Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I think spontaneously in that headline needs Dr Evil air quotes.
The end of the renewables craze is near? Not by a long shot, because it is indeed a craze. A 30-second glance at what is required for solar and wind to replace other forms of energy shows that it's mathematically and physically and economically impossible and yet many people support this sort of nonsense. I'm certain that they also believe in perpetual motion machines, water-powered engines, free lunches, and astrology. They're crazy and you can't reason somebody out of a belief they didn't reason themselves into.
"Why is the opprobrium toward the British Empire so vehement,"
Because it is the thing now to hate white people and you don't get much more white than English. QUOTE: Why is the opprobrium toward the British Empire so vehement, when it is less likely to rise from the grave than the Russian, Ottoman or Persian, none of which are quite as dead? Our response to the claim about the English language is here. As to this particular claim, there is vehement opprobrium against Russian, Ottoman, and Persian imperialism. Just ask the Ukrainians, Poles, or Baltic people about their history with Russia. Arab countries are united in their opposition to Iranian expansionism. As for the Ottomans, there have been bans in Arabic countries of the hagiography of the founding of the Ottoman Empire, Diriliş: Ertuğrul, even fatwas against the show, and alarm that Türkiye intends to reestablish its hegemony over its neighbors. Looping back to the subject of language, it's apparently an English-centric view that sees only British colonialism as being subject to opprobrium. QUOTE: Modern language professor Uju Anya wrote: “I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying. May her pain be excruciating.” Uju Anya is an “anti-racist” teacher and associate professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While Anya's tweet was uncharitable, keep in mind that she was born in Kenya, a country which saw a vicious response by the British under Elizabeth II to the Mau Mau uprising and independence movement. It's notable that the writer left out that important fact. There's a reason why Faulkner said, "The past is never dead. It's not even past." And yet the fact remains, that the kind of person that would make such an opportunistic, crass, ignorant, unsympathetic and unwarranted attack on a dead person's memory is not the type of person that should be teaching anything to anybody. I am grateful that she has revealed herself as one that has not been improved by the opportunities she has been gifted with - her putative students now have a choice they weren't aware of before.
Aggie: And yet the fact remains, that the kind of person that would make such an opportunistic, crass, ignorant, unsympathetic and unwarranted attack on a dead person's memory is not the type of person that should be teaching anything to anybody.
Except that the attack wasn't ignorant or unwarranted, albeit, it was crass. It helped educate people that Britain's record is not universally seen as positive. (See comment about the English-centric view above.) The tweet was deleted. "Britain's record is not universally seen as positive."
Whose is??? There are so many things in British history that are extremely positive. Almost every country that Britain "colonized" enjoys many benefits that are left over from that period. If you put all of Britian's positive and negatives on a scale the positives would heavily outweigh the negatives. Who then would you look up to today? China?

OneGuy: There are so many things in British history that are extremely positive.
Sure, but those on the receiving end of the negative aspects may have a jaundiced view of the British monarchy in power at the time. With regards to Kenya, Elizabeth II reigned during the time Britain committed atrocities against the people there. OneGuy: Almost every country that Britain "colonized" enjoys many benefits that are left over from that period. What have the Romans ever done for us?

"Britain committed atrocities"
Sure, who hasn't??? But all of this is out of context. Often the other side committed atrocities towards British citizens first. Often what Britain was guilty of in their colonies was to disarm and displace a violent system that treated their own subjects far worse than the British did under British rule. If the argument is simply that no one has any business coming to another's country and exploiting it then please go to our own border and help them stop the invasion of colonizers coming across our borders. Name any country where they have never colonized or invaded or took control of disputed land. Even the Indians, North America's 1st (and 2nd and 3rd) people, invaded and pushed out and enslaved the prior people. Why not hate those blacks in South Africa who came from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, and Namibia to invade South Africa and then committed atrocities on the South Africans.

Sure. They should just lay there and enjoy it. Gee whiz. Britain was subjugating other countries. Of course, people are going to resist. The Americans did. Did you even read our comments?

There are many legitimate reasons to criticize Britain with regards to their colonialism. Did you even read our comments?

Incorrect. According to multiple sources Uju Anya was born in Nigeria.
SK: According to multiple sources Uju Anya was born in Nigeria.
You are correct. Nigeria was also a British colony. One ought not conflate everything with racism. I'm a very white Irishman, and I don't remember the British Empire with any great fondness. If there were other nations that were treated like the Irish were, particularly at the time of the Penal Laws, I couldn't blame them for being critical to at least some degree.
"I'm a very white Irishman, and I don't remember the British Empire with any great fondness."
The Battle of the Boyne was in 1690 (332 years ago). the Penal Laws were largely removed by 1793 (229 years ago), with those few remaining struck down in 1829 as a result of Catholic Emancipation (193 years ago). The Famine ended by 1852 (170 years ago). The Easter Rising was in 1916 (106 years ago). The Irish Free State was established in 1922 (100 years ago in December) and the Republic in 1949 (73 years ago). Grow up and get a life. But... but... then, what could he cry about and demand attention for all the mean things said and done those 100's of years ago...

