Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

It's becoming pretty obvious that the parks are suffering from a lack of capital investment, and that this is likely being caused as the company "eats its seed corn" to cover the losses from their recent string of movie flops. The most obvious example of this is at Epcot. After the opening of the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge expansion at Hollywood Studios, there was an announcement that the already neglected front half of Epcot, the then Futureworld, would be getting a major retheming and there would be an additional major new attraction at the Great Britain Pavilion in World Showcase. It later came out that this would consist of a new Guardians of the Galaxy themed Rollercoaster, a Moana-based interactive water experience, a remodeling of the former Wonders of Life to the vaguely defined "Play Pavilion", a major retheme of the Spaceship Earth attraction (the big ball) and a Mary Poppins ride based on the Jolly Holiday portion of the ride. Then Covid hit, and understandably construction on some of these was halted or delayed. As of now, the Guardians coaster is running, and likely the best attraction on the grounds. However, 8 years down the line from the original "teaser" announcements, the front half of the park still has construction barriers up, the Moana attraction is scheduled for opening around the end of this year, and the other announced attractions have been cancelled. How much will be restored in response to the third Universal park is also in the air, as there seems to be a lack of commitment to the existing facilities, concentrating on hotel space rather than entertainment. (an aside, where Universal is going to find the employees to run that third park is the biggest mystery in Orlando right now, given the cities current shortage of low-cost housing) There are also the wildly unpopular "Lightning Lane" options that give privileged access to attractions at an additional cost over the admission prices, and an admission structure that makes a single day trip almost prohibitively expensive. Yeah, they've been coasting for a long time now - and I think a lot of it is their bad financial decisions based on 'how cool is this?' as opposed to 'how many people will want to do this?'
'Galactic Starcruiser' was an interesting experiment - but financially unsustainable. Their experiments with 'wokeness' - 'Lightyear' and 'Strange World' weren't well received. The Snow White live action mess - wow. It's like some of their marketers think that notoriety will get people into the theaters, just to see the controversial parts. They've decided to reframe Splash Mountain to Tiana's Bayou Adventure. That's not a problem - but the announced reason ("To get rid of the racism") was, IMO, kinda ridiculous. Yes, you can refresh a ride's theming. You don't have to make it about racism - or a reaction to it. Disney's lost the plot - they've got to entertain people, not preach or offend. They used to keep the parks up better, they used to innovate - now it's like they're half-heartedly trying to keep up with Universal. We see how Universal's building a new theme park on an expedited schedule, but Disney's taken how long to get the Moana water adventure going? We won't get into the political semi-religious infighting that's going on. That's... counterproductive. Well - they used to be the premier entertainment locus in Orlando. I think that's coming to an end... If you guys are interested in what Disney is up to, WDWpro on youtube has a lot of interesting videos on the topic.
https://www.youtube.com/@WDW_Pro QUOTE: The Flaw in Trump’s Georgia Indictment . . . And again, if you don’t have two or more people agreeing on an objective that is a crime, you don’t have a conspiracy. If a mob wants to get rich (a legal objective), but agree to use illegal means to achieve that objective, it constitutes a criminal conspiracy. That simply is not true. If your hypothetical group of people decide to get rich as a legal objective, then decide they are going to do it by leasing land and growing soybeans, there is no conspiracy. In order to support the conspiracy charge, you need to prove the underlying fraud charge. IN order to prove the underlying fraud, you need to prove that not only was there no fraud in the Georgia election, but that Trump had no reason to believe there was. The evidence that the people were telling him that there were irregularities is therefore not damning but exonerating.
Another guy named Dan: If your hypothetical group of people decide to get rich as a legal objective, then decide they are going to do it by leasing land and growing soybeans, there is no conspiracy.
That's right! You got it now! Another guy named Dan: In order to support the conspiracy charge, you need to prove the underlying fraud charge. IN order to prove the underlying fraud, you need to prove that not only was there no fraud in the Georgia election, but that Trump had no reason to believe there was. That's a different argument than McCarthy, who argued that there cannot be a conspiracy if the underlying objective is otherwise legal. As pointed out, even if the underlying objective is legal, an agreement to use illegal means to achieve is constitute a criminal conspiracy. Your argument is that because Trump thought he won, he is justified in using illegal means to take what is rightfully his. That, of course, is legally preposterous. Consider three people who run a business who believe that the bank has kept $211.43 from them. They go to court and lose. They keep filing petitions, but the court laughs them out of court and threatens sanctions for frivolous filings. So, the owners decide to rob the bank. They demand exactly $211.43 at gunpoint, no more and no less than what they believed they were owed. Even though trying to get their money back was legal, the conspiracy to rob the bank was not. This is true even if afterwards evidence is found that the bank really did steal their money and covered it up. Z: Your argument is that because Trump thought he won, he is justified in using illegal means to take what is rightfully his. That, of course, is legally preposterous.
OJ Simpson found this out the hard way. Trump did not do anything illegal at all. Everyone of these cases are depending on biased districts/counties where he could be convicted of anything he is charged with by juries who don't like him. There is no crime. Period. Mike drop!

