Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: New York's Housing follies.
This is just more proof that the more free stuff/welfare you provide the more free stuff junkies and welfare queens you get. Almost all of our current welfare system is a openly dishonest program to buy votes. The only way we can fix this and prevent it from bringing us all into bankruptcy is to end it. End it 100%, not a penny, not a slice of bread, nothing from the federal government. No more transfers of money from working taxpayers to loafing useless eaters. QUOTE: What is the audience for a woke, live-action “Snow White”? . . . “Snow White” is going to bomb, like pretty much everything Disney produces these days. Disney leads the global box office with over $3 billion so far in 2023. They also led 2022 with nearly $5 billion.
Dr. Strange, $952 million Black Panther: Wakanda, $853 million Thor: Love and Thunder, $760 million 2023 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, $838 million The Little Mermaid, $547 million Ant-Man and the Wasp, $464 million QUOTE: The new version is live action, not a cartoon. Live action not just allows for, but requires, greater realism. But that is a terrible idea: there is nothing whatever about “Snow White” that is, or should be, realistic. Next thing you know, they'll be making a live action Hobbit movie, or a giant claymation ape movie. ("Snow White" was originally a German fairy tale, Schneeweißchen, not a cartoon.) QUOTE: So now Snow White is Hispanic. . . Folks, this is a fairy tale. Get a grip! Hahaha! Or a live action Beauty and the Beast. Or The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. They could never turn that book into a live-action movie!
Usually, theaters retain around 50% of the profits collected during any film's theatrical run, meaning Disney received around $235 million dollars for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This means that, technically, the Phase 5 film did make a profit, though a profit of only around $30 million is below initial expectations - especially when further marketing and promotional costs are considered.

Have no idea what you are talking about. Don: Usually, theaters retain around 50% of the profits collected during any film's theatrical run, meaning Disney received around $235 million dollars for Ant-Man Sure. And the new "Avatar" film made over two billion dollars. That's showbiz. An interesting aside: When "Forrest Gump" blew up the box office, the creator was paid a pittance because, even though the film was phenomenally successful, the studio claimed they didn't make any money. Grossed probably, made as in net profit, no. Disney is about the last place I want to take my grandkids.
Don: Grossed probably, made as in net profit, no.
Total Disney revenue for 2022 was $83 billion. Disney’s gross profit for the twelve months ending March 31, 2023 was $28 billion, with $4 billion in net income, a 50% increase in net income year-over-year. Stock price $197.16 03/08/2021

Disney cues up its next woke stinker as stock price plummets. "People are making these jokes about ours being the PC Snow White ... yeah, it is -because it needed that ... More Gramsci/Marcuse drivel sold as "entertainment." Disney stockholders need to sue the Board and the CEO for intentionally wrecking the brand.

Don: Stock price $86.10 Today
But much higher than it was a decade ago. Disney has certainly made a few missteps, if that is your point. However, there are industry-wide problems with the move to streaming, while the pandemic dealt a significant blow to the entertainment industry. The argument was that "Snow White" was going to bomb. It certainly might, but that depends much more on the art of storytelling and capturing the cultural moment than it does on whether there are seven dwarves living in a cave or seven magical friends living in a cottage. This is similar to the racist backlash against a Black person playing the little mermaid. Turns out, Halle Bailey was the best part of the movie. But the storytelling wasn't particularly strong, so it made only half a billion dollars. Don: Not only am I not buying but a whole lot of somebodies are not buying it. Sure, but a whole lot of somebodies are definitely buying Disney product. "Disney has certainly made a few missteps,"

