Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I've been working on my whiteness for 66 years and have it just about right, I think.
Well, it's really more of a hobby than work. Gerard Van der Leun has passed away. So sad. I will miss him.
Yes, his legacy is the deep impression he made on the many who enjoyed his American Digest, his essays, poetry, opinions on culture; his stories of his long journey from youthful progressive to seasoned conservative, and the magic, beauty and idiosyncrasies he gleaned from the web to share with his readers. His regular commenters feel we've lost a beloved friend. He will surely be missed.
"Antifa is on the job"
This is about the Democrat party. They have unleased Antifa because the Republicans are threatening actual governing and investigaton of the Swamp. QUOTE: The Flu-ification of COVID Policy Is Almost Complete COVID-19 was a novel coronavirus, meaning the human immune system had no experience with the strain. That meant it took time for the immune system to respond, giving time for the virus to wreak havoc on the body. COVID-19 killed over a million Americans. With previous exposure, either through immunization or previous infection, COVID-19 is no longer a novel coronavirus, so the immune system has a memory of the strain and can much more quickly respond. Many seasonal flus and colds probably started as more dangerous diseases, but are no longer novel, and so, no longer nearly as dangerous. They can still be deadly for people who are immune compromised, but most people recover quickly. Annual vaccination is recommended for the flu, and will probably be recommended for COVID. In other words, this is not a new phenomenon, but an ancient problem. Viruses will continue to jump from other animals to humans, primarily livestock, such as poultry and pigs, but from other organisms, as well. New medical technology, such as mRNA vaccines, will help humans develop effective responses. You buried the lede.
Yeah, yeah we know all that shit about viruses. BUT this virus was weaponized in a lab and leaked. It appears to have been leaked intentionally AND it appears that China compounded that problem by sending thousands of their infected citizens to Western countries with the intent of sharing the virus. The second and perhaps more important part left unsaid is our government lied to us. They actively hid information from us, gave us inaccurate information and enforced rules under a unnecessary emergency declaration that were contrary to our constitution. They continue to lie to us and to cover up their past lies. We need to identify and prosecute all government officials who participated in this massive unlawful "insurrection" against our constitution. OneGuy: BUT this virus was weaponized in a lab and leaked.
The evidence argues otherwise, including that these sorts of viral outbreaks are typical zoonotic occurrences. OneGuy: It appears to have been leaked intentionally That makes no sense. Why would China intentionally leak a highly contagious respiratory virus in their own city? OneGuy: The second and perhaps more important part left unsaid is our government lied to us. It was a novel coronavirus, so there were a serious of missteps, but the overall thrust of trying to contain the outbreak was appropriate. OneGuy: contrary to our constitution The U.S. Constitution and federal statute give broad powers to the government during emergencies. However, the vast majority of emergency regulations were promulgated by state governments, not the federal government. "It was a novel coronavirus, so there were a serious of missteps, but the overall thrust of trying to contain the outbreak was appropriate. "
Two weeks to flatten the curve and here we are three years later still dealing with their lies. Masks mandates which don't do a thing. People being fired for not taking a vax that neither prevents one from catching or spreading the diseases. And on and on and on. Yeah. Missteps. That's all. /rolls eyes jimg: Two weeks to flatten the curve and here we are three years later still dealing with their lies.
As it was a novel coronavirus, nobody knew exactly how the pandemic would develop. Flattening the curve helped, but it didn't stop transmission. jimg: Masks mandates which don't do a thing. Masks are effective in many common situations. The most common mode of transmission turns out to be aerosols. Masks don't work well when virus loads are very high (COVID wards, crowded bars) or very low (outdoors). Mandates are only effective when there isn't widespread non-compliance. jimg: People being fired for not taking a vax that neither prevents one from catching or spreading the diseases. The vaccines reduces the spread of contagion by reducing the probability of infection, and by reducing the severity and duration of infection. Deliberately lying is not a misstep. eeyore: Deliberately lying is not a misstep.
The advice changed as the situation changed. That's what happens with a novel virus. " situation changed"
I.e. They stole the election, Opps, everyone saw them steal the election, bring on the lockdowns and jailing innocent Americans for noticing they stole the election. It was known very early on that people of advanced age were among the most susceptible to the Wuhan flu yet governors in New York, Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania (all Democrats) sent people known to be infected back to nursing homes where they were not prepared to deal with the situation. In the case of New York City, a hospital ship and two field hospitals went empty as those infected people were sent to the nursing homes.
