Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Trump is Finished........, Where have I heard that before?
archer2010: Trump is Finished........, Where have I heard that before?
AAUGH! QUOTE: Trump is now operating at a Kanye West level of insanity. You noticed. Just another never Trumper who either doesn't understand what is going on or is dishonestly collaborating with the cheaters. The U.S> has truly become a banana republic. Our elections are a sham. The 2020 election was massively stolen and the evidence is enormous. Probably between 5 million to 20 million votes stolen changed to Democrat or totally fabricated at a print shop. People like this fool at Powerline who hate Trump so much that they approve of the stolen election have doomed the country. We will never go back to honest and open elections again, And this fool has the stupidity to put in print his acquiescence to that disastrous result.
But the question raised is a simple one really. If a candidate massively stole an election and we discovered it what should happen? What would the constitution say should happen? Would it be that the cheater cheated fair and square so they deserve to hold their office? Or would it say; of course they must be booted and the candidate that actually won placed in office? Which makes the most sense??? The Democrats must be dreadfully fearful of Trump or they wouldn't continue to attack him. Merrick Garland is going after Trump.
Why bother if Trump is "finished?" feeblemind: Merrick Garland is going after Trump. Why bother if Trump is "finished?"
Because Trump broke the law . . . allegedly. Pure and simple: LAWFARE!
Lawfare is the use of legal systems and institutions to damage or delegitimize an opponent, or to deter individual's usage of their legal rights. The term may refer to the use of legal systems and principles against an enemy, such as by damaging or delegitimizing them, wasting their time and money (e.g. SLAPP suits), or winning a public relations victory. Well someone is "finished" and it ain't Trump.
Russiagate Coordinator and later the Hunter Biden Laptop Suppression Coordinator James Baker has been "exited" from Twitter. https://jonathanturley.org/2022/12/04/six-degrees-from-james-baker-a-familiar-figure-reemerges-with-the-release-of-the-twitter-files/#more-197503 The ACLU was always against freedom. They were always communists. They were always anti-American and wanted to remake us into a Soviet style system. Everyone associated with the ACLU should be getting the treatment that the DOJ is now giving the J6 protestors. The ACLU states that it is interested in protecting civil liberties but they use that cloak to do irreparable harm. They are single handedly responsible for the homeless problem. They are contributory in the Antifa and BLM problem. The contributed to the now regular and massive voting cheating problem. And they are quite happy with the turmoil they have created. They should all be in jail.
My opinion, There is a difference between "Public Accommodations" and "creative product". The first is a thing offered, the second is mental effort requiring thought/speech"
We allow the social media, a private business, to censor thought/speech even tho they offer the public an accommodation -- a place to talk -- creative thought. We allow all kinds of actions and speech for Political Speech -- burning flags by the Supreme Court. I think the Supreme Court must sort all this out since they started it with determining actions are Free Expression. What is Free Market? What is free Speech? What is Free Expression? Question: What is the difference between an Engineer, Architect, and an artist, Composer, Sculptor creating a commissioned piece? Or a florist, web-site designer, party consultant/caterer?
Why is a business compelled to sell but the customer is not compelled to buy?
When a customer enters a store, the business is compelled to sell. Should not the customer upon entering a store be compelled to buy? No more "just looking" Jan Peter Blickenstaff: My opinion, There is a difference between "Public Accommodations" and "creative product".
That's exactly the crux of the matter. When is a business a public accommodation under the law? When is it free expression? A painter is not typically a public accommodation, but what if the painter sets up a booth and offers to make portraits for all comers (except Blacks)? The problem is devising a workable rule. Jan Peter Blickenstaff: Why is a business compelled to sell but the customer is not compelled to buy?
Not sure what that would accomplish. The Civil Rights Act was a response to historical oppression. Jan Peter Blickenstaff: No more "just looking" That makes no sense. Someone may want to check prices. Or a Jewish person may accidentally wander into a pork butcher. Free trade. each side is free to enter into the transaction or not? If one side is compelled to do business why not both sides? The reasons for doing business or rejecting do not seem to matter to the courts.
Jan Peter Blickenstaff: each side is free to enter into the transaction or not?
All rights have limitations, especially in the commercial realm. You need a business license. You have to pay taxes. You can't dump your pollution in the river. You cannot dump your pollution in the river whether as an individual or a commercial individual.

