Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re Sri Lanka, look to the Chinese to be benefiting, Maybe the 1/6 committee should see what a real insurrection looks like.
"The Biden administration has been misguided not unguided."
No one is going to fix all of this. The destruction of our economy and government institutions was intentional. Climate change - I'm actually reading articles that are referring to the ongoing climate "catastrophe" as if it's fact. Not only is climate change very speculative (and based on dubious scientific claims) there is no catastrophe as of yet. The overt dishonesty pushes me more toward believing the whole thing is a scam.
What does "need" have to do with it? Great question. We shouldn't allow people to reframe the debate. It's assumed to be a right, one protected wholly by the Constitution. Any breech of that is illegal. Period. Why does anyone need the latest electronic gadgetry? Why do you need a new car? Why does America need the democrat party? Why does anyone need the thousands of bureaucrats that line their pockets from my tax dollars? I need oxygen, clean water and food. I need small affordable, less intrusive government, to get the hell out of the way.
The world could have as little as 10 weeks left in its global stockpiles of wheat, according to one food expert. But the U.S. turns hundreds of tons of corn into ethanol everyday. Interestingly the process from start to finish to put ethanol in your car uses 130% more energy (mostly gas, diesel and NG) that it produces as ethanol. It is a net energy loser but the program exists because corn farmers vote and contribute money to congress elections. But the time is perfect to end this wasteful program. Today, corn is worth more as food than it is as fuel. End the ethanol program and use corn for food.
I reaily agree that ethanol production consumes more energy than it produces. It's just physics.
However I have never seen a number as high as 130%. Can you provide a link to support that 130% figure? I cannot. It is from something I read 7-8 years ago and I never kept the source info.
Here is one analysis that is highly critical
https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2001/08/ethanol-corn-faulted-energy-waster-scientist-says There is also no mention of corrosion, which is facilitated b/c EtOH absorbs water. Destruction of pipelines, storage tanks and engines by corrosion will always cost more than EtOH can ever save. Amusing that zachriel comments even as it just shows she knows nothing about the subject. feeblemind: I reaily agree that ethanol production consumes more energy than it produces. It's just physics.
Energy return on investment (EROI) for ethanol is the ratio of energy in a liter of ethanol to the nonrenewable energy required to make it. Ethanol production represents a net gain in energy (due to the captured solar energy), but the EROI is probably less than two, so the EROI is not particularly good. In California the fire fighters are going the extra mile to save the Sequoias. They have set up water pumps and sprinklers to protect them. Good, right! But IMHO now everyone who lost a home to a forest fire should be allowed to sue the state. If they didn't set up pumps and sprinklers to save homes and lives than they were derelict in their duties.

What is the vaccination ratio of sick children to healthy children? I'm afraid that too many people have invested far too much in the Green Energy scam for it ever to be reversed.
The "people" invested in the green energy scam happens to be the taxpayer. It is only the political mandates that drive the programs. End the programs and the taxpayer will be happy to not pay for the green energy wasteland. Those that gain from the scam do so through tax credits or by being the chosen political grifters at the receiving end of government grants.
"NYC puts out PSA on what to do in the event of a nuclear attack"
I'm sure everything is fine! It's not as though the world is going mad around us and that NY City would be every enemies prime target. Just remember if you see Manhattan go up in a mushroom cloud go back into your 3rd floor apartment and shut the door and wait for the authorities to tell you what to do next. It's fine! The DHS has put up a similar message;
https://www.ready.gov/nuclear-explosion The question is, why have they done it now? So are you saying that the new PSA that NY City just produced and distributed is Trump's fault? Are you that effing stupid?
JustMe: So are you saying that the new PSA that NY City just produced and distributed is Trump's fault?
We were clearly querying feeblemind about the DHS message from 2018.

I agree that rights do not depend on needs, but I do appreciate him addressing the needs nonetheless.
But for a right, the question of need not come up. You can have an AR-15 because you like the sound of it, or think it looks cool, or it reminds you of your grandfather's back porch for some reason. The shoe is on the other foot. What is the need to forbid you? Ahhhhhh, Europe! The STUPID was STRONG in these ones!
