Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

BlackRock's CEO Larry Fink is now saying the term ESG will no longer be used, it's being replaced by the term "conscientious capitalism". I'm not sure what the Chinese characters are for conscientious capitalism, but I'm sure Larry Fink knows. ESG now joins CRT and woman as a term nobody has ever heard of before and has no idea what it could possibly mean.
Same thing, Fink’s just re-branding like they had to do with global warming/climate change.
The Atlantic apparently hires 5 year-olds as writers who still want their mommy to take care of them. It has become an embarrassment.
I wouldn't trust the Blackrock CEO to mean what he is saying. Likely he just wants to take the attention off of the ESG stupidity because investors are becoming critical of it. The WHO and other "world organizations" like the UN need to be evicted and banned from US territory. They are antithetical to American liberty and freedom. Canada and the indigenous graves:
There is a lot of money and special treatment laws at stake. They use these claims, true or false, to force the lawmakers to give them special rights and huge amounts of money. The narrative is too valuable to allow stupid facts to get in the way. If these are burial grounds, they would be the only "permanent" ones employed by most Canadian indians. The west coast tribes used "sky burials" (saw photos of same many years ago), and otherwise rather suspect they buried the dead along the trail, so to speak. At any rate, there was not a fuss made over burial sit4es pre-Columbus and for many years after. Even today, where they are graveyards on native reserves, they were not well kept.
As it is, if these were indeed informal cemeteries, I would expect that they were used by the nearby community as well as the school. And we do know there were deaths at the schools and in the surrounding communities; TB was rife and the natives were particularly susceptible to its scourge. "Preventoriums" were set up in Canada at one time to take in native children showing early symptoms of TB with the hope that the best possible treatment of the time (this was before antibiotics) would allow them to overcome TB and survive. Watch out when they start shifting the language around. It doesn't mean they aren't still up to something, they're just switching the camouflage.
When the Affirmative Action era began, it was with the best of intentions. But weaning is hard for mammals, when the suckling is made easy. Like the Great Society, it's hard to abolish what has been a success, when its failures and problems start to overtake the benefits. It has done what is set out to. Though far from perfect, we are one of the most tolerant societies around, some say too tolerant. Certain factions within our modern world are clearly intolerant. But an advanced, technological society such as ours did not arrive here without merit as its primary currency, in a marketplace of openness. Time and time again, things that work replace things that do not, for whatever reason. Perhaps it's time to re-assert the primacy of merit. We are seeing the results of letting other, less merited concepts take precedence over our society, many of them intolerant. Forgo them. "Facebook said it would restrict all distribution of news in Canada."
Not quite. But that overly sensationalist link you gave is hardly a reliable account about what has just happened. It is true that the foolish C-18 bill was just passed, but our Federal government has now been effectively hoisted by its own petard. The idea was to make social media sites like Facebook pay to place links to Canadian news media stories. Not being the brightest bunch, our current government in Ottawa didn't quite anticipate the following: Government (to Facebook): "From now on, if you put links to Canadian news media items on your pages, you're going to have to pay for them." Facebook: "OK, so we'll just stop putting those links on our pages then." Government: "Er... oh. [sotto voce] Never though of that." Those links were delivering thousands of Facebook members to Canadian online news media sites. A Canadian own goal, if ever there was one. Brought to you by the team of geniuses led by Canada's Only Blackface Prime Minister TM. "addicts do not always want help"
All the more reason to make "help" mandatory. Arrested for any crime and a blood test shows you are on drugs - go to jail for 30 days. A forced reprieve for drugs and alcohol. Get caught again get 30 days again. Re: Why Don’t Solar Panels Work as Well in Heat Waves?
QUOTE: …Why Don’t Solar Panels Work as Well in Heat Waves? Solar panels don’t work well in heat waves due to the temperature-induced decrease in efficiency. As the temperature of the solar panels rises, their power output decreases. During a heat wave, the higher temperatures hinder the panels’ ability to convert sunlight into electricity effectively. Great! They don't work well at night, when it rains or in the winter. Now they don't work well in the Summer! QUOTE: “[The Electric Reliability Council of Texas] (ERCOT) requests Texans to voluntarily conserve power during specific conservation period, if safe to do so,” ERCOT wrote on its website. “ERCOT requests all government agencies (including city and county offices) to implement any and all programs to reduce energy use at their facilities.” Isn't it interesting how in places where "renewables" are heavily used have the people have to be warned to limit their electricity usage? You would think with all that "extra" low cost electricity being produced, you would be able to use more... Recycling either wind or solar products is a mess and rather contradicts the "environmental" sales pitch of the product even though they have been in use for decades. They need to be charged a reclamation fee similar to what is required of mining companies.
re The Atlantic: having choices is bad
A First World problem, too much abundance at the grocery store. The solution? Communism so there is only one choice at the store. It is an Orwellian argument. "The solution? Communism so there is only one choice at the store."
And the store is all out of it. A few years back, my favorite senile socialist, Bernie Sanders, was lamenting the fact that he counted 23 different deodorant offerings in his local drug store. I still remember him blubbering on about there being no need for 23 different varieties of deodorant.
My questions then and now are: How may brands should there be and who gets to decide which ones make the cut? I'm sure Bernie would consider himself the only individual qualified to make such decisions and would be happy to do so, not only for deodorant but for every other consumable good in our vast array of retail stores. If Bernie had his way, I'm sure that the single option stores mentioned in the article would be the only place you could shop in the entire country. After all, it would be for our own good even if we are to ignorant to realize it. Bernie failed to realize that the choice regarding the number of deodorants has already been made and is being reviewed constantly. By whom, you may ask? By the Free Market and it works just fine. If a particular brand of deodorant appeals to a sufficient number of people, it will find a share of the market. If not, it will disappear, no help from Bernie required. "I still remember him blubbering on about there being no need for 23 different varieties of deodorant."
Ask Bernie whether he needs that extra $600,000 lake house in North Hero, Vermont in addition to his place in Burlington or his residence in DC. The Hunt for the Missing Orient Express Trains
