We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"He is an immature jerk" Well of course I know what you mean but I'm just not sure I agree. He is over confident, unforgiving of fools and has no filter and seems to really enjoy being right and throwing it in the face of those who disagree. Otherwise I see him as a typical New Yorker (or many on the East Coast who tell it like they see it speak loudly. I grew up with that and I find it refreshing when I hear it. Not just the men either East Coast women will tell you what they think, no shrinking violets. Trump knows how to manage a big company or a big project and he has the energy to do whatever it takes to succeed.

If you read the many linked to articles from Finacial Crises Brewing, you’ll see a common denominator: inflation. Besides all the pie in the sky energy numbers they through around, all these companies have one thing in common: government assistance. Projects are stalled out because of the same bill that jump started them. The Inflation Reduction Act, hasn’t done what it was promised to do. Inflation is on the rise. Well, some of us could see this coming. More government, is rarely the answer to any question.

Catholic trade school forges ahead despite obstacles ... We need more trade schools and fewer sociology degrees. A craft along with some theology will at least promote an honest trained craftsman rather than trained marxists.

Heat pumps don't work in cold weather .... There are real costs, subsidized costs, and fake costs. The one that counts is the real cost. The others just add to the national debt.

That film is something. The train was liberated by the GI's / Tankers from the US Army, and the prisoners were from Bergen-Belson. Coincidentally, Bergen-Belson (about 100 miles away) had been liberated by the US a couple of days prior to this film.

Not sure why the Post thought it necessary to declare that this was going to be a heavy strike against 'Holocaust Deniers', though. What - both of them? Give me a break. Nobody takes kooks like that seriously, and they should be ashamed of lending them the credibility associated with a mention.

"Heat pumps don't work in cold weather" A heat pump takes thermal energy from the air and transfers it into the house. Cold winter air doesn't have much thermal energy so the heat pump doesn't work well. Years ago, I spent the winter in Minneapolis and it got to 40 below zero downtown. If you had a heat pump you were just SOL.

Typically a heat pump style HVAC system installed at higher latitudes will have one or two electrical heating elements inline with the air flow to function at lower temperatures. The conversion between these two heating sources should be seamless and unnoticeable to the homeowner. If your HVAC system doesn't work in cold weather then you may have a simple repair required. But beware that an unscrupulous technician will try to sell you the entire system.
