Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Is "first to market" a failing strategy? Business Pundit

We did not give Columbia Pres. Lee Bollinger credit for these words:

“This is not complicated,” Bollinger said in an October 6 statement, released two days after student protestors disrupted a talk by the founder of the Minuteman Project, Jim Gilchrist. “Students and faculty have rights to invite speakers to the campus. Others have rights to hear them. Those who wish to protest have rights to do so. No one, however, shall have the right or the power to use the cover of protest to silence speakers. This is a sacrosanct and inviolable principle.”

However, I have heard nothing about punishment yet. Update at Inside Higher Ed

And I give Bollinger no credit for that statement. What else would he say? And given that the campus police just stood there and did nothing -- not to mention that the College Republican had to pay for them, when the university should have provided security -- the actions of Columbia speak far louder than anything Bollinger or any other university bureaucrat could say.
