Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re Joy Behar:
The Apostle Paul sure knew what he was talking about when he wrote about silly women with an exaggerated sense of sin and morbid cravings—who are always learning and yet never able to grasp the truth. 2 Timothy 3:6-7 It is worth, considering the debauchery of present days, when professional baseball teams are apologizing to Satan worshipers - anti-Catholic bigots, when self government is being overthrown by self serving liars that where never elected to seats of power but try desperately to micromanage our daily lives, through any means necessary, posting the entire first paragraph of 2 Timothy 3.
QUOTE: 3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. No victory for the poor Ukrainians? You must be a Putin puppet! Of course, some of us have been saying this since the beginning, as well as pointing out that the US is largely responsible for this war. If this leads to the dissolution of NATO, so much the better.
It may lead to the dissolution of NATO and that was Putin's goal. The Ukrainians have a right to defend their homes and families. And they should defend their homes and families. Simple as that!
Jerryskids: If this leads to the dissolution of NATO, so much the better.
So far, it has strengthened NATO. Anon: It may lead to the dissolution of NATO and that was Putin's goal. So far, Putin has failed miserably. Miserably seems too limited an adverb. Abysmally comes to mind.
The Russians tried to pull a coup de main on 24 February last year and failed. Instead of seizing Kyiv and installing a more pliant Belarus-style government, they're more or less back where they started, minus lots of men, equipment and the cruiser Moskva. They look thoroughly incompetent now as well, which is never a good look in warfighting. Before 24 February 2022, this was viewed as a regional conflict sputtering and fizzling along on the periphery of the West's attention span. But Russia blew it and that particular genie ain't going back in the bottle. The besiegers lose 20,000 casualties against 85,000 of the besieged. You'll deny this, of course, but that's not going to do the poor Ukraine any good.
JJM: Miserably seems too limited an adverb. Abysmally comes to mind.
The great thinker and philosopher, Mike Tyson, noted that “Everyone has a plan: until they get punched in the face.” The Ukrainians killed 14,000 Russian speaking Kraines after ousting the legally elected Russian speaking President, and the Russians were never going to accept that genocide. Kraines continue to kill Russian speaking Kraines in eastern Ukraine and outside of the Ukraine to this day.
Tsarizm.com 2023/05/22 This will likely only end when Kraines purge Zelensky one way or the other. Ukraine will never be allowed in NATO if indeed it even survives as a country. indyjonesouthere: The Ukrainians killed 14,000 Russian speaking Kraines
That's the total number killed on both sides, including about 3,000 civilians, in a conflict that Russia fomented, including by infiltrating Russian military units into the Donbas. The US wound up this war going all the way back to allowing the reunification of Germany and agreements that they broke.
A short Joe Rogan piece for entertainment. https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/joe-rogan-dave-smith-down-real-reasons-russia-invaded-ukraine-viral-clip indyjonesouthere: The US wound up this war going all the way back to allowing the reunification of Germany and agreements that they broke.
There was no written agreement not to expand NATO, reports of verbal assurances notwithstanding. Such an agreement would not be consistent with the right of nations to enter alliances freely. That is a Victoria Nuland "FUK THE EU" response.

'Researchers document 55 more white sharks in Cape Cod waters'
I recently booked a hotel room on Marconi Beach for the 4th of July weekend. It's not uncommon to see black seals bobbing up and down near the shore, and they're like popcorn chicken to sharks. re WHAT DOES GOOGLE THINK OF YOU?