You Can Now Buy Ralphie Parker's House From 'A Christmas Story'
https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/you-can-now-buy-ralphie-parkers-house-from-a-christmas-story/ QUOTE: ACLU against freedom . . . "Should an architecture firm that believes Black families don’t deserve fancy homes be permitted to turn away Black clients because its work is “expressive”? Can a florist shop whose owner objects to Christianity refuse to serve Christians?" Actually, to that second set of questions I would answer “yes.” It took nearly two centuries for the United States to end the racial oppression of Blacks. After a great, multi-generational struggle, the crowning achievement of the Civil Rights Movement was the Civil Rights Act, which outlawed discrimination in public accommodations. QUOTE: Assume those Skokie Nazis didn’t want to march, but instead wanted to rent a ballroom made available to the public located at or owned by a synagog. The space is regularly rented to the public, and in fact is considered a public accommodation by the legal definition. Should the state compel them to rent the room to the Nazis? Politics is not a protected class under federal and most state laws. QUOTE: This is about power. Raw power to compel others. And it is disgusting. Yup. The Civil Rights Movement was about power. “I'll have them niggers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years. [Said to two governors regarding the Civil Rights Act of 1964, according to then-Air Force One steward Robert MacMillan]”
― Lyndon B. Johnson Z: It took nearly two centuries for the United States to end the racial oppression of Blacks. After a great, multi-generational struggle, the crowning achievement of the Civil Rights Movement was the Civil Rights Act, which outlawed discrimination in public accommodations.
Let me help you with that. It took nearly two centuries for Democrats to end their racial oppression of blacks. Every civil rights law proposed by Republicans were filibustered by Democrats including the 1964 Civil Rights Act. That is a particularly interesting case since the senator who filibustered it, Senator Robert Byrd once a leader in the KKK, performed the longest filibuster ever back in the days when the senator filibustering had to actually stand up and talk. He was lauded for his supposed love of the Constitution and was a prominent and powerful Democrat till he died in spite of his opposition to equal rights for blacks. Z: Politics is not a protected class under federal and most state laws. Help me out here. Are you saying that a member of a "protected class" (and presumably only a member of a protected class) can compel someone to produce something expressing support for something that would go against their religious beliefs? How about moral beliefs? How about scientific beliefs? mudbug: It took nearly two centuries for Democrats to end their racial oppression of blacks.
It was the institutions of the United States and the individual states that legally countenanced slavery and segregation. You are correct, though, that the Democratic Party was the longtime political home of racial oppression. The Democratic Party of the twentieth century was a coalition of Southern segregationist whites, liberals, and labor -- until the aftermath of the Civil Rights Movement. The battle for Civil Rights largely occurred within the Democratic Party. mudbug: Are you saying that a member of a "protected class" (and presumably only a member of a protected class) can compel someone to produce something expressing support for something that would go against their religious beliefs? If your religion or moral belief is that Blacks should not be a patron or employee in your store open to the public, then the Civil Rights Act would go against your religious belief. Protected classes under federal law include race, color, religion, sex, and national origin. However, the original topic was should businesses be able to refuse to service Blacks? Z: The battle for Civil Rights largely occurred within the Democratic Party.
The battle about civil right largely occurred within the Democratic party. The Republican party was already the party for civil rights as evidenced by the many civil rights laws they proposed since the mid 1800s. Z: However, the original topic was should businesses be able to refuse to service Blacks? Actually, the original topic was the ACLU's support for Colorado's requiting people to produce expressive or artistic products that are contrary to their values. I'll ask again: Are you saying that a member of a "protected class" (and presumably only a member of a protected class) can compel someone to produce something expressing support for something that would go against their religious beliefs? How about moral beliefs? How about scientific beliefs? The freedom of religion is a Constitutional protection. The civil rights laws of the 60's and later can not usurp a Constitutional protection.
The quotas/affirmative action will go away as they are not Constitutional. That will include all the 60's and after laws that infringed on other Constitutional rights. Legislative acts do not override Constitutional law. Even when judges of all levels think they can. mudbug: The battle about civil right largely occurred within the Democratic party.
Republicans didn't constitute sufficient numbers on their own to end segregation. Civil rights legislation required Democratic votes. The Democratic Party, as noted, was split on the issue. For instance, when Truman integrated the military, southern Democrats walked out as Dixiecrats, almost costing Truman the election. Johnson irrevocably moved to end segregation, knowing that it meant losing support of southern whites. While Republicans adopted the Southern strategy, because of the political courage of liberal Democrats, Blacks almost universally moved to the Democratic Party. mudbug: Actually, the original topic was the ACLU's support for Colorado's requiting people to produce expressive or artistic products that are contrary to their values. Also as noted above, the question is where to draw the line between public accommodations and artistic expression. mudbug: Are you saying that a member of a "protected class" (and presumably only a member of a protected class) can compel someone to produce something expressing support for something that would go against their religious beliefs? Under federal law, everyone is a member of a protected class. We already answered your question. If your religious or moral belief entails not having Blacks as patrons or workers in your public accommmodation, then civil rights law would required you to go against your religious or moral belief or stop being a public accommodation. If to "produce something" includes a butcher shop selling meat to the public, then civil rights law clearly applies. The question, then, is whether offering websites to the public for money is a public accommodation or artistic expression. indyjonesouthere: The freedom of religion is a Constitutional protection. Yes, but no rights are without limits. Religious liberty does not mean you can sacrifice virgins contrary to civil law. In this case, anti-discrimination law covers commercial activity. You remain free to be a racist at home or in your church. Z: We already answered your question... The question, then, is whether offering websites to the public for money is a public accommodation or artistic expression.
Well, that is sort of the question and you neither answered that question nor mine but there's no use trying to get you to actually read my question much less answer it so I'm done here.

