Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I've been an Epoch Times subscriber for about six months now.
My wife has subscribed to Epoch Times for about a year. Excellent paper and online access.
I’m an Epoch Times subscriber.
Interesting that the government would heavily redact royalty payments to Fauci and his clown show at NIH. I can see redacting things concerning national security, such that it is, but this is just hiding information. We the People should demand more transparent government. Why subscribe? What do they tell you that you cannot find without paying for it?
If we don't demand transparency from elected and appointed officials regarding their personal finances - something required of officials with an annual financial statement in many countries - then why would we get hung up on royalty payments for intellectual discoveries? We already have Congressmen making tidy fortunes trading stocks in the companies they're granting huge government contracts to! (See https://unusualwhales.com/i_am_the_senate if you want an education on who's beating Nancy Pelosi these days).
Regarding Van Jones, sometimes he speaks some slightly uncomfortable truths, but usually it's in service of being further Left than even Democrats; in this case he reminds me of the old adage about using the buddy system in bear country: When the grizzly attacks, you don't have to out-run the bear, if you can outrun your buddy. John Malone is coming to town, and soon there will be juicy positions to be had by those remaining. Malone has stated he's determined to return CNN to the world of news, and he is one of those behind-the-scenes players who understands the privilege of wielding power is grounded in the purpose of the results. My Manhattan-ite off-spring had understood ET to be pure propaganda from Falun Gong nutters. I showed him old news items re: Falun Gong member being flattened by fellow countrymen in Tiananmen square to give him context.
He read our ET’s when he was ex-NYC during pandemic & now subscribes. (Gives me a glimmer of hope that I didn’t screw up completely when raising him😬) If more of our readers would subscribe to Epoch Times, I would link their stuff more often
No thanks. I don't trust Falun Gong any more than I trust the Chinee government. Epoch Times is determined to tell you only one side of the story. Such things can be a refreshing change-of-pace, but ultimately make themselves stupid, and drag you along with it.
And you have a news source that isn't one sided? Pray, do tell!
In fact there is a provider that covers a wide range of topics: RealClear news. Here is their Politics site:
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/ RealClear is very good about selecting / collecting the better examples of journalism coverage, representing various perspectives on given topics. It's all-sided. Since they offer a variety of areas (Investigations, Politics, Policy, Markets, Energy, Sports, History, World, Defense, Education, Health, Science, Religion, etc) there is no shortage of material or viewpoints. As always, with the presented material in front of you, the most difficult part is reading dissenting views and trying to remain neutral and fair-minded while doing so. It's not easy to set bias aside. I think the Wall Street Journal has a leaning, but is very good.
I think overlooking the bias of your own sources because "everyone does it" is tempting, but ultimately futile. I was in Romania for the election between an actual fascist and an actual communist (plus a Hungarian rights party that got 11%). My opinion is that WSJ reads more conservatively biased in the last year or two, compared to my previous experience. Perhaps this is because its bias is pro-business and strong economy, rather than aligned with a political party. Also, it tends not to be extremist or inflammatory, as investors don't like that.
I feel like the world, certainly the U.S. is collectively whisltling past the graveyard. There are half a dozen or more serious crisis's on the horizon or already here and the general response is meh! It's like Nov 1941 and all our battle ships are in port lined up in a row for easy bombing and strafing and now one recognizes the problem or cares.
Side note: Did you know that on Dec 7 1941 our two aircraft carriers where not in the harbor? They were noth well away from the harbow and literally by themselves. This is something that never happens, that is a aircraft carrier out on the ocean without it's support and battle fleet. Also it was a general rule back then that one carrier would remain in port when the other was out. But very strangely both were out of port by themselves. Anyway we can all see these crisis's bearing down on us and we, our government, seems unaware. Why is that? Are we being set up for a big fall? This is consistent with the WEF agenda. Are they running our government, because Biden isn't. China is literally on the verge of war in SouthEast Asia and our military is celebrating degenerates and searching for patriots to kick out. What will it take to wake us up? Neither the Enterprise nor the Lexington were 'by themselves' on December 7. Both were at the center of task forces that were comprised of the carrier, cruisers and destroyers (the battleships at Pearl were all older classes and were not capable of keeping up with the carriers and their escorts). The Enterprise was returning from delivering planes to Wake Island and in fact was scheduled to return on the evening of December 6. A storm and serious damage to a destroyer in the task force delayed their arrival. The Lexington and its task force left Pearl on December 5 to deliver planes to Midway. On the 7th the Lexington was about 500 miles southeast of Midway. See https://www.history.navy.mil/research/library/online-reading-room/title-list-alphabetically/c/carrier-locations.html and https://www.warhistoryonline.com/war-articles/uss-enterprise-and-pearl-harbor.html?firefox=1
Maybe. I first read that the two carriers were not in Pearl harbor in the 50's and the story I read said that there was no explanation for it and that they were not accompanied by their usual fleet. It wasn't a casual story about these two carriers it was a critical look at what happened and why pearl harbor attack happened. Obviously I cannot today cite these or show you the proof of what was written. But this was an active theory in the early 50's and too many survivors and witnesses were still alive to try to refute it or rewrite the history. The simple fact it was making was that Roosevelt had prior knowledge of the attack and for safety moved the two carriers out of harms way and assumed that the battleships would survive and even put up a defense. For obvious reasons he couldn't warn them after all the intent of enduring a unprovoked attack was to bring us into the war and if America knew that He knew we were going to be attacked it would have the opposite effect. Again the story elaborated that no one knew the attack would be so effective and decimate the Pacific fleet and thus all the more reason to cover up what happened.
Now, you say, that history has effectively been rewritten and those carriers were merely out doing their normal job and no one did anything wrong... Where have I heard this kind of crap before??? OK! I can't prove you wrong and in fact you may be right but talk to someone my age about what really happened at Pearl Harbor, not the history channel some 80 years later. Wondering, why is this a salient point? If the carriers had been in harbor, they would have probably been in port/shipyard configuration, with the decks covered up with work equipment. They would have been unable to cast off, set sail, and point into the wind. Launching aircraft would have been impossible on short notice. Is that the hypothesis? That they could have saved the day? I think they would have been sitting ducks and one of the first targets, myself.
It is a salient point because they were irreplaceable. That is why Roosevelt had them moved out of danger. He knew a week before the attack that it was coming and knew it would reverse the country's opposition to getting involved in "Europe's" war. So he allowed it and assumed the damage wouldn't be as severe as it turned out to be. But he saved the carriers exactly because they were sitting ducks.
The idea that Roosevelt knew has long been popular, but that is more because people want to believe that about him than that it holds up under scrutiny. A lot of people hated him, and people believe mutterings about those they hate.

