We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

From Marcella's market

We stopped by the marketplace in Venice last week. Marcella Hazan frequently wrote about her daily morning visits to this only fish, vegetable, fruit, and meat market in town.


I'll have more Veneto pics. 


Yes, all squash blossoms are edible and delicious fried.

We've had breaded and fried squash blossoms and they are quite tasty. Hard to find any for sale if you don't grow them.

Venice was beautiful but it is so touristy today. I imagine you can still find the beauty but I guess I'm old fashioned and don't like change, especially change for the worse.

It's true of Paris too. I remember a Paris where everyone spoke French. Today there are half a dozen North African and Arab dialects spoken there and you feel the need to watch everyone out of the corner of your eye. They have military fully armed and in uniform strolling the popular venues constantly looking out for terrorists. So different...

We live in the Philippines and have traveled widely through south east islands.
Banana flowers and palm tree centers are known as millioners cabbage due to the loss of such a future harvest.
Just had some for the last two days with ham hocks
