Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Friday, June 30. 2023Americans don't want racial division
People, especially those with resources, often game college admissions for the most competitive and well-known names. That's how people tend to be. Despite the Supremes, very few colleges are highly-competitive. America has thousands of colleges, and most will give almost anybody a try. They need warm seats, and can be excellent for motivated young men and women. What is the history of the Racial Diversity ethic? The always thoughtful Peter Wood: Why the Supreme Court’s Harvard decision matters

Heard about a young man (Irish American, solid source) whose father was in the military at Guantanamo. He was born in Cuba; got into the university as an Hispanic ... Nixon set this up ... endless games, endless workarounds ...
I knew someone who was white and who was originally from Africa, and checked off "African-American" and got a scholarship. They actually weren't trying to game the system when they did that -- they naively thought that since they grew up in Africa, and moved to the United States, that they were "African-American."
I had two friends, each of whom had a teenager graduating from high school and applying to college. Both kids were top of their respective classes, had fantastic grades and great test scores. And great resumes. There was little difference in them on paper and as potential college applicants. One kid was the descendent of one of California's early Spanish settlers. The other kid was the child of immigrants from the Philippines. Both had Spanish last names. The first one checked "Hispanic" on all the boxes. I told the mother of the second kid to do that as well, (who'd really know otherwise?) but she didn't. But she did check off "Asian."
The first one got into every school to which they applied. The second got into their second tier choices, but none of the first tier choices. I thought it was so sad. I'm positive the second kid was penalized for checking off "Asian." I know what you mean about blended races all starting to look alike - I never would have guessed just by looking at her that Elizabeth Warren was a Cherokee Indian.
The pretendian is only a start. There is nearly an endless scam to identify as a minority when minorities get extra special consideration. The Gramsci marxists created the race and gender divisions to create divisions in society. Socialists went for it lock, stock, and barrel. It is all leverage to create division and division creates opportunity for the chameleon politicians.
re Americans don't want racial division
So what? There is money to be scammed and power to be acquired through racial division. Who cares what the little people think? Most people had forgot all about it until Barry came along.
Growing up as an Army brat there was no choice in housing regarding roommates on the base and somehow we all got along. Race hustlers have grown rich by stoking division and they don't unity or cohesion anyway. @ FM, reminds me of the German apparatchik saying what the people say is not a factor regarding assistance for the Ukraine. It was called the Ukraine until 1991. I live in a city that is still one of the last holdouts celebrated shared experiences, not racial division.
The history of the Racial Diversity ethic springs from a noble desire for fairness, but the implementation may lose sight of the individual. Embrace a merit-based approach and let's celebrate the human spirit and ambition. The only people in the Racial Diversity ethic that have a 'noble desire for fairness' are the useful idiots. The folks driving it are using it solely to gain power.

But some folks don't want just any old college education--the kind where you learn stuff or develop a skill--they want a name-brand, designer education, the kind that catches the eye on a resume and signifies "elite" status. How do I know? My crazy Uncle Sam helped me get a degree from Stanford, and after that, I could spout the most ridiculous nonsense, give utterly stupid advice, and otherwise rational people would take me seriously. I surprised I didn't become a super-villian. Or a politician. "a guy whose father was a Spanish aristocrat"
By legal definition, he is NOT Hispanic. "Hispanic" means an Indio or Mestizo born in Latin America. Spaniards and Portuguese and their descendants are NOT Hispanic. A couple of Portuguese firemen in Massachusetts were prosecuted for criminal fraud when they claimed to be Hispanic on a job application form. QUOTE: Americans don't want racial division "I MUST make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizens Councillor or the Ku Klux Klanner but the white moderate who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically feels that he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time; and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection." — Martin Luther King Jr., Letter From a Birmingham Jail QUOTE: Politics has made me more aware of race. So, politics pierced your privilege. They do not want racial division, they want right of association......
