We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I have never seen 40 flushes in one day, whether hunting in New England or in Canada. Ten flushes on a great day, and you miss a few of them. Blame it on the trees.
I do not intend to shoot another Woodcock. Just because...
This what it is like, with a great dog and strong legs. Most dogs are not this great:
I hunt pheasants, chukar, & quail every year. It is a great experience to watch the dogs, & each bird I shoot at is a thrill, either hit or miss. And I eat the tasty things!
Grew up in that N. Wisconsin woods. Retrieved the partridge for my dad until I was old enough to shoot. The hand-me-down gun was a single shot 16 ga. I still have it and there a few more 16's in my safe.