Especially legislated rights. The people have not approved of them on a state by state basis as required by an amendment. Thats why progs have always used the courts... until now when it looks iffy. Let us thank Harry Reid.

And let us all condemn the progs in the Dem party for substituting the government welfare plantation for the old cotton plantation. And let us not forget Margaret Sanger, eugenics, and the Planned Parenthood camps that are especially happy to rid us of all those unwanted black babies. Can China even butcher that efficiently?

It depends on what "produce something" refers to. Artistic expression is not covered by discrimination law. Public accommodations are. There are gray zones, but we would suggest that people who don't approve of interracial marriages shouldn't be in the marriage business. Consider what you mean by "something expressing support." Someone could claim that allowing Blacks in their business expresses support for racial mingling, which is against their sincere religious beliefs. The Supreme Court seems inclined to side with the religious liberty position, meaning businesses would be able to discriminate against Blacks or other minorities. indyjonesouthere: Especially legislated rights. So France is banning flights between cities that have rail service of less than 2 1/2 hours duration? I'm assuming this only applies to commercial flights, private jets are still just fine since we know there's no peasants with their own private jets.
The rise of "Foucault-Think" and its kin propelled me out of graduate school. Confused that individuals could neither see where such thought was headed nor even consider defending the idea of truth...

Used to be the church, but they all got the religion of science, so I guess it will be the scientists.... re Thread Christmas card illustration
I happen to like these circa turn of the century illustrations, not because they are good, but because I consider them to be reflective of the era. So someone shot out a couple of transformers in NC. It kinda coincided with a gay child grooming event. Someone online made vague references to the event and the transformer destruction as being connected. The sheriff actually investigated the woman who made the comments and found zero evidence that she was anything other than someone posting online. Yet the MSM and various lawmakers are openly blaming it on those who oppose child grooming and molestation. It could actually be true, that is someone who resents the child molesters grooming children may have done this. But wouldn't it make sense to know this before going off the deep end?
It is actually a functional tactic to freeze up the system in an era where Biden calls the second amendment ridiculous as guns are no match against fighters and tanks.
Whether the two incidents are tied together is not the least bit known, but I bet there are some nervous people out there hoping that Ukraine infrastructure is not our future. You can always tell when something is NOT about civil rights when it specifically applies to only one group. The LGBQBS community is making a mistake. They have long ago gotten what they claimed they want and no they want you to bow before then and kiss their,,, ahh,,, as$. They never wanted equality as in marriage etc. they wanted special rights and privileges. Now, it appears that what they wanted all along was access to your kids.
Recently the evidence that the covid 19 did indeed come from Wuhan has been upgraded to include that it's release was intentional.
Now we know that the Covid vaccine is killing people at an alarming rate and we recently discovered that the scientists and government knew this before the mandates and mandated it anyway https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOmf-i3TaWSTBsjfgLTfQ8Hg7MKxd0uTOY2S_ZUJCRXSWQPw1M4iBCY5u5eviviIuOprKwWeUePUnH2zc2DnIfTAwtTKPfKnuxwOkUabcwxgyuVoP39YWc3zt8-THzW5WETJYwVjYorcvaDPVP1rAcmKu2LKYvpsZILKS2MXHeWTSuS3lxPzgCv41ESg/s1165/90mimb_8393707b544bb796ecf3543ab581ee27_02ec4121_1280.jpg 118,000 children have "died suddenly" in the USA since the roll out of the covid vaccine. This was not an accident. And it continues at that same rate with no end in sight. You won't find this on your evening news. Why?
