We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Has Fat Acceptance Gone Too Far?

It wasn't that many years ago that fat shaming was de rigueur among the politically correct set. They were even threatening to deny them healthcare for their gluttonous ways.

All of a sudden that went down the memory hole and fat acceptance became chic. If there was a a decree announcing the change, I missed it.

It's hard to keep up with the whims of the woke.

There should already be "substantial constitutional questions" about the blatant misuse of the courts to pursue a political opponent that they don't like. If the federal courts or the supremes do not intervene this will devolve into something that no one wants to happen.

A judge can't define a woman and as we found out, neither can a SCOTUS judge. Ban law schools and appoint farmers to the courts. At least they can recognize two of the two sexes.

In this case, the judge actually ruled that the national sorority that made the rule in question was a private organization and the court had no authority to make them rewrite their rules. I don't have a problem with that. The women who are up in arms can form their own sorority.

The headlines made it sound like the national charter foisted him upon the girls, but evidently their chapter voted him in. There was supposedly pressure from that national office, but it was left up to them. Some of the girls said they were pressured and that it was supposed to be a secret-ballot, but wasn’t. Social pressure, self-inflicted wound.

If they don’t like it, maybe they can blackball him like fraternities do.

During the Maui fire they refused to release water to the hydrants to fight the fire. The reason isn't complicated. It is danced around and draped with big words and phrases but the reason they wouldn't release the water was simple. They were concerned that it might save a home that didn't belong to a native Hawaiian. That is a fact. Think about that level of racism heading Hawaii's government. This concept is endemic in Hawaii. Everything the native population does and says reinforces it. I don't think that is what stopped them from sounding the sirens, I think that was simply incompetence. But pure racism is what kept them from opening up the water spigot.

I’ve never been to Hawaii, but one of my buddies was stationed there and he said the islanders hate mainlanders, and aren’t shy about it.

What was it Johnny Depp said about actors shooting presidents? He may have had a point, he was just slightly ahead of his time. And there's a whole buttload of politicians and bureaucrats we could stand to be rid of.
