We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I have family who are life long dryland farmers. They believe in man made global warming. I listen with no judgment. Well, I do judge. I figure if my income source was directly influenced on what the present seasonal change my become (little moisture, to much moisture, drought, hail, pestilence) I would listen to the weather forecasters blather about the man made climate change and believe as they do. But I only listen. I bite my tongue. The old saying is everyone likes to complain about the weather but no one does anything about it. Now these people believe we CAN do something about it. If I speak my thoughts I’ll create family animosity. I avoid the conflict.
Censorship and avoiding conflicts are two big reasons we are inundated with problems that are not being dealt with. AGW, immigration, covid, government education, lgbtwxyz, Russia, Russia, Russia, and the Ukraine are not dealt with when neither the admin state and/or the media find it in their interest to NOT have them discussed from all perspectives.
Indeed. But I suspect as the economy and inflation keep heading for the gutter that more of them will abandon their rather frivolous concerns and focus on economic survival. A recent poll put climate change at the bottom of concerns. Reality is beginning to get a foothold.
