Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

'Scientists accidentally create super-vicious HAMSTERS in a lab after gene editing experiment goes wrong'
Do they ever stop and think about what might happen if any of the vermin got loose? Tampering with Mother Nature rarely ends well. The fascist idiots at the World Economic Forum tell us that people are finally “hackable” presumably into a more pliable and controllable populace. They would need to do that to pull off their schemes since the thing socialist and communist governments keep running into causing them to fail is human nature. Change human nature and all their plans might become possible.
Of course if their hacking turns people into super vicious, aggressive predators those “hacked” people might turn on them. They may have to postpone their Great Reset plans. I don’t think they’ve really thought this through. It doesn’t appear that those elites are as smart as they want us to believe. Why is it that when I read headlines about vicious attack hamsters, I think of Democrats?
because their mother was a hamster and their father smelt of elderberries!
The spin in that Atlantic article is really something. So, oil companies are now responsible for the failure of plastics recycling? Explain the cause & effect dynamics of that one again? Because I recall recycling being endlessly harped upon by ecologists, public policy 'Green' experts, civic leaders in search of problems to fix, and gravy-train economists looking for their next subsidized business opportunity. I didn't see where the Atlantic took on the subject of power-generation via incineration of plastics, something that leaves behind very little to clean up.
I have eaten at a virtuous restaurant that sends out their takeaway in paper containers, an egg-carton-like material that quickly gets soggy and falls apart in your lap on the way home. And they serve up paper straws, too. They come in a sanitized plastic wrapper, I kid you not. Now do solar panels. Yeah, that "article" was a perfect example of the cognitive dissonance of the left.
Plastic recycling is bad b/c it's not cost effective. Recycling metal and glass is good even though it's not cost effective. Plastic recycling is bad b/c it's not cost effective. We hate the plastics industry as they try to make it cost effective. Recycling is good, despite releasing carbon emissions. Plastic burning is bad, despite releasing carbon emissions. "solutions include enacting bans on single-use plastic bags." https://www.npr.org/2019/05/08/721542495/the-problem-with-banning-plastic-bags And on and on. Two abject failures trying to convince the world to follow their failure. Did I not get the memo where waxed paper was declared taboo? I recall it being used to wrap dang near everything Back in The Day, with not a soggy sandwich in sight.
Female swimmers at the University of Pennsylvania say school officials told them their lives would be completely ruined if they spoke out against Thomas joining their swim team
Shocking. Who could have guessed the serpent's lies would backfire against Eve? Did the girls at Penn. ever stop to think that if they all banded together, it might be the school administrators’ lives that would be ruined? Have they not read any history? How one person standing against the world can make a huge difference. No, the only ‘history’ they know is how terrible the West is. How terrible they are, for being born white.
What schools have done to children is a huge black mark against us all. Society will be paying a price for years to come. The Biden administration is a looking glass into the type of government that woke creatures lead. There is no value placed on individual liberty. IMHO the female swimmers need to grow a pair! Sorry, couldn't resist.
What I mean is the only way this will stop is if the female athlete's take action. I would suggest that for swimmers that means to step up as though they were going to compete and all of them stand there as the man dives in then turn around and walk away. Just refuse to compete against men. This is exactly what should happen. The women should take their stance on the platform and when the buzzer sounds they should simply stand up, cross their arms, and watch the fool dive in the pool by himself.
I suspect the crowd at the event would support them fully. Of course with the risk of losing scholarships and the very real fact that the internet never forgets anything, the fear these young ladies have of being punished--canceled--for a lifetime is understandable. The real problem is the cowardice of the school administrations and the sanctioning bodies. FREE THE HAMSTERS!! (Also, the eggsters...) (My silly for today.)
