Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

In response to your comment, "I believe nothing". Were on the same page.
We, along with most of the people I know no longer believe or trust the government.
My understanding is that several public statements were made by US military and diplomatic personnel that were intended to let Putin know that the US had highly placed sources of intelligence within the Kremlin. This seems to be a tit-for-tat response.
As for the NYT, in a sane company, whistle-blowing information that was not first run through internal procedures would result in the award of a free cardboard box and all-expense paid trip to the front door. re The UK is among a number of countries with military special forces operating inside Ukraine, according to one of dozens of documents leaked online.
QUOTE: It confirms what has been the subject of quiet speculation for over a year. The leaked files, some marked "top secret", paint a detailed picture of the war in Ukraine, including sensitive details of Ukraine's preparations for a spring counter-offensive. According to the document, dated 23 March, the UK has the largest contingent of special forces in Ukraine (50), followed by fellow Nato states Latvia (17), France (15), the US (14) and the Netherlands (1). The document does not say where the forces are located or what they are doing. The numbers of personnel may be small, and will doubtless fluctuate. But special forces are by their very nature highly effective. Their presence in Ukraine is likely to be seized upon by Moscow, which has in recent months argued that it is not just confronting Ukraine, but Nato as well. It's interesting that no one seems to be doubting the authenticity of the leaked documents. I have also read that it has been deduced that the leaker had to be a senior government official and that the pool of suspects is small. I recall reading a year or so ago that we had boots on the ground in Ukraine as insturctors to train the Ukrainians how to use the weapons they were receiving. I worried then about mission creep. https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.com%2Fnews%2Fworld-europe-65245065 >It's interesting that no one seems to be doubting the authenticity of the leaked documents.
I see the exact opposite i.e., most assume these are misinformation. Relatedly, the Biden Administration doesn't want the US media to talk about them. Why? Obviously, every intelligence service in the world has a copy (regardless of whether they are real or fake) by now -- so, the only plausible motivation here is keeping the U.S. public from knowing/commenting on the content of those documents. The question then is why are they worried about that? There are a couple plausible reasons on this second issue. My guess is that the security apparatus is worried that the collective intelligence of the Internet will help uncover the (fake) information ala the Rathergate affair. But, I suppose it could be pure politics i.e., the Biden Admin is worried the (real) info will contradict the Administration's narrative. US troops deployed in Ukraine, Biden spokesperson confirms
https://americanmilitarynews.com/2023/04/us-troops-deployed-in-ukraine-biden-spokesperson-confirms/ Wow! I didn't get into the fast food biz until I was 18 and graduated from high school. By then I had worked as a roofer with my dad (cash only), a lemons-and-orange picker (alongside the hardest-working Mexicans I've ever met), and a bone fide Navy civil servant computer technician. If you don't have a solid work history by age 18, you're lazy-ass slacker.
I agree Mike.
I was helping the old neighbor lady next door with light painting, roof patching, and lawn mowing every summer from age 10 to 14. She had her house and two small rentals all adjacent to her place. Averaged 3-10 hours a week for those summers. $2 then $3 for the lawns after the first summer. About $0.75 per hour for the paint and patching work. Age 15 I signed my first “w2 form” and was a janitor helper at my high school for 16 hrs a week plus full 40 hr week during summertime. Built my work ethic. Canada has passed a law making it a criminal offense to mis-gender someone with fines up to $25,000. Crazy.
My question is; If a person can change their gender by simply declaring they are now a woman/man why can't anyone choose to misgender anyone else? Seriously! How could you possibly give the rule of law to some people to declare they are something different than they are but punish someone who speaks truth? "Canada has passed a law making it a criminal offense to mis-gender someone with fines up to $25,000. Crazy."
The law is ridiculous, but no, you can't charged or fined simply for "mis-gendering" someone. This law will inevitably backfire. Who - beyond witless governments - would hire anyone when they're already a seething liability? And who would associate with anyone so charmless and easily slighted? Teenagers and jobs ... Learning to show up, show up on time, and get the job done. There's probably a quarter of the adult population that can't get that requirement. Learn those lessons early and they will serve you for a lifetime.
The Pentagon leak ... leakers, peaker's, and sneakers at work on a project that no one believes for a client that few know and likely for a lost cause. An internal IC battle for control of a narrative.
Leaks: As if the rest of the world needed another excuse to hedge against America with the disastrously incompetent, ideological sh*tshow that's occupying the White House.

I haven't been paying much attention to the Pentagon leak, I just assumed it was the CIA or one of the other intelligence services that leaked the documents. For what reason, I don't know but I'm assuming there's some sort of 4D chess game going on. It's always something with those folks.
