Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"The Democrats are blowing it"
The Democrats used the covid crisis to take power and implement their far left agenda. But along the way they got hooked on that power and continued to blatantly abuse that power to the extent that even their most ardent supporters became worried. They used the riots to create a crisis in cities and states where they could corrupt the election. They used the congress to give away trillions to friends who will give back millions maybe billions to Democrat candidates. But they were so drunk on their power that they became tone deaf to the common voter's concerns. Now the common man will pay a price and they will know who is responsible. But don't underestimate the addiction to power. This summer will/must be a summer of riots and mostly peaceful demonstrations. New crisis's will magically appear that will require mandates and lockdowns. The covid masks and mandates was a test, a trial balloon of sorts and it worked so well that it must be repeated. The Democrats must create a massive crisis before November even if this false crisis destroys us. Hold on, it's all going to get worse. VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: Soviet Union of America
QUOTE: Behind all our disasters there looms an ideology, a creed that ignores cause and effect in the real world—without a shred of concern for the damage done to those outside the nomenklatura. “Sovietization” is perhaps the best diagnosis of the pathology. It refers to the subordination of policy, expression, popular culture, and even thought to ideological mandates. Ultimately such regimentation destroys a state since dogma wars with and defeats meritocracy, creativity, and freedom. https://directorblue.blogspot.com/2022/06/victor-davis-hanson-soviet-union-of.html#more I went to the "Democrats are blowing it" link and saw it was written by the despicable gasbag Kevin Williamson. The slobs at Conservative Inc. house organs like NR hate and ridicule Donald Trump but it was their craven despising and mocking the American working class that brought Trump to the fore front
"despicable gasbag," "slobs," "house organ," "craven," but it's THEY who have hate? Buy a mirror. Conservatives have always argued with each other and disagreed, and that has been a strength. It is not a strength of populists, who insist on obedience, like liberals turned inside out. I see no reason to obey you, thanks. (And yes, that is what you are advocating, you just don't see it.) We were lucky that Trump listened to some conservatives, and that he was essentially a patriot even when he did dumb stuff like giving away billions. I voted for him anyway. But he was not a conservative.
You are quite right, AVI, hate is not the excusive domain of the Left. We're all mortal men and subject to the same foibles.
Perhaps you missed this, I posted a survey yesterday that found that significant minorities of Democrats and Republicans under the age of 50 believe it would be okay to kill an office holder if they feel that person is doing "significant harm" to the country. It's a generational shift in attitude, and it makes me wonder about the future. https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2022/06/09/a-disturbing-poll-in-the-aftermath-of-the-attempted-assassination-of-brett-kavanaugh-n1604326 As for the derogatory terms you cite, those are a bit of a pet peeve of mine. Many a good column, making excellent points, is reduced in effectiveness by the ad hominim insults. It's hard enough to change a person's point of view and insulting them reduces the chances to zero. OTOH it must be great for preaching to the choir because we see it all the time. Should the Germans have assassinated Hitler in the 1930's? Six million jews and 50 million others think someone should have. Were they all wrong?
I would be elated if someone assassinated Kim Jong Un and then all the people rose up in an insurrection and threw out the government and reunited with South Korea. Would that be wrong? I would say the same thing about Xi Jinping. Would that be wrong think to want a billion Chinese to be free? Your comment put me in mind of a favorite quote of mine from Jefferson:
"...What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure..." Our Founders were wise indeed, especially with respect to human nature and its failings. Oh goodie! We haven't had one of your pompous "better than thou" posts in a while.
Trangbang does not need a mirror. Perhaps you'd realize that if you actually took the time to understand what others write. An issue that has plagued you for many years. Trangbang is not hateful simply b/c of what career others choose, or their financial station in life. He expressed contempt toward those whose words and actions are directed at harming fairly humble people. At those who lie. At those who work to undermine good works. So I can see why you might be touchy about his post. Agreed. The assistant to the village idiot is often a do-gooder ninny, which can be a very dangerous type of person.
20 year low in coffee reserves, what!!!
My productive years are already waning. This may be the harbinger of “I’m done”. =D "Two Rescued After Falling into Chocolate Tank at M&M Factory"
Am I the only person who immediately thought of The Smothers Brothers? "Start with the fact that Asians are the fastest-growing racial group in the country and Democrats have viewed their vote...":
The Asians are SMART. WAYYYYYY smarter than Democrats, heh, heh, heh... The Asians are SMART. WAYYYYYY smarter than Democrats
Uh, who told you that? Ever see how people live in Asia? Asians attrition for Democrats is not some boon for "conservatives". Rather it simply shows that identity politics has always been at play, and Asians work for themselves, and are willing to exploit anyone else to do so. Asians are for Asians, if the Democrats are useful, they support them. If not, then you get "attrition." Historically, pretty common among all the various world tribes. And like fractals, it's always hard to tell when two groups identify as one or not. And there are certainly some exceptions or anomalies. The less successful betray their own, and it hurts all of them. The headlines are screaming that Lake Mead and Lake Powell are drying up. And they are. The Southwest goes through cyclical droughts and we are in one. But if you go to Las Vegas you will see green golf courses and other foolish use of the Colorado river water. Why is that? We are in a drought and we are wasting water. The answer is simple. You buy or otherwise acquire water rights and then you use them or lose them. The water rights in the West are archaic and inconsistent with the reality of growing populations. There IS enough water for necessary use but not enough water for frivolous use. And the old water rights laws make the problem worse.
And idiots with too much ego, not enough common sense, and a tendency to consider their own pleasures more important than the general population's needs are the root cause.
And that is a common theme on both the left and the right btw, just worded differently by each. I'm sure there are at least a few conservatives out there who're soaking their lawns and taking hour long showers out of spite simply because of the left claiming that the drought is "climate change" (it isn't, but claiming it is as as stupid as wasting water during a drought, whatever the reason for the drought). |