Female swimmers at the University of Pennsylvania say school officials told them their lives would be completely ruined if they spoke out against Thomas joining their swim team. I would suggest that the women get spray-paint cans to use when Thomas gets naked... "The spin in that Atlantic article is really something." I gave up on The ATLANTIC yearrrrs ago, "Scouts sell off camps under strain from sex abuse suits"
Another venerable institution destroyed by the Left. I am grateful for my years-long experience as a Boy Scout and know that today's incarnation is a pale shadow from that which I experienced. I have found it ironic that many of the same detractors who vilify the Boy Scouts for abuse are the same who lobbied for and now celebrate the "advance" inherent in gay scoutmasters, the logical disconnect being completely lost on them. (I would no sooner have my son in a troop with a gay scoutmaster than I would my daughter in a Girl Scout troop with male (or lesbian) leaders.). And now to read that people expect the Scouts to be deprived of resources to pay court costs and restitution that they might gain from the (sad) sale of their real estate assets is equally appalling. (At this point, what other means does Scouting have tp pay damages other than real estate holdings?) The detractors don't just want a pound of flesh, they want everything and to see Scouting destroyed. The irony in this is that the scouts for many years tried to keep gays out, as they should. If you have a male organization with vulnerable young boys you should not have gay leaders. It is just common sense. But those most responsible for destroying the Boy Scouts were gay activists angry with the Boy Scout organization for excluding them. They more than any other group are responsible for the fiscal and social mess the scouts are in today. Here is where the irony comes in: 100% of those sex scandals in the scouts were perpetrated by gays. The scouts bowed to the gay lobby and allowed openly gay scouts and leaders and then began having young boy scouts being sexually mistreated by gay scouts and gay leaders.
Too bad too because today young boys really need more support systems. After some 60-70 years of our country focusing on feminism and special treatment for women at the expense of fairness for men and boys our male youth are not doing well. The Boy Scouts was a good organization to mentor boys into manhood. To bad it was destroyed by the left. "Scouts sell off camps under strain from sex abuse suits"
Creating a new generation of victims who don't get to enjoy these properties. Sadly, these new victims probably lean toward being relatively poorer, minority, and from single parent families. Side note: if this report is true, the BSA had horrible corporate lawyers. The troops and camps should have all been in held separate legal entities to avoid this problem. Every “Indian” in Canada and the U.S. who is registered with a tribe is paid tens thousands of dollars annually. They have been on welfare for 150 years or so. The tribal leaders force then to stay ignorant and on the dole. The “indigenous” people benefit hugely from colonizing and their real enemy/problem is the tribal leaders who use them for their own benefit. It is also interesting to watch a TV show where the “Indian” is hunting or fishing using $50,000 equipment, white man’s guns and equipment, white man’s clothes and all the while they are telling us they are practicing their indigenous ways. In Western U.S. you can drive through miles of desert, beautiful country with an occasional home near the road and suddenly come upon a large and modern hospital with perhaps 200 brand new and very nice homes and you wonder how did that happen? The hospital, the homes, the doctors and other health care employees is 100% federal paid with your taxes and dedicated to Indian health care. YOU don’t get this special treatment, only these poor colonized indigenous people get this.
It is way past time to end the reservation system. Give each of the Indians deeded land. If there is common land create a corporation to manage and oversee it. Let them finallyjoin the rest of the world and experience real freedom. If they choose to live a traditional lifestyle more power to them. But end the present system 100% of U.S. Indians are U.S. citizens so stop treating them like dependent children. "Liberal media blames Trump, capitalism, and toxic business culture amidst Sheryl Sandberg's Facebook departure": Ahhhh,
the Blame Game, because, of course, it can't POSSIBLY be the "Liberal media", since we all KNOW that it/they are "pure as the driven snow". (SARC off!) Ethanol: This administration, sophomores, and the ignorant approach problem-solving as if resource taps, organizations, and groups of people were isolated islands in a vast pond. They believe they can punish corporate island without affecting employee island, add ethanol to gasoline island without affecting maize island, and drown economy island in money irrespective of price island. Perhaps sophomores ought to be taught that it's not a pond, but a trampoline, and to stop using solutions that bounce the whole shebang while targeting their project du jour. Next up: Corn Syrup Shortage Stalls Baby Formula Increase. Experts Baffled.
Just as nefarious: EtOH brings in water and increases corrosion.
