We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Yes, Happy 4th of July.
Proud and happy to be in the USA. I worked all over the world and there is no better sight than landing at the US airport port of entry and seeing Old Glory waving in the wind.
Ditto that, rocdoctom, can't express the feeling one gets after pulling hitches in some nice, some not-so-nice places overseas. There's a joy in returning to home and homeland, and an appreciation.
My granddaughter just took her first steps today, how apropos for Independence Day!
Happy Fourth everybody, be patriotic, be thankful.
A friend gave me a bunch of Chris LeDoux songs many years ago. Thinking about it, it was probably a year or two before he died. It took awhile for me to warm up to the songs. I’ve always liked country music, not so much stuff in the 90’s and beyond.
I just read the Wikipedia page about him. I had no idea he passed. Sounds like he was a good man. I’ll have to visit his statue in Cheyenne next time I’m up there.
"To be governed by our consent"
is the greatest achievement in 1000 years!
More important than the automobile, the airplane, the computer, or the internet. Humanity took a giant leap forward, once this idea took hold. Most of the people of the world are not governed by their consent. One day hopefully all people will be, otherwise civilization may not last!
Happy 4th!
Every American should know what Independence Day stands for. Sadly many don't.
