We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I find the old lute & theorbo music from that period highly relaxing and pleasant to listen to while working. Collected works of Sylvius Leopold Weiss and JS Bach - no better focus music when woodworking, reloading, during tractor therapy, etc.
The Caravaggio painting The Musicians features a rare bird from the lute family.
There is a funny meme of rapper Notorious BIG in vintage garb holding one with the caption gimme the lute.

It's a 12-string guitar with a bunch of open bass strings in addition. Except with the G string tuned down to F# for lutes.
There are extra courses on some regular lutes too, used as open strings with whatever tuning suits the piece but without the power that a longer string would give. All the fingering is done on the highest six courses and you just sort of remember the bass strings when one comes up.
