Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re Taibbi: The FBI's Transformation, From National Police To Domestic Spy Agency
But then there is this: Couple Who Sold Military Secrets Out Of Fear For ‘Democracy’ Slapped With Hefty Prison Sentences QUOTE: Instead, they arranged to repeatedly deliver information, including operations manuals and performance reports, to an individual they thought served as an agent of an undisclosed foreign government in return for $100,000 in cryptocurrency, the AP reported. In reality, the couple handed over sensitive military plans in memory cards, disguised as chewing gum wrappers and peanut butter sandwiches, to an undercover FBI operative.. https://dailycaller.com/2022/11/10/couple-sentenced-military-secrets-donaldtrump/ If you were a juror in this type of case would you convict the defendents or find them innocent because you believed the FBI set them up and/or fabricated the evidence? If they were indeed guilty. How do you advocate for shutting down the FBI if they are still doing important work? It's a dilemma. Can the FBI be reformed to do important work without entrapping or harassing innocent Americans? If the FBI needs to be shut down and a new agency formed to investigatew national security threats, human trafficking and the like, what would stop THAT agency from being weaponized against the American people as well? I don't have the answer, but I wonder if it is even possible to reform an institution with systemic rot. You don't throw out the baby with the bathwater, but you don't drink the bathwater, either. We can demand that our elected and appointed officials in the Federal Government abide by their charters and don't overstep them. Our system of checks and balances is supposed to include real teeth, outside Inspectors General that have the authority to step in, evaluate, assess, and present findings. When that is rendered powerless, then you have out-of-control human behaviors asserting themselves - as with Russiagate. Once that rot is allowed to stay, or take a pension, then your mission has been compromised and it's time to clean house.
Oh, look: The Inspector General has been told to eat a sh*t sandwich by the State Department, who can't explain over a billion $ in expenditures in Afghanistan - after they ran away and the Taliban seized -let's see, what was it - $18 billion in armaments? Maybe they needed some maintenance, eh? https://freebeacon.com/national-security/white-house-wont-say-how-it-spent-1-billion-in-taliban-controlled-afghanistan/ When the State decides it no longer needs oversight, you are no longer a citizen. There should be a congressional oversight committee that monitors the FBI and they should be privy to everything!! The committee must be 50/50 Republican and Democrat with each party picking their own members. AND the FBI needs to change their rules and be more transparent to Americans and more honest. They need to do far less in secret and be required to report to the people perhaps with a weekly press conference with no time limit; every question gets answered. I assume that the FBI has an inspector general but they need a stronger one and he should be independent of party politics.
DeSantis 2024? Think Again.
QUOTE: In a rigged electoral system, no Republican candidate, not even DeSantis, can be expected to win a national election. DeSantis cruised to victory in Florida because, as governor of the state, he had the means and the authority to ensure a clean election. But he would be helpless against a massive crime organization, aka the Democrat Party, which effectively controls the electoral infrastructure, the physical apparatus, the paid loyalty of election workers, and the federal agencies that oversee the process. If the system is not repaired and made answerable to the people, there will never be a Republican president again. https://pjmedia.com/columns/david-solway-2/2022/11/11/desantis-2024-think-again-n1645202 Enough Trump? NO
Raheem Kassam on the Jenna Ellis show. Midterms and Donald Trump...The elephant in the room. Trump is like the punchline to the original shaggy dog story: "Not that shaggy!" We're sick to death of the same old-same old with nothing ever getting done besides the relentless creep of ever more expensive and ever more intrusive government, we claim we want something different, but we're never going to get something different if we demand perfection and the sameness out of our candidates. The question isn't "Is Trump perfect?" but "Is Trump preferable to the other thousands of career politicians on offer?" There's no chance Trumpism and the reformation of the GOP proceeds without Trump. Exhibit A would be Lisa Murkowski. Exhibit B would be Susan Collins. Exhibit C would be Arlen Specter. Case closed.
Imagine what Trump could have accomplished if the FBI, DOJ, CIA, Republicans had been on his side instead of being anti-American. Imagine how much easier it would have been for him to govern with an honest and unbiased press. Imagine that we wouldn't today be looking at WW III, possibly nuclear war and quite likely our military unable to win either one. We are screwed. Obama did it, look at what he did secretly and our press corp hid from us. Obama's third term under Biden is the icing on the traitorous left wing cake. I honestly do not think we will survive this mess. And the never Trumpers and anti-Americans are whining about mean tweets!!!
Here's what I'm whining about: Trump was in office four years, he knew the score, and he completely failed to do anything constructive to fix the deep state. He couldn't even manage to staff a campaign with the ability and agility to outfox his opponents.
Then he did nothing constructive after losing the counted votes in November 2020, attacks people on his own side more than he attacks the loony leftist opposition. He's just like the Never Trumpers in a mirror image, they are always turning their fire on those who should be allies, while their true opponents just pick up the pieces. Sure Trump fights, but he picks the wrong fights, and he loses. He got lucky in November 2016 Electoral College but lost the popular vote but bragged about his awesome landslide instead of governing well and picking quality people who he wouldn't throw under the bus eventually. All talk, no action. I pretty much disagree with everything you said. But let's for the sake of the argument say you are right. So are you telling me we would be better off if Hillary won? Are you saying the sleepy Joe is preferable to Trump? If you answered yes to either of those you are a fool.
OK, I'll give you an easy question. What politician could have accomplished as much for America as Trump did in his four years given the massive effort to thwart him? Yeah! You can throw out any name you like you would still be wrong. Trump may be showing sings of weariness from the constant attacks that no president or ex-president had to deal with. They are still to this day trying to destroy him and his family. Why? Because they are afraid of him he is not a member of the club and he exposed the club for what they are. The closest comparison I can see in history to what is being done to Trump is Christ himself. Pick your side carefully. Uh, sorry. No comparisons to Christ, please. The problem is not only those who cannot see any good in Trump, but also those who refuse to see a downside. Both of these perspectives leave those of us who voted for Trump two times, but who refuse to see him as the Messiah, completely cold. He is driving us away with his unprovoked attacks on DeSantis and, of all people, Youngkin.
"He is driving us away..."
A house divided shall not stand. Is that your goal? I like DeSantis and Youngkin. I hope the rise in the Republican party. But again I'll say name anyone in the Republican party who worked harder than Trump to make America great again. Anyone! There are some good Republicans but they don't really do to much. Trump was tireless. He did more good in his short term than all of the Republicans put together since 2000. But here is the kicker. Trump has tens of millions of followers. If you kick Trump to the curb you will lose many of those people. THAT was always the goal of the Democrats, that's why they have crucified Trump. Their fond hope is that the weaker Trump supporters jump ship and help them do that. THAT is you!

