenger train line between Pasadena CA and Chicago IL, and then to someday have a line between LA and San Francisco. However, times have changed and we are now all too familiar with the growing number of whackos in California who enjoy the thrill of starting forest fires. Shouldn't we now recognize the "golden opportunity" that high-speed rail offers to these same whackos? Why do we think that they would not seek to wreak their havoc on a high-speed train? Whoopeee that would be so cool! Right? Second issue: Will these new trains offer the possibility of quiet, clean comfort for those able and willing to pay a little more? The Europeans offer a more expensive car and class of service--would American unions allow Americans to do the same, or would these trains just become another opportunity for the innocent to be robbed, beat up, and offered a seating arrangement on urine-soaked chairs? If that is the golden communist design--don't bother--people will stay in their cars. High speed rail is a construct of the white male patriarchy and personal mobility is always on the chopping block for statist utopian control freaks.
We are one more law or regulation away from the glorious workers utopia. You'll have to travel abroad to ride on the high speed rail. John Dewey is why Johnny and Joan can't read but they have navel gazing and muh genitals mastered as they prattle on about how terribly oppressed they are in an endless 1964 LARP that never grows stale to them. Regarding the Titanic, there is a theory that several billionaires of that time who opposed the creation of the federal reserve were onboard. This is a sincere question. What is it about Dewey's philosophy and work that you think was detrimental to the previous education strategy? How did it influence future generations of teachers? These details are important!
High speed rail will, undoubtedly, be run by a government bureaucracy. That guarantees that it will be overpriced, have mediocre service, and will likely be well supplied with a criminal element.
Think government health care or government education.

CrackEmcee makes multiple comments, mainly to the effect that the Americans who support Israel are SO ignorant about the Israel-Arab conflict. Yet what he posts indicates that he knows very little about the Israeli-Arab conflict himself. Reminds of of Bernie Sanders, who for decades proclaimed that the Americans who didn't like Latin American lefties like Fidel etc. were SO ignorant about Latin America. Yet in multiple comments about Latin America, Bernie showed himself to be not only ignorant about Latin America, but pretentious for claiming knowledge about Latin America that he didn't possess. |