Doctors were using hydroxychloroquine and having good results yet the FDA, CDC, and policy drivers like Birx and Fauci pooh poohed those treatments because they were off label and hadn't gone through randomized trials and promoted efforts to restrict the use of those treatments. This was new as in the past a doctor had wide latitude to prescribe drugs he felt would or could be effective. The propaganda against treatments such as hydroxychloroquine (which is given freely to people who might be exposed to malaria) and ivermectin was so effective that even though those two drugs have a much better safety profile than "approved" drugs such as remdesivir which was actually killing patients from renal failure, they were feared to be poisonous. Many elements of the medical establishment prohibited doctors from talking about or using "non-approved" treatments. Hospitals fired doctors and in some cases medical regulators threatened to revoke medical licenses if they did not tow the line. Dr. Fauci at one point touted remdesivir as the only effective treatment of Wuhan flu but instead it caused kidney damage. Incidentally, remdesivir for Covid was never tested in randomized trials demanded of hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin. Should we get into the lies about how Wuhan flu deaths were counted? Do I need to go into all the lies about the vaccines? mudbug: It was known very early on that people of advanced age were among the most susceptible to the Wuhan flu yet governors in New York, Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania (all Democrats) sent people known to be infected back to nursing homes where they were not prepared to deal with the situation.
While probably a mistake, the hospitals were being overrun, the patients were thought to be clear of the virus, and the nursing homes had to take precautions, and most nursing homes were already experiencing outbreaks. But most nursing homes weren't properly prepared. This doesn't address the point. mudbug: The propaganda against treatments such as hydroxychloroquine (which is given freely to people who might be exposed to malaria) and ivermectin was so effective that even though those two drugs have a much better safety profile than "approved" drugs such as remdesivir which was actually killing patients from renal failure, they were feared to be poisonous. Randomized trials have shown the drugs to be ineffective in treating COVID. mudbug: Incidentally, remdesivir for Covid was never tested in randomized trials demanded of hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin. In fact, phase 3 trials were completed for remdesivir showing that it was effective in shortening the recovery time in patients hospitalized with COVID. See Gottlieb et al., Early Remdesivir to Prevent Progression to Severe Covid-19 in Outpatients, New England Journal of Medicine 2022. QUOTE: Don’t Know Much About History . . . The ultimate goal of work like this {the 1619 Project from Nikole Hannah-Jones and the New York Times} is to destroy America’s foundations through ignorance and disinformation, and to create an entirely different nation that no longer embodies the principles of the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. The 1619 Project doesn't provide a complete picture of America's founding, but does provide important context. It is considered only as a supplementary text in high schools, if at all. QUOTE: We are a country now ignorant of the most basic historical and civic knowledge. Was the country not ignorant before now? QUOTE: Every student should read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. True. We checked California's curriculum. The curriculum includes the Declaration of Independence, highlighting natural rights, the Enlightenment ideals of the social contract, and the grievances against King George. The curriculum also includes study of the U.S. Constitution, such as its purpose, how the Constitutional Convention attempted to balance the interest of the states, the Three-fifths Compromise, the attempt to balance power between the three branches of government, and the Bill of Rights. Of course, most young students remember only a bit of what they are taught in school, which should only be seen as the beginning of learning. The flu-ification of Covid ... it seems they may be trying to change that.
From Robert Malone on Pfizer responses to Veritas Expose. A primer on modern crisis management when you can control Google, corporate media, and have virtually unlimited social media assets. https://rwmalonemd.substack.com/ Found at Whatfinger News A recent report has exposed the fact that during the pandemic every hospital was eligible for $48,000 from the U.S. government for each patient that died from covid in the hospital. Presumably this was done to reimburse hospitals for their covid related expenses. But it encouraged a little cheating where any dying patient would get labeled as having died from covid. Apparently, most hospitals did exactly that and this was one reason that the U.S. covid deaths was so high and inaccurate.
Russia has upped their game in Ukraine. They have mobilized about 700,000 troops and it would appear that they intend to over run Ukrainian defenders maybe not all of Ukraine but likely the East and South. While we don't yet know what they intend to do this at least seems most likely. This is likely to be a make or break effort by Putin and we may know in six months or less how this all will end. Hopefully NATO troops will stay West of Ukraine's border. Offering them aid and equipment is far less risky than joining them on the battlefield. I sincerely hope our president (or whoever is controlling him) doesn't escalate this with direct involvement.