I don't worship the preacher and I don't worship the politician. Only God offers salvation. Trump is no more a savior than Ronald Reagan, although both received my votes when they mattered. As for my weakness, that's your opinion. I am quite comfortable with my religious beliefs and my politics, and I never mix the two.

Worship has nothing to do with it. You injected that into the conversation presumably because you cannot refute the points made. This is about common sense and making America great again. We are going to be destroyed by our current politicians, it is not "IF" but when. Trump interrupted that path of destruction but when the Democrats stole the election in 2020 they doubled down on the path to destruction. It may be inevitable at this point and yet people still argue that Trump was rude or wrote mean tweets. Are you blind to what is going on? Get over his unfiltered honesty and look at what is happening right in front of your eyes.

No, you brought religion into the conversation. Read your next-to-last sentence in your first comment. Then read the first sentence of my comment. Now who's deflecting? Who introduced religion? I will not be commenting further.

I never mentioned religion and this has nothing to do with religion.

Food Safety Aspects of Edible Insects
QUOTE: The article outlined various food safety aspects of edible insects, stating that the commodity’s microbiological and anti-nutritive characteristics are of greatest concern. In general, research has demonstrated high counts of microorganisms to be present in fresh insects; however, with the appropriate thermal treatment, microbial loads can be eliminated. . . . Other potential safety aspects of edible insects outlined in the article include the presence of pesticides, heavy metals, mycotoxins, and allergens. https://www.food-safety.com/articles/8126-food-safety-aspects-of-edible-insects |
