Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

All Biden has to do to end Title 42 would be to end the public health emergency. That's it. But he will not do that because that would bring an immediate end to all mandates related to covid-19, including all vaccine mandates. In other words, Biden wants to both have his cake and eat it too.
At my house, Kamikazi male cardinals kept pecking at our bedroom windows. It got so bad that we had to place bird netting over the windows.
If you have a shiny helium-filled Mylar balloon floating on the other side of the window (inside), they will desist, especially if it looks like a face.
There is now evidence that Obama and Hillary ordered the FBI to spy on Trump prior to the 2016 election AND after he was elected. The MSM hid this from the public. How and why do we tolerate this?
Arguably Biden and the Democrat congress did have a good legislative year. The problem is that the Democrats have become Marxists/communists and their good legislative year is intended to destroy us. This isn't a secret, MSNBC knows this, so MSNBC is all in with destroying the Republic.
As troubling as it is that the Democrats have become Marxists/communists bent on destroying America it is equally troubling that the elite in the Republican party believe it is more important to destroy Trump and his MAGA followers than it is to stop the Democrats from destroying America. Our stock market and our economy is a Potemkin village. Nothing is real. There is so much printed money floating around supporting the fake economy that it appears to be good. All of the federal departments are being used to control the appearance of the economy and keep up the deceit. But it can't last, these managed fake economies never last. And worse the HUGE debt is very real and with interest rates rising the cost just to pay the interest on the debt could approach $3 trillion a year, an impossible amount just to pay the interest. The economy is going to crash. The government isn't "managing" it they are "managing" the truth about it. For example they claim the unemployment rate is 3.7% but they are not counting many of the unemployed. The real rate is in excess of 12%. They say that the inflation rate is 8.7% but they have fiddled with the numbers for years. If they used the same standard that they used in 1908 the inflation rate is 18%. If they have any hope of bring down inflation they need to increase the interest rates to 12%-18%. Just for fun use your calculator and calculate the interest on the national debt at 12%. This is all going to crash soon... Damn fat fingers. That should be "If they used the same standard that they used in 1980 the inflation rate is 18%."
It amazes me that some one so ignorant of the Constitution is able to hold an elected office. How can something that was literally written into the document, at the founding, carefully and artfully crafted by the founders, be bad for America?
If anything, the electoral college should be expanded to Statewide races. This would deny the big cities from imposing their Big Government tyranny on the smaller populations in rural areas. Americas, as founded, is a representative republic. Built to protect the liberties of the individual against the authoritarian impulses of government; to constrain government. Jamie Raskin and his ilk are what is bad for America. John Roberts to the rescue! There's no way Title 42 survives a challenge, it's a public health fig leaf being used in place of immigration enforcement. The Republicans cheering on this misuse of the law are just as bad as the Leftists arguing for their misuse of the law, claiming that "by any means necessary" is good enough for government the same as the CDC's eviction moratorium. Come to think of it, they admitted that was illegal but they allowed it to continue, didn't they? Roberts is simply buying time for Biden to come up with a plan for handling the border crisis other than denying there's a border crisis and claiming the border crisis is all Trump's fault anyways. Biden ought to be impeached on Day One for violating his oath of office to take care that the law be faithfully executed and we shouldn't accept ad hoc "solutions" to the problem.
I don't totally agree. The states are making an argument that exceeds just title 42. The Supremes could see the obvious; that the administration is failing in their primary and some would say only duty and that it to protect the borders, citizens and people. This is clearly unconstitutional by the administration and the Supremes could consider this case as the opening to rule on exactly that. Having said that, I don't think that they will. The Supremes have proven themselves to be deaf, dumb and blind and derelict in their duty to the country so I don't expect much of anything useful from them ever again. I think that the country is going to hell in a handbasket and the Supremes will sit back and watch it happen and never make a peep. The rule of law ended in 2008 and I don't think there is any hope it will ever be restored.
Regarding the SouthWest Airline's scheduling problems.
It doesn't smell right. I accept that a part of their problem is that their hubs are in cities that experienced really bad weather. But what sends up a flag for me is that their various unions and employee representatives are all jumping on the band wagon to seemingly want them to be in trouble. I'm suspicious that their employees sabotaged them. Maybe not 100% but they seemed all too ready to put down the management. When Herb Kelleher ran SWA, he was operationally focused and regularly walked the front lines, assessed and took input. When he retired, he was replaced by a Bean Counter. The Bean Counter replaced the Chief Operating Officer with another Bean Counter, one with zero operational experience. Now, a few years later, we have their legacy, after they spent their tenure liquidating Herb Kelleher's legacy.
Their scheduling software doesn't talk to their personnel software and the architecture of both systems dates back to the 90s. The front line employees and pilots have been broadcasting alerts for years on this exact subject. But Bean Counters pay attention to Bottom Lines, not Hot Lines. Bottom-line Bean Counter management has ruined just about every industry that it has touched, when given leadership authority. Accounting and Financial Management is a service. It has no vision, no inspiration, no insight, and is not suitable for leadership in any specialized modern business that relies on technology. The same mistakes gutted the oil industry in the 80s and 90s, and it's been doing the same to Health Care / Medicine in the past couple of decades. Ask any doctor that works for a hospital system. I don't get a lot of my students who demand As. I think they sense that I won't crumble, so they don't try me.
But I get WAY TOO many of them that can't do basic math to calculate their own grades. Now to be clear, my classes all have an online gradebook that they can access 24/7. The gradebook is updated within a day of them getting a grade. So all they really have to do is look and see "300 out of 600 possible points, 50% average, F in the class at the moment". Some still can't understand that, though. I taught a student recently who didn't learn much and had an F so bad that he couldn't pass even if he tripled his scores on the remaining assessments. I explained this to him. He said "Nah. I am gonna pull this out." He didn't. His grades didn't improve at all. So I recorded the F for him. Then I got an email a couple of days later. "Why didn't I pass?!?!" He asked. "Your grades are based on a point system. And I had some points!" Yeah, you did, I explained. You just didn't have ENOUGH points. Not even close. And I had warned you do drop while you had time. But you didn't. Geez. Not sure what he needed to hear. “I want to retire three days before my funeral.”
THIS, this, all day this. We are wired to be productive and I see no need to fight it. |
