Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

'Spectator: The last of the Covidians - How should we treat those who refuse to acknowledge the pandemic is over?'
The same way they treated us "anti-vaxxers." Just remember, when they say 'Plant-based' sustainable food, they want you to think about plants with green leaves - but you should be thinking about plants with smokestacks, and processing lines, workers, and effluent streams. There's a reason 'Beyond Meat' is having problems.
As for the holy water story, did that come out in the Babylon Bee-cup? 'Christian influencer gets holy water breast implants'
I hope Dracula never has sex with her. Salt: The FDA and the CDC should be trying to give us the best information and advice possible. They shouldn't "regulate" they should inform. They have failed us and most recently failed us terribly. You literally cannot trust them. Many of these simple health issues are prone to biases and ignorance. Activists seek positions where they can influence decisions based on their biases. We all suffer the results of this lack of leadership and oversight from our government.
Everybody knows salt is bad for you, as surely as they know tomatoes are poisonous, eggs are bad, lots of carbs are good for you, and maggots are spontaneously generated by dead animals. Why would you need studies to prove these things?

First Amendment anyone? And how about Paypal?
PayPal Still Threatens $2500 Fines for Promoting "Discriminatory" "Intolerance" (Even if Not "Misinformation") The Volokh Conspiracy QUOTE: One of the violations listed, according to the agreement, is that … "[users] may not use the PayPal service for activities that … involve the sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials that, in PayPal's sole discretion … promote misinformation." But it appears that the policy continues to be in effect for other speech, according to PayPal's official Acceptable Use Policy, last updated Sept. 20, 2021: Violation of this Acceptable Use Policy constitutes a violation of the PayPal User Agreement and may subject you to damages, including liquidated damages of $2,500.00 U.S. dollars per violation, which may be debited directly from your PayPal account(s) as outlined in the User Agreement (see "Restricted Activities and Holds" section of the PayPal User Agreement). Prohibited activities You may not use the PayPal service for activities that … relate to … the promotion of hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory or the financial exploitation of a crime …. And the cited "Restricted Activities and Holds" policy makes clear that "Actions We May Take if You Engage in Any Restricted Activities" are determined based on PayPal making the decision "in our sole discretion," if Paypal "believe[s] that you've engaged in any of these activities." https://reason.com/volokh/2022/10/09/paypal-still-threatens-2500-fines-for-promoting-discriminatory-intolerance-even-if-not-misinformation/ Judge, Jury, Executioner.
I've lived without them for 60 plus years I think I can go a few more. I canceled my account when I heard about this. There are still news sites that claim that PayPal has backtracked on their fascism. Even if they did completely backtrack on that feature of their Acceptable Use Policy I don't want to have anything to do with someone who would even consider such a thing. I hope they go bankrupt.
I closed my account yesterday, asking them to Delete my data and telling them in the 'Other' feedback category that my reason was because I could not in good conscience do business with a company having their policies and attitudes. I was sent an email last night telling me that they are 'working on your request' and also saying that it may take up to 30 days for them to 'let you know the status' - whatever that means.
The only way to communicate with these modern tyrants appears to be via lawsuit or the wallet. The Chinese leaders are usually right upfront to their own people about what they believe, knowing that few outsiders speak Mandarin or are interested in translating it for their publics.
"How should we treat those who refuse to acknowledge the pandemic is over?"
As long as they don't bother other people, leave them be. They're morons. The problem is that was a test. Call it fascism 1.0 or mind control or whatever. There will be a fascism 2.0 ad infinitum. Why? Because it worked. They used it to steal an election, change the voting rules in the House, hide things they did to infringe on our rights and much more. Things will get worse.
re: holy-water filled store-bought milk jugs
There's nothing like an angry, anti-Christian satire site. They don't even seem to understand what they are poking fun at. Why would a Christian influencer (Evangelical) have anything to do with priests or holy water? The joke doesn't even make sense. The authors bio: Andrew Hall escaped a childhood of religious indoctrination and is now a non-miserable human being.
I have my doubts about being a non-miserable human being. Re: California makes it illegal for doctors to disagree with politicians
The most concerning part of this law isn't the law itself it's the reality it describes. It's clearly unconstitutional for multiple reasons. The legislature and executive all voted for it. Everyone involved is proud and completely unashamed. It's perfectly arbitrary so government can decide winners and losers. And if struck down, no politician will be punished. I wish doctors were organized and went on strike the day the law was signed. If they manage to enforce it, they will get the doctors they deserve. Just as they get the politicians they deserve.
