Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Plastics recycling failed-- Could it be that the reason is that the market for ugly, gray, peeling, plastic outside furniture has become saturated?
I stopped separating out plastic and glass years ago. There's no point to it, it ends up in the landfill anyway. Who do they think they're kidding? Actually, there's no rational reason why we should not burn it and generate electricity from the heat. Modern incinerators emit little but CO2 and H2O, both benign and essential for life. The big issue is that the largest source of "recycleable" plastic is food containers. These can't be recycled into new food containers because the temperatures required to process the plastics do not allow for a "5-Log" pathogen kill, and any chemical process or increased temperatures that would severly degrade the polymers. Reusing thes polymers in the textile industry requires use of plasticizers, which are now considered by many to be hazardous for even skin contact.
What you stated sounded very informed and explicit. But it is untrue. These plastics can easily be ground up, washed, then heated and extruded into products we use and need. A common example is plastic "lumber" used for decks. In third world countries like the Philippines (my apology Philippines) 1 & 2 man shops do this for a living.
The problem in the U.S. can be summed up this way: 1. The recycling is a mix of fake and real. It is mostly political to make it seem like the politicians are doing something. But the tougher recycling problems are literally dumped in secret. 2. Our poor don't work. They are paid not to work and if they foolishly try to find work or get a side gig like the poor in the Philippines for example we dock their pay/welfare. So no one will choose to do it. There's simply not enough demand for the alternative products you suggest to warrant widescale recycling efforts. A quick search of Home Depot's website shows a roughly 20% premium for the recycled composite deck boards over standard pressure treated pine. Until you can bring the princing into par, recycling doesn't make sense.
THAT I agree with. Hence the 1-2 man shop with next to zero overhead. If you do it as a Home Depot sub with employees and a building and trucks and ... it will be too expensive. If you do it in your garage or backyard and go to the dump or recycling place yourself and grind it up in a home made grinder and extrude it in a cheap looks like it is home made extruder you can make a $20 product of $1.00.
One of the bloggers I follow is an ex-pat living in the PI who is running a number of small businesses out of his house to support his family. He does exactly this and other things too.

They're somewhat different products. Composite decking requires very little maintenance compared to wood decking and will usually last years longer. The long term cost will be consequently lower. https://www.decks.com/how-to/articles/comparing-composite-vs-wood-decking

Huh. I thought I could get a climate troll or two spun up by talking about "trash to fuel" as a sensible use for discarded plastics. No takers after 24 hours! I have to admit I'm a little disappointed.
That AOC video was refreshing. When the Left and Right both agree that you're a self-interested dingbat, well...
Supposing the Republicans re-take the House, my concern is that they'll squander their victory with endless "investigations". Rather than fixing the many problems facing our Country, all we'll get is "Sound and fury signifying nothing".
Why so cynical? With such conservative stalwarts as Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, Lindsey Graham, Lix Cheney, and Mitt Romney, I can't imagine that the outcome of this election is going to be the same old same old. It's not like the GOP has a history of doing little when they gain power other than ratifying Democratic gains and increasing the size and cost of government.
I'm glad that to see the dropping test scores are showing strong evidence that the push for equity is bearing fruit. In a generation we may yet achieve the perfect equity of illiteracy and innumeracy for all, and won't that be a glorious day?

But we know why the BYU 'racial epithet' hoax was created. It was debunked the day after it happened, and then multiple investigations by different police departments and campus officials took a couple of weeks to scrutinize all the evidence to make sure they had it right. It didn't happen; the hoax was created to further a political campaign.
The young woman's godmother, Lesa Pamplin, is responsible for the hoax. She's experienced at doing this, a lawyer in Tarrant County, Tx (Ft Worth) that is running for office. She's had similar hoaxes uncovered before and has attempted to have cases dismissed, and judges re-assigned, by using the same kind of tactics. She's a race hustler to all appearances, with a documented past of ugly anti-white racist behavior of her own. She attempted to use this incident to boost her campaign for county circuit judge, before it became so thoroughly dis-proven. And now of course, she's a 'victim' from all the fallout from her public rants on the campaign trail and social media, while still disputing the investigation results. I encourage anyone considering sending their children to a public school to work as a substitute teacher in the local classrooms to see what it's really like. I'm a retired grandmother of 3 toddlers. I've been working in the local school system as a substitute teacher this year. I decided today that I'm going to encourage my children, the parents of my grandchildren, to spend some time in the classroom before they enroll their children in kindergarten. If I were a parent today, I would never allow my child to spend all day in the environment that I've observed lately and I'm going to do everything possible to convince my children not to send their children there.
I hope you have a ton of money you can help with their expenses for private school. Many people don't like the public school systems but just can't afford t send their kids to private schools. Catholic schools are closing in our state and even they cost money.
JC, It doesn't take a ton of money to avoid the public school system. You can live on a shoestring if it's your priority. Way back when I was raising my children, and we lived pretty much below the poverty line, we sent our children to Catholic School. We did without almost everything else, but schooling was my #1 priority. Those were years when I used to think that having a new kitchen sponge would be a luxury!
Sounds like how I grew up in the '50s. We did without air conditioning, getting the TV fixed for months at a time, couldn't join the Scouts because the uniforms cost too much, etc, but my Mother found the money to send my brother and me to Catholic school without tuition relief. The thrifty habits I learned then have stayed with me to this day, though I draw the line at saving used aluminum foil and rubber bands.
Good for you. And good advice. If your children can't afford private schools, encourage them to have the wife stay home and educate the kids themselves.
Possibly the most significant thing that has happened this year is the coup in England. Boris Johnson resigned because he was forced out. That was set up by the NWO. Liz Truss was given the job and that was not what the NWO wanted so there was a soft coup and Liz Truss is out and the NWO figurehead Sunak replaced her. The citizens of England have lost their country, literally. Watch carefully now as a whirlwind of changes engulfs the U.K. They will be re-merged with the EU and the English people will be "replaced" with new citizens who will be more malleable and controllable. While we were all distracted with the "Crown" the country was stolen.
The hate hoax page is growing and eventually will need more server space.

AND, they stated in their opinion that the vaccine does not prevent getting covid or spreading covid. THIS is a game changer!! If this is held up if appealed it will allow lawsuits including (I believe) for anyone arrested or fined for failing to follow the various mandates associated with covid and the vaccine. This may spawn more trial lawyer ads than Camp Lejune does. Corporations want customers to think that buying products is a form of activism.
In this they followed the music industry’s promotion of corporate bands as “rebellion against The Man.” Sell the people what they want. |