It was an interesting piece, as was the link. https://sodakgovs.wordpress.com/2023/04/05/guest-post-chatgpt-writes-about-south-dakotas-governors/ A blogger asked the AI questions about past SD governors. The well written answers were almost totally wrong, as they were in the Powerline piece. re Burgeoning burger battle: Agriculture really bugs Lurch and the Left
QUOTE: As citizens around the world start to rouse themselves from near economic ruin and the erosion of every standard of living norm accepted for the past decades imposed on them as a result of climate change induced hysteria, the WEF members and cult adherents are starting to panic. If “the end is nigh” rhetoric was bad before, now that their chances of pulling the whole scam off are starting to recede like the floodwaters that never inundated the coastlines, they are blasting away at full trumpet. What planet is the author living on? As Dutch farmland moves closer to be confiscated, decrees banning gas stoves, ICE cars, closing of fossil fuel plants not capturing an impossible 95% CO2 being enacted and home appliances to be made less efficient move ahead, how does he come to the conclusion that, "now that their chances of pulling the whole scam off are starting to recede. . ."? It looks to me like the Climate Alarmists are winning, not losing their attack on the little people. I should think victory for Ukraine would be repelling the invaders. There's plenty of room for controversy over what the U.S. should be doing or spending in this context, but not much confusion over what the Ukrainian people are fighting and dying for.
Texan99: I should think victory for Ukraine would be repelling the invaders.
Yes. Victory would be Ukrainian sovereignty restored within secure borders and the cessation of hostilities. That is not an unreasonable hope of the Ukrainian people. Honest question. Have you spent even five minutes looking beyond the headlines in to the actual origin of this conflict and our governments role in it?
Seriously, go you think that matters to those who lost family when Russia invaded? Do you think because you or someone else can point to words or actions by a third party that all Ukrainians should just roll over. At this point what difference does it make what some third party did or said? Just imagine following your advice and a soviet missile hits your building killing your children and your advice is "it's fine!".
I have communicated at length with a Ukrainian friend who fled the country with her young daughter, but had to leave behind her husband. Fortunately their son already was in school in Poland and was preparing to take his mother and sister in. My friend struggles to understand what people in the US think is going on over there.
Like JustMe, I'm less concerned with what bad things the U.S. government may have done, and more with what will happen to Ukrainians if they are overrun by Russian troops. As I said, there is room for tremendous controversy over the US approach to this conflict, but I see no reason to mystify ourselves over what ordinary Ukrainian citizens are hoping for. That would be to repel the invaders if possible, and to escape with their lives and family and perhaps some property if not. Or are we seriously imagining that there's a scenario in which the invaders are not repelled and Ukrainians come out OK? The closest I can get to that is a settlement based on partition--hard luck on the ones left behind, but there may be areas where there would be majority support from the residents. That strikes me as a little nuts, given that Ukraine is poor by European standards but rich by Russian ones, but to each his own. I struggle to understand what's going on there, too. I think most people would like to know, one way or the other. When I was a teenager, we were seeing updates on the Vietnam war daily, at length, on the nightly news, with filmed correspondence. Nowadays virtually everybody has a smart phone with a better camera and sound, how's the coverage? Zero, zip, zilch, nada - all communications are from an administration spokesman.
Puzzling, considering we're sending over Benjamins by the pallet, but maybe, since there's no oversight on their final disposition, maybe it's not so puzzling after all. I have nothing useful to offer about how much money we're sending and how it's being spent. I just get exasperated by the assumption that ordinary Ukrainian people have mystifying motives for wanting to find a way to repel an invasion. Do we think they have some third way to follow that they're too stubborn to investigate? They're being invaded by an army that wants to destroy them.

Like the nonexistent news coverage, the absence of peace talks of any constructive substance means that the leadership of many nations, US included, has decided it is not in their best interests. If cessation of hostilities were to be anywhere in the picture, then the quality and content of news coverage would be driving the process. Just my two cents.
It drives me a little crazy that the advance of technology, with respect to instantaneous communications anywhere on the planet and mass virtual publishing available to the common man, coincides with some the worst journalism policies and practices of my lifetime.

The story about MSU students and the teacher that required payment into her slush fund would be a lot more interesting if the author had been able to identify "MSU". Was it Missouri State, Michigan State, Mississippi State, or Montana State? This author seems to be particularly short- sighted!
I assure you it was not Mississippi State , she would have been tarred and feathered . It is more leftest than when I was there in 71, but them good ole boys from the Ag school would have raised all manor of hell.
If only Hitler knew he would get more support for his tyranny if he called his program of genocide by a nice sounding name. Something like DEI, diversity, equity and inclusion. He could justify his hatred and destruction of a group in Germany by having this "high" sounding phrase to use in his defense. It is almost perfect; it is much like passing a bill in congress to give trillions to labor unions and left wing NGOs and calling that bill the Inflation Reduction Act. See how easy that is. The majority of Americans are stupid and won't look past the headlines.

