Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Roman swords ‘in almost mint condition’ discovered after 1,900 years in Dead Sea cave
QUOTE: Four remarkably preserved Roman swords “in almost mint condition” — with their wooden and leather hilts and steel blades still intact after 1,900 years — have been discovered inside a remote cave near the Dead Sea. The trove of ancient artifacts – four swords and the head of a javelin known as a “pilum” — was found by Israeli archaeologists during an excavation in an area known as a hideout for Jewish rebels against the Romans in the 130s, leading researchers to believe that the weapons were booty captured by the insurgents. The shape of three of the blades recalls Roman “spatha” swords, and the fourth has a ring-and-pommel design consistent with the period, the Israel Antiquities Authority said. A bronze coin from the time of the Bar Kokhba rebellion of 132-135 AD, which challenged the Roman Empire’s rule of Judea, was found at the entrance to the cave concealing the weapons for nearly two millennia. https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:TOMJ7_eYmHIJ:https://nypost.com/2023/09/06/roman-swords-discovered-after-1900-years-in-dead-sea-cave/&cd=9&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us This is what we are fighting https://theferalirishman.blogspot.com/2023/09/obama-being-gay-is-least-of-it.html#more The Democrats are commies.
“Slide-Rule Strategy” — One Wartime Researcher Calculated the Impact of a Single B-24 Bomber on the Allied Effort. His Findings Are Surprising

His Findings Are Surprising Great example of the power of estimation based on a simple model. (It's models — all the way down!) The model can be improved by including the reduction in u-boats over time and how fast they can be replaced. Also, each additional B-24 generally has less effect. I read both the theater article, and the "tragic hetero" article. I can sum up both. Bitter losers are bitter, and want to take it out on all who are not bitter losers. They will shove their bitterness in your face until you say, "Oh, poor baby" and acquiesce to their bitter demands. They will kill off the arts. They will kill off education. Given the chance they will kill off everyone who is not a bitter loser. Unfortunately, they being given the chance.
JWM re New Mexico Governor Declares Emergency, 'Suspends' Gun Rights in Shocking Move
Wow! That's a brazen power grab. We knew the Left was going to try this sooner or later. What's the penalty for defying the decree? Perhaps large scale civil disobedience is called for? I wonder what the courts and the voters will think, or even local law enforcement for that matter? Then again perhaps it doesn't matter if the courts are corrupt and the vote is rigged. If this edict succeeds in New Mexico, look for Governors in blue states to issue their own "emergency" gun bans. The decree explicitly gives enforcement power exclusively to state police. Local LEOs don't have to be involved. Although one could see a mayor wanting to be a dictator as well, so stay tuned.
DA's going "Oh, HELL no. Ain't gonna touch this, no way, no how."
She's badly overstepped whatever power she had on this. QUOTE: The Earth Has No Average Temperature With a relatively homogeneous substance, such as the atmosphere, average temperature is a reasonable proxy for heat energy. If you prefer to measure the heat content of the atmosphere, it is increasing consistent with the average temperature. The ocean heat content is also increasing. However, average temperature has wide error margins due to incomplete and inconsistent coverage. However, the temperature anomaly has a much narrower error margin. That's why climate scientists generally work with temperature anomalies, not absolute temperatures. QUOTE: How can the kinetic energy of the air molecules in my room affect the kinetic energy of the air molecules in a room halfway around the world? The answer is that it can't! Actually, it can and it does. The atmosphere mixes continuously. Could you get the atmosphere to speed up that mixing a little? We could use a whiff of that cold polar air down here in Texas right now.

Schuckmann et al., Heat stored in the Earth system 1960–2020: where does the energy go?, Earth System Science Data 2023: "Here we show that the Earth system has continued to accumulate heat, with 381±61 ZJ accumulated from 1971 to 2020. This is equivalent to a heating rate (i.e., the EEI) of 0.48±0.1 W m^−2. The majority, about 89 %, of this heat is stored in the ocean, followed by about 6 % on land, 1 % in the atmosphere, and about 4 % available for melting the cryosphere." They also pretend that there are 'average' cloud covers as well.

Had a SIL who was/is a raging feminist for the past 50 years! She recently moved to Albuquerque declaring that "is a state for forward-thinking women like myself". "The governor is a feminist. She is getting married this year--do you know who will be officiating at her wedding?" "Kamala Harris--the VICE PRESIDENT! Isn't that wonderful"
Of course, SIL who has been a 4th grade teacher for 50 years never stopped to ask which state in the union is at the bottom of the list for a quality public school education ! Tried logging into Maggie's Farm 6 or 8 times throughout the day yesterday and only got a query failure or unable to connect message every time. Glad to see you're back. Or I'm back, whichever.

Maintaining this forum is a great labor, much less the work required to post the daily links for discussion. Kudos. A few days ago no one had heard of Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. Why would the least known governor in the U.S. suddenly declare a health emergency and decide it trumps the constitution? This is no mere whim of a stupid unknown governor this is a conspiracy at the highest level. This is a test run of communism AND conditioning Americans to more tyranny to come. Ms Grisham knows her declaration is unconstitutional but that's the point. To do this right in your face and dare you to try to enjoy your constitutional rights. And why not, these Nazi bastards never face any repercussions for their illegal actions. And THAT is the reason they will continue to do it.
Makes me think that she'll be doing a double-bill with Kamala Harris in 2028.
