Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re Op-Ed Argues 'Put Down the Burger' to Protect Earth's Biodiversity
The author is actually right about a couple of things. Biofuels are a waste of resources and crop yields need to continue to increase. Of course increasing yields means more genetically modified seeds and more nitrogen produced from natural gas. It is unclear how the writer feels about THAT. I agree. Technology is blamed for a lot of evils, but the truth is, if not for technological advances, we'd all still be living in mud and wattle huts and dying at 35.
All children should eat for free. But of course what they mean is the taxpayer should provide billions some of which will feed children when there parents should be feeding them, some of the money will be laundered back to the Democrat party but most of it will be wasted or stolen and in the end the problem will be worse.
Here's an idea; The parents of all children in school requiring free lunch will have their income attached, lose their drivers license and have judgements filed against them by the state. Or exactly what fathers face when they don't pay child support. So poor working families lose their jobs because they no longer can get to work without a valid driver's license? Something tells me you haven't thought this one through very far.
Not every kid who qualifies for a free lunch (or breakfast) comes from a deadbeat family. "So poor working families lose their jobs because they no longer can get to work without a valid driver's license?"
THANK YOU! Now apply that same logic to the fathers who lose their license. That move was nothing short of vindictiveness by the feminists. "Not every kid who qualifies for a free lunch (or breakfast) comes from a deadbeat family." I say you are 99.9% wrong. In fact if you are even able to find a family that cannot afford to buy their kid lunch that problem was more than likely caused by the welfare system and our soft on drugs policies. These are self inflicted problems and the solution is NOT massive amounts of more free stuff. Challenge!: We will pick a school and every child that "qualifies" for free lunch if one or both of their parents smokes, has tats, does drugs or alcohol or has a smart phone I win $100. If none of those things are true you win $100. I bet I win far more than you. " Almost 40 percent of students identify as LGBTQ at these liberal arts colleges: survey"
In college in the 60s and 70s, one improved one's chances of "getting lucky", by espousing some unconventionality. I suspect little has changed. The "Green Energy Creates Jobs" nonsense sounds an awful lot like the old story of Milton Friedman, on a visit to Russia, noticing a construction site where they were using lots of men with shovels and wheelbarrows instead of heavy machinery. Upon commenting about how inefficient this seemed, his host told him this was a method of keeping unemployment low. To which Friedman commented that if they really wanted to eliminate unemployment they should take away the shovels and replace them with teaspoons.
Destroying a perfectly good electrical system only to replace it with a much less efficient one is not "producing jobs", it's putting productive capital to use in a counter-productive way. You'd actually be better off hiring thousands of people to dig holes and thousands of other people to fill them back in. True. The real problem with all of the "green energy" schemes (scams) is not that they cannot work--which they cannot--but that the mere attempt to implement them make us poorer. Not 10 or 20 or 30 years from now, but right now. Our present and soon distress is the opportunity cost of what have been called "luxury beliefs".
This is the squandering of real wealth (not money per se) on magic and superstitious belief. Societies become wealthy, and have the ability to spend on things that are not about mere survival, because they do things efficiently, that is, with minimal waste. It need not be this way, it seems, but given the ignorance and inability of most people to think critically, it is hard to see a way out of it. Every time I see the acronym for diversity, equity, inclusion, I can't help but arrange them to DIE. Which is what will happen if you follow that nonsense to its conclusion. It's all a LIE. They do not want diversity of thought. They do not want true equity, they want the outcome to be equal, which is impossible. And they certainly do not want to include anyone that does not follow along lockstep with their sociopathic mindset.

Much more useful that all those cooked statistics in the annual U.S. News & World Report. ‘It’s Savage Proof The Left Fears Ideas More Than Actual Killers.”
I think the headline should be. "The left fears actual killers more than imaginary killers." Blocking conservative ideas comes with zero risk, zero cost and high praise. Criticizing actual killers sometimes results in actual risk, real costs and harsh criticism. It makes clear the lie that words = violence. As someone of Wend ancestry, I'm still waiting for someone to declare the word "vandalism" to be an ethnic slur.
It just got interesting!

It seems to me that if you win a straight election, your position is lets do this again and again, who cares what they say or try and do. If the the election is bent, then you need to go after the protesters. |