Z: As for "Snow White," its success will depend, as always, on the quality of the story.
As an example, Barbie is currently smashing the box office, even though it is unabashedly feminist and includes a highly diverse cast of Barbies and Kens. (But, there's only one Alan!) It's all about story and execution. Jan 6th was not an insurrection. It was a constitutionally protected political demonstration. Those who entered the capitol did not trespass, they entered without freely as part of a political demonstration against a stolen election. Those people we saw destroying property wore "black block" they were Antifa and BLM instigators not Trump supporters. Those who tried to push the crowd to break the law were FBI and DC police infiltrators put there to create a false flag. The Democrats hid exculpatory evidence created kangaroo trials, used corrupt DC judges and anti-Democracy prosecutors to put innocent people in jail. What your government did in response to Jan 6 is the most anti-democratic, anti-American and anti-constitutional act in our entire history. The left is destroying our country and trashing the constitution. If this politically motivated travesty is not corrected it will bring us down. Impeach the DC judges and indict the prosecutors and those behind them who broke our laws and denied these good people their constitutional rights.
Anon: Those who entered the capitol did not trespass
Of course they trespassed. The broken windows and injured police are evidence of that. Anon: Those people we saw destroying property wore "black block" they were Antifa and BLM instigators not Trump supporters. Be happy to review the evidence for that assertion. Anon: Those who tried to push the crowd to break the law were FBI and DC police infiltrators put there to create a false flag. Many people have already been convicted of violent actions on that day. Even a cursory review of the evidence shows that they were Trump supporters. Gee whiz. Many of them took selfies and posted the images to social media of them breaking the law. GeeWhiz!
QUOTE: "The seemingly provocative actions by law enforcement, in those moments, appear to have set off the crowd, who in turn shouted expletives and grew more aggressive in reaction to the flash bangs, tear gas, and beatings," the National File's Andrew White noted in an Aug. 2 report. "This, combined with what appears to be undercover federal actors, posing as Trump supporters, instigating and participating in violence, could possibly explain why the protest crowd became increasingly violent as the day went on." https://trib247.com/articles/report-capitol-police-incited-jan-6-crowd-by-firing-flash-bangs-tear-gas There was a recent movie about a black mathematician who helped NASA launch successful missions. I don't know how much is true or was faked to fulfill an agenda and it doesn't really matter. Should they have cast a redhead with white, white skin in that part?
SillyMe: movie about a black mathematician who helped NASA launch successful missions.
Are you thinking of Hidden Figures? SillyMe: Should they have cast a redhead with white, white skin in that part? As racism against Blacks was an important part of the story, probably not. Oops. "I didn't feel the segregation at NASA, because everybody there was doing research," says the real Katherine G. Johnson. "You had a mission and you worked on it, and it was important to you to do your job...and play bridge at lunch. I didn't feel any segregation. I knew it was there, but I didn't feel it." Even though much of the racism coming from Katherine's coworkers in the movie seems to be largely made up (in real life she claimed to be treated as a peer).
But…but…that doesn’t move the Narrative, man. You gotta be down with the struggle. By any means necessary.

Lord Heathen: "I didn't feel the segregation at NASA, because everybody there was doing research," says the real Katherine G. Johnson.
It's Hollywood and real life rarely makes for a coherent drama, However, the answer is right there in the quote—the facility was segregated. That Johnson had the fortitude to ignore the segregation is a testament to her character, but that doesn't mean it was any less real. Certainly, you aren't arguing that they never experienced racism? They worked in segregated rooms. There was a sign in the cafeteria saying "Colored computers," referring to the Black mathematicians. The bathrooms were segregated; and while Johnson ignored the law, Jackson had trouble finding a "colored bathroom." Also, Johnson's hometown didn't offer secondary education for Blacks in the segregated system, so her family had to move. Jackson had to petition to be allowed to attend engineering classes due to segregation. (It was granted.) B. Hammer: But…but…that doesn’t move the Narrative, man. But...but...the answer is right there in the quote—the facility was segregated. There's that unelected experts society that the "elites" love so much.

QUOTE: The Democrats and Republicans are being pulled apart by the new Woke conspiracy attractors reshaping the scene. The old axis is being disrupted by a second dimension perpendicular to it. It’s interesting to watch the political parties try to cope. On the GOP side, it produced a plethora of outsider candidates. On the Dem side, it created a Brezhnev-like inbred stagnation. This is why RFK is shaking up the Dem primaries by running as a conspirator and why the GOP establishment candidates are languishing. The parties can only grow in forbidden directions, and the pressure to transform is plunging them into crisis. . . . On both sides, but for different reasons, 2024 has taken on the aspect of the Last Election. A WSJ op-ed writes: The heightened feelings on both sides are reflected in a poll that found that about 80% of Republicans believe that the Democratic agenda, “if not stopped, will destroy America as we know it.” About the same share of Democrats had the same fear of the Republican agenda, saying it would destroy the country, an NBC News survey found last fall. https://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2023/07/17/the-last-election-n1711156 re What is the audience for a woke, live-action “Snow White”?
