Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: Finnish economist
The WEF read the same articles about the relationship between food and anarchy that the author read. They plan to take advantage of the chaos to take control. DC councilmember: Abbott and Ducey have "turned us into a border town"!
Walk a mile in my shoes. Er, cowboy boots. BD asks: "What good would punishment do in this case?"
Perhaps you are trying to stir things up, because I cannot believe you are really this obtuse. The reason why we have, or had, laws against violent crime and prison for those who violate these laws is not because putting offenders in prison brings the dead back to life or mends the injuries of the victims. It is because (formerly at least) we as a society find criminal behavior to be repugnant and unacceptable, so we do our best to remove those who act criminally from our midst-- sometimes permanently. Although violent crlminals are known to be impulsive and weak in anticipating the results of their behavior, even most of them get the message that crime is risky IF punishment is reasonably severe and certain. So the specific problem in Memphis and every other Democrat-run hellhole city is that CRIMINALS ARE NOT PUNISHED, so they simply go ahead and do whatever they feel like doing, making those places unlivable for others. Many who suffer from common sense recognize this and find the tolerance of many for politicians, judges, and DAs who do not to be inexplicable. Now, does that help? regards Memphis shooting. He didn't serve the full 3 years of his previous sentence, if he had, all those people this week would be alive. Not sure if that may also apply to the Memphis jogger raped and murdered.
Another point is that typically these criminals have committed horrible crimes and the DA bargains it down to shoplifting or jaywalking. Then they get out and surprise, surprise they commit horrible crimes again. And to rub salt in the wound when the MSM reports on these criminals they cite only the charge they were convicted of and ignore what they bargained their way out of, which makes it sound like they were minor criminals and who would have suspected they would kill someone.
The future looks bright.

My feelings with respect to her magesty's passing is that while it can be debated whether kings and queens are still needed in the world, or indeed ever were, if you're going to have a queen, she was probably the kind of queen you should have.
Very well said. From all that I have read about her, she was a wonderful person. A rarity in world leaders.
I don't believe anything that's written about the progress of the Ukraine-Russia war, not a word of it.
We're meant to believe that the brave souls in this tiny country, with it's economy about a 10th of Russia's, are going to prevail against the Russian manufacturing base. It's not going to happen, not on this current trajectory. Ukraines' peacetime GDP is around $150-$200 billion. We've already sent over, in 8 months, well in excess of a year's GDP trying to prop them up - while Russia plods along and cashes in on Europe's hydrocarbon demand. If Russia is padding its coffers with hydrocarbon wealth while Europe spends on a foreign war and on unusually high energy costs, all while internally attacking their ability to grow food based on climate hysteria, who is the net benefactor of that transaction? Who is in the better position at the end of winter? How about when all the foreign aid is sent with no financial controls, no rights of audit, no guarantees that it will actually be spent on the war>? All of this reporting is just covering tracks so the American voters aren't thinking too hard about it, come November. But by spring, my bet would be that Europeans have had just about enough of this crap. I don't know how the Ukraine war will end, how bad it will be or how effective the defense will be. My position is that the Ukrainians have an absolute right and duty to defend their country and their families and that Russia is wrong to invade neighboring countries and if we let them get away with this one that Eastern Europe is next. Even if in the end Russia wins and takes all or most of Ukraine it will still be the right thing to have fought them tooth and nail. Russia is getting their ass kicked, partly because of incompetence and partly because it is easier to defend than to attack in rough mixed terrain.
What I am not in favor of is depleting our arms and ammunition and not restoring them immediately. We are putting ourselves at risk by this failure to resupply. I wonder if you are able to use swear words in the US military? Are you allowed to have a love of your country, in the US military?
I saw the Queen once, back in June 1979. We were in London on a ten day vacation trip prior to leaving deployment in West Germany, and we went to see the Queen's annual birthday parade. She wore a red jacket (like the jackets they wear on fox hunts), riding a horse surrounded by her Royal Guards, and I was surprised at how tiny she was. It was only a few seconds as she went by, but she wasn't smiling, and I got the impression she would rather have been anywhere else. It was the next year, if I remember right, that the IRA blew up the parade and killed some bystanders, Guards, and horses, and I don't think there were any more birthday parades after that.
FWIW--she was riding side saddle for the birthday parade. I don't know if you have ever tried to ride side saddle, but I can tell you it is "bloody awful"!! No wonder she wasn't smiling. It was also during "the troubles" and there may have already been rumor about blowing up the parade. Mostly I think it's that dang saddle!!
When you look at the picture of the Queen with the new PM (picture on top of today's MF), what do you see?
I see two things out of the ordinary: 1. The right hand which she has stretched out to shake with the new PM is very, very blue. She had been receiving serious needle treatment--intravenous of some sort. 2. They have her posed with a black winter purse--in the living room? That purse was not meant to be worn with that outfit and certainly would never have been hanging off of her arm while welcoming the new PM in her living room. Just sayin . . . I watched the live stream from the time of the original announcement through the two hours they were waiting for "the family" to arrive. She had died at least a half hour before their arrival and BBC did not mention it until after "the arrival". BBC had a very hard time staying on top of things yesterday. . .It seems that 10 Downing St. heard about her death first. One of the commentators sitting at the studio desk had a tear in his eye and looked sadder than he had 15 minutes earlier--he already knew and still they pretended not to have heard. They made the formal announcement after the flags were at half/staff. Honestly. 10 Downing Street Must have heard about her death before the BBC. For over fifty years, the protocol has been that the heads of the commonwealth and the UK have to be notified before news agencies, including Auntie BBC. Oddly, governments are more important than the People.
As for the bruise....that is nothing more or less than I would expect to see on a 96 year old person who is frail. I can do that to my father simply by helping him up out of a chair. BBC did finally report that 10 Downing had had the info at 4:30 PM--half an hour before the family arrived.
Parasite Study Gives Bad News To Bug-Cuisine Activists
QUOTE: Parasitic developmental forms were detected in 244 (81.33%) out of 300 (100%) examined insect farms. In 206 (68.67%) of the cases, the identified parasites were pathogenic for insects only; in 106 (35.33%) cases, parasites were potentially parasitic for animals; and in 91 (30.33%) cases, parasites were potentially pathogenic for humans. https://clashdaily.com/2022/09/parasite-study-gives-bad-news-to-the-bug-cuisine-activists/ Of course the media want to talk about Trump rather than Biden, nothing Biden says really matters because he lies so much and nobody knows if Joe is aware of what he's saying. And it's probably going to work, too, given that the media will lie as much as Joe.
Hysterics by apparatchiks over a few thousand future CPUSA dependents arriving in the sanctuary district imperial swamp are almost as funny as hyperventilating over Brandon's third rate V for Vendetta fweedom fwies speech.
Reading about ingrates bashing the queen on social media and even gloating over it is LOL coming from a generation of useful idiot minion WOKE scolds updating their chronicle of nothingness. Did anyone else run into this piece today or yesterday? The DC FBI once again.