That's corrosion of pipelines (it's usually piped separately b/c of this), storage tanks, and ENGINES. When cars breakdown sooner and more often, costing more than rising fuel costs, you'll know whom to thank. Ostentatious Stupidity
QUOTE: 1) Mostly it ignored the laws of physics, despite the fact that so many people involved in enterprises such as wind and solar energy were science-and-tech mavens; and… 2) There was a dumb assumption that the general shape and scale of daily life would remain as it had been — in other words, that we could still run suburbia, the giant cities, Disney World, Walmart, the U.S. military and the Interstate Highway System just the way they were already set up, only by other means than oil and gas. Now we’re finding out the hard way how much daily life must change, and is changing and how disorderly that process is in every way from the imperative personal adjustments to our spiritual attitudes about them. https://www.zerohedge.com/personal-finance/ostentatious-stupidity New York Times Op-Ed Applauds Inflation As Means To Enforce Green Diet
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/new-york-times-op-ed-applauds-inflation-means-enforce-green-diet The NYT speaks for the Ruling Class that high gas and food prices are a good thing. It seems the Times has overlooked the rocketing price rises in the ingredients to build batteries for electric cars nor the landfill problems associated with windmill production. Diesel not only affects food production costs but also the cost of moving anything from the producers to the consumers. Journalists need more classes on cause and effect. Only the elite can ignore costs until we get to the point of producing nothing. Then they have nothing as well.
Re: the green diet and price increases.
When I go shopping I check the meat prices. I am the primary food shopper and food preparer for the family so I have been doing this for years. You can find a package of two NY strip for $20-$30 bucks. Too expensive so it sits there while most shoppers by hamburger or pork. Then after a week or so the price is marked down by about half. I swoop in and buy it at half price and we eat steak tonight. Now this has been true forever. I typically check at 8 AM when the butchers have brought in the outdated meat and discounted it and put it back on the shelves. sometimes there is more bargains at the meat counter than I want to buy. But the simple fact is the higher the price goes the fewer people buy the expensive cuts and therefore the more often expensive cuts are discounted. QUOTE: Disturbing economic, political, and social trends are already in motion and now accelerating at breathtaking speed. Most troubling of all, they cannot be stopped. The risks that lie ahead are too big and dangerous to ignore. A very good read! https://www.zerohedge.com/political/net-zero-agenda-has-devastating-consequences-heres-what-you-need-know re Biden administration raises amount ofethanol that must be blended with gas
It's from Central Planning. Expect failure. Biden Mandates More Ethanol in Gasoline, Expect Many Negative Repercussions QUOTE: Chet Thompson, CEO of the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, said the blending requirement for this year is "contrary to the administration’s claims to be doing everything in their power to provide relief to consumers." "Unachievable mandates will needlessly raise fuel production costs and further threaten the viability of U.S. small refineries, both at the expense of consumers," Thompson said. Of course if the plan is to raise the price of gas to crush the Little People, and speed the way to Green Utopia, then this mandate is all to the good. https://mishtalk.com/economics/biden-mandates-more-ethanol-in-gasoline-expect-many-negative-repercussions "Michael Bloomberg says America's public school system is FAILING"
You can thank, in large part, the AFT's abominable crone, Randi Weingarten for that. New York shrinking and losing taxes...given a decade it could easily look like Detroit. The remnant class does not produce and only looks forward to consuming. Look at the other remnant class cities, Flint, Gary, Memphis, St Louis, E St Louis and before long you can add Minneapolis, San Francisco, Los Angelos along with the other woke cities. Reality does not treat woke states, cities, or politicians very well. They require subsidies and the slush funds are no longer available except as debt.
I think you were just making a point about NYC decline, but I don't think it will look like Detroit. Even Baltimore has survived worse (albeit with massive Federal subsidies).
I see NYC looking like Philly in a few years. I'm not sure what goes in in Philly to be quite honest. Anyway, NYC still controls finance, and its residents will have some say over truly crushing taxes. SF and LA also still make things. And have the huge advantage of being places where people want to live. SF overcame a devastating fire to rebuild. Portland however? I can see it shrinking back to a much smaller place. It's already on a slight decline, and has a history of regressing in response to economic woes. Minneapolis? I think you could be right there. Not much of a draw. Could see Fargo and Omaha benefitting from this. A Wake-Up Call for Public Education
Public education. Public transportation. Public toilets. The desperate will use them. Public ed might have been a good idea from 1920-1950 but that time is gone. In 5 years public schools will be left behind for the left behind. The education mafia will fight tooth and nail to maintain their kingdom but anyone that can will vote with their feet.
