We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
If we believe the daily pronouncements from the Legacy Corporate Media, the Democrats are in for pain. Do we believe them, like we believed their coverage of the 2020 election season, where the Basement Candidate was ahead in the polls by 13% when a handful of people were turning up for his teleprompter fails, and the Hunter Biden laptop story was silenced? Or do we trust our lying eyes?
I notice that there are no stories in the news about what the Republicans plan to do with their spoils, since they're apparent winning a majority of seats in Congress come November, a done deal. What are your plans, Republicans? I saw yesterday that John Cornyn, long-time establishment Chamber-of-Commerce Senator from Texas, is reaching out across the aisle now, before election season to propose amnesty for millions of illegal aliens. He's a Republican. Isn't that interesting, how cherished conservative principles are, in today's Republican Party? Is this a hint of the sugar-coating we can look forward to? Democrats aren't the only treacherous villains in Washington.
Look in the background of any of the photographs of McConnell. It is usually filled with genuine, full-blown uniparty republicans. Cornyn is usually there. Also Blunt, Burr, Thune, Young, and some other useless critters.
When McConnell finally wears out his welcome they will try to replace him with Thune. No Thanks.
Remember that every time you read about California’s energy woes, that the current administration, a grand representation of the modern democrat party, thinks it as a model for the rest of us. California imports more electricity than any other state.
For a successful rehabilitation program, look at Step Denver. Of course Step Denver, formally Step Thirteen, requires something from the person that enters their facility. Step Denver requires that you stop your bad habits and remain clean. Government programs are nothing more than enabling programs. As Glenn Reynolds says, they want to turn us all into beggars. Beggars are easier to please.
" Democrats May Demand Elon Musk Testify About Twitter Reforms"
Interesting. Can we see the camera shots now. "Mr. Musk, the government has serious concerns about your reported plans to permit free speech on Twitter."
"Your idea of permitting ideas to be expressed that might be hurtful to the college graduates and to permit open discourse on such ideas like educated adults undermines the entirety of modern education as put forth by the teachers unions and left-leaning professors"
I certainly hope the Democrats are in for a shellacking come November - with the Republicans firmly in control I'm sure it'll be just a few days before the government gets smaller and less intrusive and cheaper. Plus I'll finally get my flying unicorn!
Housing First is one of those tempting ideas that people who have not actually tried to solve homelessness find attractive, because it is concrete and they can point to it and say "Look. There. Now has a shelter. What a great start." Politicians and advocates love stuff like that. Check back in a year and see what happened to those people.
When solutions are actually new, they pick off a lot of low-hanging fruit and do solve a lot of problems. For housing, that was over fifty years ago. Then the real difficulties set in. City Journal is correct that at a first pass, the homelessness problem is not a question of construction, walls, and roofs ("If this rich country would just have a heart and spend the money on their fellow men." Whine.) It is a mental health and drug abuse issue. Even that is an oversimplification, but it is at least in the right direction.