JustMe: The Most Ridiculous Lawfare Narrative Pushed by Special Counsel Jack Smith Portends the Weakness of the Mar-a-Lago Case . . . As the story is pushed by ABC News, again based on leaks from Special Counsel Jack Smith, supposedly former President Trump’s Chief of Staff has told prosecutors that he does not remember any effort by President Trump about a standing objective to declassify documents.
What ABC News reported is that Meadows didn't know of Trump declassifying broad sets of classified materials, not that he was unaware that Trump had declassified specific materials. Indeed, that Trump signed declassification orders means he knew how declassification worked. And it's not just by thinking about it. As for the Mar-a-Lago documents, it's insane to think that anything Trump took with him to Mar-a-Lago would be automatically declassified. The nuclear codes follow the president wherever he goes. Are those now subject to a Freedom of Information Request for public dissemination? That's just silly.

Nuke codes are not static. I would be surprised if they aren't changed on at least a monthly basis. Even a simple "confidential" SOI is changed frequently.
Like passwords, they are changed frequently for security reasons. Nuke codes would definitely be changed at the end of a presidency and likely anytime someone in the chain of command is replaced.

It's time to nationalize everything, comrade.
We're in this together, don't be a shirker or deplorable kulak untermenschen, it's for the community. Is this just in time for the return of the COV-LARP? GA indictment? How about Stacey Abrams and when will Al Gore and Hillary be indicted? Comrade Kemp got a pat on the head from the FEW for not securing elections and there are many photos of him online with CCP comrades, Yenan Way been very good to some. I think cilantro tastes like soapy stinkbug because it tastes like soapy stinkbug. 90% of the population just can't detect it. Some restaurants should probably have a few soap-free offerings instead of polluting the entire menu.
I'm with you, I can't stand the taste of cilantro or fennel. I also think parsley and cumin taste pretty bad and bitter too. Is that taste or the genes?
That was an interesting piece about cilantro, and it explains why my friend can't eat anything that has cilantro in it. I can't taste it at all, on the other hand.
For the cilantro-averse: consider anything resembling a Tex-Mex restaurant in Texas to be a cilantro free-fire zone. And be sure to say "no thanks" should anyone suggest that Tex-Mex condiment pico de gallo.
Can we keep climate science separate from misinformation... NO!
The climate science, like the Covid is the excuse needed to transfer money, power, and control into ever fewer but definitely greedier hands of the ruling elites. No big deal if you carbonize Maui children or need to snuff VAXX children in the name of SCIENCE. Just keep the emergency moving forward for the benefit of the globalist agenda. AND it keeps population under that magic 8 billion red line. It's not advocacy journalism per se that's the problem - the hacks of the press have always worked that way.
It's the lack of any spread of perspective that annoys: the same journalistic cabal promoting the same monolithic agenda in the same predictable way all the time. A lot of the shit storm that is coming is predictable and in a casual conversation I'm not sure anyone would be surprised. But I see something coming, along with the rest of the shit storm, that I guessing will surprise most people. Surprise them in that they would never believe that our own politicians and billionaires would plan something so nefarious. The basis for it is that they need control and Americans, traditional Americans are not wanting to be controlled, people like the MAGA voters. So what is this nefarious plan to destroy America? WW III with a twist. Not a full blown full nuclear WW III because that wouldn't leave much for the elite to rule over. imagine a mega Vietnam war level of fighting where millions of America's best and brightest young men die. And there it is. They intend to kill off our young men. Not the welfare, homeless, illegal and legal immigrants, the uneducated, etc. They want to kill off the future MAGA voters, the future Tea Party types. And the young women left behind will have to marry the rabble that was unsuitable to send to war and that will break the backbone of the middle class. After that Socialism/communism will be implemented because there won't be enough votes to stop it. The "Rich men north of Richmond" will run the country and any dissenters left will be charged with thought crimes and sent off to the gulags. WW III is coming America: don't send your sons to war. Make them draft the rabble and Riff raff. Don't send your boys to another war America!
It's going to be along the lines of what England did to the Irish with the Democrats emulating the English and the free white middle class being treated as the Irish were. Enlist them in their foreign wars killing off the young men while destroying jobs in Ireland and starving the Irish into poverty. Those who rebel would be killed or imprisoned. Craig Deleeuw Robertson was killed by the FBI for posting threatening language online. He didn't have to be killed they could have easily taken him into custody but they needed to make an example of him. The J6 prisoners are jailed and tortured for protesting the great election steal of 2020 not because most of them did anything wrong but they needed to make an example of them. So the young men of the middle class Americans will go off to die on foreign shores fighting foreign wars and the Democrats will grind down the middle class families back at home until the middle class is destroyed. Resist and the FBI SWAT team will break down your door at 5 AM and think the cell phone in your hand is a gun and will execute you in front of your family.
Anon: Craig Deleeuw Robertson was killed by the FBI for posting threatening language online.
You know this how? While U.S. police often resort to violence when other means may be available, Robertson had posted, "Hey FBI, you still monitoring my social media? Checking so I can be sure to have a loaded gun handy in case you drop by again". He then reportedly pulled a gun on the agents attempting to arrest him. Anon: The J6 prisoners are jailed and tortured for protesting the great election steal of 2020 not because most of them did anything wrong but they needed to make an example of them. J6 suspects were given due process, including the right to pre-trial release. Jails aren't fun, but they were kept in conditions typical for U.S. jails. "J6 suspects were given due process"

You provided one example who was provided a bail hearing and released on personal recognizance bond. That IS due process. JustMe: Expect more early morning SWAT raids designed to assassinate non-compliers. The evidence is that Robertson pulled a gun on federal agents sent to arrest him, which is consistent with his public statements. Do you have evidence to the contrary?

Regarding zoning - technically, the city of Houston, Texas does not have zoning, but it does have some ordinances that restrict the way property can be used.
