Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The whole idea that a principled conservative would object to men being forced to bear responsibility for children they "father" in the most narrow, biological sense of that term, is to me just evidence that they have never discussed the issue with a principled conservative, or have an entirely misanthropic view of "maleness".
For decades the left has tipped the scale to benefit women and harm men in the issue of children. The social and legal mess you see today around fairness in family court is a direct result of that bias and misandry. Until the law and the social construct comes back to equality and fairness this problem cannot and will not be fixed.
'TikTok Trend Has Angry Leftist Women Threatening Hookup Sex Will Die Now That Roe Is Overturned'
Judging from some of their pictures, unwanted pregnancies are just about the last thing any of them have to worry about. File this under "Threat's that you don't need to worry about"

https://pagetwo.completecolorado.com/2022/06/18/walcher-declining-water-levels-caused-by-government-not-climate/ ..."…”In reservoirs designed for multi‐year carryover storage, “declines are expected in dry years, and recovery is expected in wet years.” But at Lake Powell, “When large inflows do occur, current operational rules immediately trigger large releases.” In the extremely wet year of 2011, for example, inflow at Lake Powell was five million acre-feet above average. But the Bureau immediately opened the gates and sent it all downstream to Lake Mead, benefiting California, Las Vegas, and fish. No wonder Lake Powell cannot recover during wet years.” California has deferred commitments to new infrastructure year after year, preferring instead to squander it on high-speed rail and homeless projects, depending on the Colorado River for a lot of its water. They've had record snowfall in some of the past few years, but no new reservoirs to catch the snow-melt. I think there may be some nasty cross-border water-fights coming on over the next few (hopefully Republican, hopefully conservative) years. That article is what came to my mind when I saw the link. Thanks for posting it, I couldn’t remember where I saw the information. There is always two sides to a story. It was late in the Obama administration, I think, that the environmentalists decided that, perhaps correctly, that many marine species would benefit greatly from the silt that no longer flowed naturally because of the dams. So now every year, large quantities of water are released to aid in the silt flow. Animal welfare over people.
Environmentalists have always hated the dams in the West. The Monkey Wrench Gang, by Edward Abbey is the written fantasy of what could be. How much destruction did the book inspire? Admittedly, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Not because I agreed with the sentiment, it was a well written, fun story. After all: "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -H.L. Mencken I hope you enjoy it. Yeah, I disagreed with all the politics of the main characters, but I couldn’t put the book down once I started reading it. I enjoyed Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for the same reasons: Good story and good writing.
Thanks Aggie, I had missed that. I forwarded the link to interested parties.
In the Western States, average aggregate rainfall had essentially increased in the last sixty years. While there have been cycles of years with heavier precipitation interspersed with periods of drought, the heavy years have increased in the volume, and the drought years have been "wetter." Meanwhile, aggregate water consumption is just about what it was sixty years ago in the West. That is, although the population has increased, water usage for industry, mining, and agriculture has decreased significantly. (Not just because the Gang Green is intent upon destroying industry and agriculture, but also because practices have become less wasteful of water.) So... There really shouldn't be this problem. What you say explains a lot.
I noticed in Idaho this year that they were letting a ton of water out of the reservoirs early. The reservoirs are very low, to low this early in the year, and the river and canals are very high. It's a concerted effort to ensure a water crisis. California couldn't even maintain the Oroville dam. The Feds had to step in and repair the damage. Why are we stuck with an endless subsidy of western dams and hydroelectric power? Now they want water from the Mississippi. And I bet they expect the entire country to pay for that diversion project. No Thanks.
So now the left has decided that burning down churches and Christian centers is a good idea. I believe both of those would be hate crimes. Waiting now to see the charges and enhanced sentencing punishment...
One reason for the uprising against the "democratically elected" Popular Front/Republican government in Spain in July 1936 was the lefty destruction of hundreds of churches after the election.
While there would have been an uprising without it, lefty government policemen killing Jose Calvo Sotelo, perhaps the leading rightist in Parliament, convinced the right that justice was not possible under the Popular Front/Republican government. His killers were quickly known, but the government didn't arrest them. What further made the Nationalists implacable in the pursuit of winning the Civil War was the leftist killing of 7,000 Roman Catholic clergy in the initial months of the conflict. I am not a churchgoer, and my ancestors were Protestant. Even I am filled with horror at the massacre of Roman Catholic clergy in Spain at the beginning of the Civil War. Fresh water. This has always been the issue that environmentalists should have put their energy into. My prejudice is that they haven't found it as sexy because there is less opportunity to criticise the lifestyles of others.
Ahhhh, California...Californicating itself AGAIN!!

Colorado Christian center burned in mostly peaceful fashion: RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT...Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrre it was... Re: Blinken's disgraceful apology tour: SCOTUS ruling on Dobbs raises "concerns across the world"
This issue is a red herring and Blinken, if he had any sense, not to mention allegiance to the country he is supposed to be representing, would calmly explain two facts to any world leaders who have "concerns" about the SCOTUS's overturning Roe: 1. The decision is not about abortion, rather it is about the Constitution (and therefore none of their business). All the decision says is that the Constitution is silent on abortion and previous decisions were exercises in mental gymnastics to make it a Constitutional issue. Not being a Constitutional issue means that it becomes an issue for the states to regulate it or not. (one can agree or disagree - I disagree because the Declaration of Independence guarantees the right to life - but the Court took the more "liberal" position) 2. Even if the decision was about abortion, the vast majority of other countries, including Western European countries, had much more restrictive abortion laws than many of states were allowed to have under Roe. Regarding Roe; the left has always tried to get their agenda passed at the federal level exactly because at that level it is almost impossible for Democracy to over rule it. Once something becomes passed by the congress or ruled constitutional by the SCOTUS it is next to impossible for the people to over rule it. The only option they have is to vote in conservative congress members. But that typically fails because too many on the right are not conservative regardless of what they tell us to get elected. And the left is 100% organized and controlled. You almost never see the left split their vote and when it happens it is by agreement to allow a Democrat congress member to get reelected in a district where the voters would have rejected them had they supported the far left agenda.
It isn't going to be pretty but the way the 50 states handle abortion in the future will be Democracy, like it or not. My hope is that the various conservative states and politicians don't go overboard and remember that the reason this issue made it to SCOYUS and Roe got overturned is exactly because the left went too far with their abortion demands and finally a case was brought before SCOTUS that simply could not meet the constitution or common sense. Colorado Christian center burned in mostly peaceful protest ... The end game for the scientific "enlightenment" is moving into full swing. In no time at all they will be trying to feed the neo-Vendee into the modern day guillotine. Such progress from the progressives. Where's Garland? You know, that SCOTUS hopeful that was a "moderate" democrat nominee. He's in comparable company with Barr and Durham better known as the uniparty's bondo and paint.
IMO, "hook-up culture" starts with teaching youngsters that deferring gratification is "suppression". This expands to convince them that "I gotta have it. If not Miss Right, at least Miss Right-now". As far as I can see, ladies, if he won't help with protection, make him "history"; wait until you find a partner, however casual, that cares to avoid the risk of pregnancy.
