Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re Chris Christie: We should definitely mutilate children's genitals
Christie clearly knows no more about GOP voters than Bud Light knew about their customers. With this position, he would have more success running with a "D" after his name. But, Christie is NOT running to be president. He knows he could never rise above a few percent of votes. He is running to destroy Trump. Christie is a hired gun nothing more, nothing less. Christie's expenses/donations are paid for him and after the election he will get a cushy job in payment for his services. Ditto for Asa Hutchison.
Florida Teacher Fired for Comparing Students' Skin to Coffee
Coffee? There's the mistake. My black friends taught me about the (brown) Paper Bag Test; you're either darker or lighter. The failing Ukraine counter-offensive? But I've been reassured by the main stream media that it's just a matter of time before Russia collapses. Between the West's sanctions, Putin's debilitating illness, and Russian morale being in complete collapse, a glorious Ukrainian victory is assured.
John Kerry in his official capacity as climate Czar has said that "we", meaning the U.S. and all nations, must end farming to save the climate. Can you be that stupid? Obviously we know he does not mean that he and his family intend to or are ready to starve to death to save the climate. He means that YOU must starve to death to save the climate.
The conspiracy theorists, who by the way are about 20 to 0 in being accurate when compared to government experts, have said that YOU are the carbon that the elite and WEF want to eliminate. Crazy, huh? Those crazy conspiracy theorists! It's not as though left wing governments in the past have starved large percentages of their population to death in their quest for power LOL! The very moment John Kerry reduces his carbon footprint to the same level as mine, I'll be right there with him on this.
Until then, I intend to ignore him. Civics tests and obscuring history. Pretendian Elizabeth Warren is the typical academic that has created the gap between the real world and her pretend world. As a measure of her ignorance, she pretends to not know the record of reconciliation between the north and south soldiers and the efforts to unite the country after the civil war. As a result, her naming commission and an endless range of academic morons think that renaming military posts and tearing down statues and monuments will "better" race relations. Unfortunately, like Obama and far too many academics, she is a true believer of the Gramsci/Marcuse marxists who simply love to stir up hate, bitterness, and distrust. History, for the marxist, is malleable for the purposes of obtaining power and control. What a sad ass creature... and the education system is full of them. See DEI, ESG, and the gender benders.
Putin dismissed the African peace proposals out of hand. The West gave all the wrong singles from before the invasion that he had a free hand. Ukraine begged for serious assistance as far back as 2014 and received very little. If the US and the Euro weenies had responded with a string hand in 2014 the invasion would not have occurred. Putin is a master of opportunism and the West is masterful at providing the opportunity.
And if the US had maintained NATO as a defensive force rather than an offensive force, as in Serbia and the march to the Russian border, there would be no conflict in Ukraine.
And there wouldn't be a Ukraine today either. Putin feeds the Russian paranoia with 'NATO encroaching on our borders', but he'd find another reason to have a foreign adventure. In the 21st Century we should not be changing borders by force. Given the mess the Soviet Union left in Eastern Europe at the end of the Cold War and the history of Eastern Europe, having all those countries in a defensive alliance and respecting each other's borders is a better outcome than most of history there. I'd prefer at this point that 'NATO' be disbanded and a purely European alliance put in its place but nothing is perfect.
It would be tough to find a Russian leader that was not "paranoid" about invasions considering all those who have invaded Russia. Each of those invasions have been ugly and bloody. I suspect that if NATO disbands in the near future that we will find that most of the conflict will disappear. It is not in Russia's business interests to be in conflict with anyone, least of all a close western Europe that needs Russian resources. How close are we to the US retreating from Ukraine?

I'm thinking it'd be more of a "Now's the time to secure a buffer zone" scenario, and the neighbors had better watch out. If, that is, Russia had the war stocks and personnel to do so. This doesn't seem to be the case. You could argue they didn't go all out against the Ukraine and they've still got lots to draw on, but that just doesn't seem to be the case from what I've seen. |