So your entire thesis is that since some people hated Roosevelt any criticism of him must be a lie!
I can only say that I have heard about the probability that Roosevelt knew about the attack on Pearl Harbor for at least a week prior to the attack since the 40's and that the evidence and claims were not made by people who hated him. There has been some scholars who have exposed some of the facts and the hate was turned towards them not towards Roosevelt. Having said that I believe in retrospect Roosevelt was a terrible president. He leaned towards socialism and coddled communists in his administration. He more than anyone else in the West was responsible for Eastern Europeans having to live under the thumb of the USSR for decades.

Can I just add that many people do think that Roosevelt allowed the attack on Pearl Harbor AND believe that is exactly what he should have done. They actually like Roosevelt for this because they believe that had we not entered the war that Europe would have been neaten and fully occupied by Germany who have then rebuilt their military to take on the U.S. In other words we needed to get into the war to save ourselves but the American public was short sighted and opposed to it so we were going to face a much bigger threat if we waited. So not all of those who believed Roosevelt did this were Roosevelt haters.

American education is still hanging out in the gutter. When will states learn to fund the student/parent and not the institution? The public education institutions are corrupted monopolies living off the taxpayer. Next, they will support drag queen story hour and drop the math requirement.
BD, I understand you have someone who needs steroids now and then. If you wish to contact me, I can pick some up for you on my next trip to Mexico. I keep Prednisone 20mg and 5mg on hand for gout and other problems. My GP knows and doesn't even murmur.
Another Epocher here. Best newspaper-like website with lots of China info. They'll give you a YEAR for $77 if you rattle their cage enough. Lots of objective covid coverage as well. Loving Maggie big time. Peace
I subscribe to the Epoch Times. Conservative media needs the support, and its nice to read news lacking a strident, angry tone.