The troubles just ended in 1998 with the Good Friday Agreement brokered by U.S. President Clinton. (Brexit threatens the basis of the agreement.) There's a reason why Faulkner said, "The past is never dead. It's not even past." "The troubles just ended in 1998"
Just to keep the record clear which religious group was it causing those troubles?

Both groups were involved in violence. Colonialism was at the root of the troubles. (Brexit is threatening the political stability in Ireland.) The claim that people forget the past, or that problems just magically disappear is contradicted by numerous examples in history, including the U.S., which spent generations dealing with the aftermath of its own civil war.

So the IRA bombs and kills people and you conflate that with a parade once a year that objects to the bombing and killing? It is also worth pointing out that catholic priests worked with the IRA to bomb and kill people.

Thanks for the history lesson.
Your condescension doesn't alter the strangeness of the admiration of some Americans for a dead empire against whom you were the first to rebel. You are quick to make assumptions. I am not an American.
I merely marvel at those who can hold political grudges long, long past their sell-by date.

UK covid jabs risky... As more data is revealed and more whistleblowers come forward there will be more and more lawsuits. There will be retribution for the mandates.
Oregon: You don’t need to write, which means you can’t read, or do math, to graduate High School. This is a good example of the Limbaugh axiom of the bigotry of low expectations. Something the British Empire of olde, would never put up with. America use to not put up with it either. But the progressives have a different take on things. As the great VDH writes, “ We went mad then because we easily could. And we could not because we were poor and oppressed, but because we were rich and bored.” Rich and bored. Instead of looking to a bright future, pushing children to ever greater heights for humanity, the Left, fully in control of education, indoctrinates youth in perversion. Not only perversion of the body, but perversion of the mind, and most dispiriting, the soul. Instead of using history as a learning tool, it is used to be hyper critical of everything that built the twin pillars of societal greatness: The British Empire and the United States of America. Note that most of the latest studies programs, begin with the word critical. Note also, that these PhD’s are never critical of any colture but the white culture.
What they want is to end merit because the various POC groups find that they cannot compete on merit. One could argue endlessly on why they cannot compete on merit but it won't change the salient fact that they still cannot compete on merit. So in their mind the solution is to rid ourselves of all measure of merit and hire and reward based on quotas. This may not matter much for store clerks and construction workers but it will be very important in the critical fields, like doctors, nurses and teachers. In a short time every thinking person will have to have that talk with their child and explain to them that because of a failed system it is more likely than not that a doctor who is a POC probably cannot do their job well and may even kill you, quite accidently of course, so do not go to doctors of the POC persuasion. That would be bad, of course and the entire sham would become a self-fulfilling prophecy of racism. Sadly the people who are pushing for this are not critical thinkers and therefore cannot foresee the foolishness of their actions.
There is evidence that Gov Brown and others are simply using DIE as a smokescreen to ditch a test that was never intended to be a graduation requirement but does highlight how poor performing Oregon schools are. (Journal of Free Black Thought on SubStack)
There is an epidemic of myocarditis in covid vaccinated people and it is getting worse by the day. A year ago saying that would get you banned from the social media sites as repeating disinformation but they knew a year ago that it was true and were covering it up. When are we going to get a full investigation into what our own government health agencies have intentionally done to harm us and then covered up???
They even wrote a song about it https://rumble.com/v1je8mr-a-song-about-jab-deaths.html LOL
Biden Quietly Loosens Tech Export Rules to Chinese Communist Firms Just Days After Huawei Lobbyist’s Brother Joins White House.
QUOTE: The news comes after months of wrangling by Huawei lobbyists, those of whom include leading anti-Trump and pro-Biden individuals, such as Trump impeachment support Stephen Binhak, and the brothers of both Biden advisor Steve Richetti and newly minted Biden climate czar John Podesta. Indeed, Reuters reported earlier in 2022 that the Chinese Communist-linked firm had paid Podesta’s brother Tony a whopping $1 million to represent the firm’s interests with the Biden White House. https://thenationalpulse.com/2022/09/12/biden-loosens-tech-export-restrictions-on-china/ No big deal as long as the Big Guy gets his 10%. " The fall of Los Angeles - The ‘progressive’ elites have run the city of the future into the dirt."
Dirt IS the future. I think what the Democrats are trying to do with all these attacks on Republicans/ultra MAGAs is that they are hoping to incite a few retaliations. This would play into their 2022 election game just the way that they want it to. I suspect that the FBI is out there trolling Right wing sites to try to stir up someone to act out. I suspect that their rhetoric will ramp up by October.