Oh, oh, pick me! . . . Endlösung der Judenfrage. Re: the Native American Man story. The rumor is that he came out his front door with a gun and a loud and abusive attitude and threatened the agents. The agents are also native American men so you have to wonder why that issue was even brought up. It does indeed look like the agents over reacted but I am reminded of Chris Rock's advice about how to not get shot in a traffic stop.
I’m wondering were you got the ‘rumors’ that the man who was shot was acting abusive? The linked articles say nothing about that. Nor did the embedded video news report. Of course all his friends and neighbors say he was a gentleman, respected throughout the community. That is what we were told about the Gentle Giant. But George Floyd had a rap sheet as long as his giant arm. Did Raymond Mattia have a history with Border Patrol?
He has a right to be upset at people trespassing on his property, and the government doing very little about it. Does being pissed of at the Border Patrol come with a death sentence? Thirty-eight shots. Something tells me that the Cartel is involved with this. I'm wondering where you idea that the Cartel is involved with this.
When the law enforcement chooses to not release anything, not answer questions, imply that we may never know what happened, experience tells us that they are covering up something. They will use the excuse that it is an ongoing investigation to keep everything secret. So at this point everything we know or think we know about this is in doubt. But I ask you do you honestly think that these border patrol agents went there intending to shoot this man??? And if you don't think that what happened to cause half a dozen agents to fire 38 shots at him??? No, I don’t think the Border Patrol went there to shoot Mattia.
I’ve read enough news about the southern border to know that the Cartel is heavily involved in everything that goes on there. From innocent Americans being gunned down in Matamoros, to listening to VDH explain the situation. Of course the Authorities are covering something up. I’m concluding that an innocent man lost his life. I can’t find anything about Mattia being belligerent. Is that the Border Patrol starting those rumors? I’m just wondering where you got that story from. I think we’re on the same page: something is rotten and the Border Patrol is covering their behinds. Does this mean that Neil Young and Willie Nelson will or will not play at the next Farm Aid concerts? Canada has the legal heroin and everything else market online in Vancouver.
Dumbed down and doped up is how lil' G. Sorrows wants his subjects and they do look at us as a herd to be managed. The EVIL Goog pulled that rainbow groomer scout image on the main page after getting a little too eager for Sodom and Gomorrah pride month, they hate that you think for yourself, if so inclined. The Moron Supremacy of ivory tower campus will eat itself just as evil always does, eventually no one can pass the Jacobin purity test and the guillotines come out. Haven't shopped at Target since Year Zero under comrade Barry and that won't be changing anytime soon, I don't care if they lower everything to Bud Light prices. The Dodgers were cool with Garvey, Cey, Lopes, Mota, Yeager, Valenzuela, Welch, Lasorda, but that was a long time ago. Pappy and I sneaked onto the field at Chavez Ravine during the all-time road trip and he loved that sort of thing. Professional sports continue to find new ways to run off their customers. It’s About to Get Incredibly Expensive to Watch Sports https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/05/espn-streaming-and-the-rising-cost-of-watching-sports.html?utm_source=pocket_saves As the agenda to take away your gas stove heats up even while they are denying it, you have to ask, why? Why would they take perfectly good stoves away from American citizens and even more puzzling why would they lie about it even while doing it in plain sight? Well we all know that crazy right wing conspiracy theory that they are trying to leave all Americans with only electric stoves to cook their food because they can actually turn off your electricity if you say or do something they don't like. LOL! What a crazy right wing conspiracy theory. So let's show how stupid that conspiracy theory is by listing all the legitimate reasons for them to take your gas stove. I'll start by listing all the reasons I can think of:
1. But Zachriel will be here anytime to make sure we understand how silly we are because it's only new gas stoves that are banned not the ones you already have... so really, you shouldn't be worried at all because the old ones never, ever, ever break down and there's no way they would try and limit or ban the LP gas itself. There's just no way they would go down that slippery slope, right...right?
