We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We had 22 for Thanksgiving. It's a cheerful chaos. Our prayer was for gratitude, of course, for family and friends. Little else matters. My only mistake was not getting the pianny tuned. Musicians are senstive about that.
Two turkeys as usual. Lots of leftovers. This is the one on the grill, cooked over firewood:
Mrs. BD made the pies. Too many. From scratch of course. She enjoys it. Squash, pumpkin, pecan - plus a great Indian Pudding which is my favorite.
The Tarte Tatin came out quite nicely, thank you, although there were 'moments' of doubt during the caramelization phase. I doubled the caramel quantity and was glad I did, also added a small amount of Apple Pie Spice and increased the thickness of the puff pastry layer. It was a big hit, and I'll make it again. Got compliments on the improved fruit / crust ratio (more fruit).
