Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Kids can't read or do math, but I'm sure they know the proper pronouns. And the left will just say we're not spending enough money.
Chicago's getting what they vote for, so who am I to complain. Money is not the solution to their problem.
https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/pubs/pdf/pa-298.pdf The solution is culture change but nary a politician or academic will touch that subject. "Acting white" as an insult ensures grades won't change nor will opportunities other than smash and grab. Something has gone terribly wrong.
QUOTE: America’s security, safety, prosperity, and postmodern lifestyles are not our birthright. They are the dividends of centuries of prior hard work, unfettered freedom of speech, disinterested research, and a meritocracy. Tamper with any of that and the system begins to fall apart. The United States will then resemble the miasma we see in most of the world abroad where ideology suppresses free inquiry, political correctness warps research, and tribalism trumps meritocracy. Equity Achievement Unlocked! If we actually had neutral reporters, one of them would have asked exactly what is an electronically controlled pneumatic brake system, and how would it have saved the train? Having used, and designed pneumatic systems my whole career, I can take a guess at what it is, and would whole heartedly agree that the results would be dubious at best.

but don’t tell me you’re the proletariat if you sit behind a desk and make $100,000 a year. You’re part of the elites, you’re in the top 20 per cent. I believe this to be related. Majority of Travelers Want Sustainable Options and Are Willing to Pay For It QUOTE: Nearly 6 in 10 travelers said they are more likely to choose sustainable lodging, according to a newly commissioned survey from FloWater, a Colorado-based company whose mission includes developing alternatives to single-use plastic water bottles. The FloWater survey polled travelers with annual incomes of more than $100,000. The age of survey respondents ranged from 18 to 60 years old. The majority of respondents however (68%) were between 30 and 44 years old and over 60 years old. More than half of travel consumers consider sustainable tourism options important when making travel purchase decisions, the survey found. Additionally, 60% would prefer to spend their money at businesses that follow best practices for sustainability. https://www.travelpulse.com/news/features/majority-of-travelers-want-sustainable-options-and-are-willing-to-pay-for-it.html But what do the little people think? Those making less than 100k/yr? Daggone. I've sat behind a desk for years. I've made over $100k, depending on how the contracts worked out. I had no freakin idea that I am part of the elite! How come the other elite don't listen to all my wonderful ideas concerning governance and economics?
Admittedly, I read your comment and skimmed the linked article. Then I looked up her bio. Phd from University of California Berkeley. Doesn't get more elite than that. I also wouldn't consider myself part of the proletariat cause I don't use commie jargon. I guess I'll have to give the article my undivided attention later. Right now, breaktime is over, I've got to proletariat some billable hours. Her biggest beef seems to be "plastics" in the environment. If she is a Berkely grad I would guess she is still wearing an unrecyclable face mask every day.
So let me do this; the company producing sustainable (read virtuous) products, pays for a poll whose results claim to show the travelers want sustainable (read virtuous) lodging. And this is news?
"The left has given up on ordinary Americans. "
This began in 1965 when Sen Kennedy got a immigration bill passed and he said once we bring in enough immigrants (replacement voters) Democrats will hold power for 200 years. This was the left's plan and they always knew they were abandoning Americans and it would destroy the middle class. Quote of the day:

Everything the government does to make things better always makes it worse. Take "affordable housing" for example. One method of accomplishing this goal is to require that builders build a percentage of "affordable" homes in a new development. How do they do that? Simple, they increase the cost of all the other homes. BUT that higher home cost is exactly the reason that the government is mandating affordable housing!!! Another way they do it is to use tax money to build homes and apartments that are affordable. Of course the mayor or governors brother in law happens to get the contract but ignore that. Typically they will spend between $200K and $500K per unit to build "Affordable housing". How is that "affordable"? It's not, it's subsidized. THEN they subsidize the rent to lower the cost even more so the tax payer is on the hook to build it and on the hook forever to pay for it and it isn't subsidized affordable by any measure. Drive through a trailer park someday and you will see actual "affordable" housing. These same problems apply to rent controlled housing except they get an additional bizarre twist. And that is with the rent control laws no one can afford the costs to build more rentals and owners of existing rentals can't afford to rent them. So the net result is LESS affordable apartments. Encouraging the Voluntary Suicide of the Elderly Is the Last Stop Before Mandatory Euthanasia

https://doomberg.substack.com/p/railroaded?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email That was an interesting piece Aggie. Thanks for posting. I have been avoiding the daily articles on the derailment because I knew they would be full of falsehoods and sensationalism. After all, as we well know, scaring people generates ratings.
My only quibble with the story has to do with the lead example of a "Conrail" train wreck in 2012. Conrail disappeared around 1986, split between CSX and NS. A Georgia Grand Jury has decided that there was a crime committed by those who claimed that there was cheating in Georgia in the 2020 election. Well I think the Grand jury has indicted the proverbial ham sandwich. Is there anyone alive who did not see the videos of the Georgia election count? Clearly there was cheating. We saw on camera a woman put the same stack of ballots into the counting machine. We saw, after the fake emergency that sent the poll watchers away, the workers pulled out suitcases of ballots from under a table. There is much more that wasn't seen as broadly but still happened. Now the grand jury's recommendation is sealed because... they don't want to release it. I think that the intent was to indict by rumor but not to bring it to a trial. Again, why? Because the issue can not stand up under the defense's ability to call witnesses and ask difficult questions. It would be a disaster for the prosecutor to hear the explanation for those suitcases of ballots under oath. AND, someone, likely at a position much more important in the Democrat party than the prosecutor don't want that witness to testify. Imagine the chain of witnesses to the custody of those ballots finally getting back to whoever brought them there. Someone knows that those ballots were phony and they don't want anyone pointing at them. But I hope it goes to trial. I want to hear answers to all the suspicious actions in Georgia in 2020.
