We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I'm 60'ish and do an hour plus weight workout 5 to 7 times a week. All of my workout pains and injuries have come from stretching. I start with a rigorous 15 minutes on the elliptical. It warms up a broad range of muscles and joints for my weights workout. I've never had any issues. I do warm down stretching my upper arms, legs and back in a nice long hot shower after a whirlpool, though.
I was a distance runner in school. My track teammates that were sprinters were always stretching. Yet they regularly seemed to have pulled muscles. I get that they were asking for much more explosive effort than us slow plodders were, but it always made me question stretching's true value.
It would be good to see a study that compared various athlete's flexibility with their injury history
