Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: Why don't the media ever ask why previous IPCC predictions have been so wrong? Forecase evaluation for models run in 2004 show the close fit between projections and observations. QUOTE: How did the globe cool from 1940 to 1975 when the IPCC says that fossil fuels, CO2, methane, cars, humans, industrialization all cause warming? Mid-twentieth century cooling was primarily due to industrial aerosols. However, the cooling effect, called global dimming, is outstripped over the long term by the warming effect of anthropogenic greenhouse gases. QUOTE: Isn't the temperature on the globe today similar to what it was during the medieval warming period when fossil fuels and humans weren't causing warming? No. The current warming outstrips the temperatures of the Medieval Warm Period. (The current temperature anomaly is significantly higher than shown on the chart.) But the real concern is projected warming over the next few decades. Reconstruction Temperature for last 1000 years QUOTE: Wouldn't a one-to-two-degree temperature rise be normal after a 550 year ice age ended in the mid 1800's? As noted, the current warming outstrips previous warming periods, but it is projected warming that is the concern. QUOTE: Why is the media willing to push a radical leftist agenda that will destroy America and decimate the poor, middle class, and small businesses without asking questions? That is a fallacy of presupposition. The questions have been asked and answered through the collection of scientific evidence. That you have your eyes and ears covered doesn't make the evidence go away. feeblemind: Why previous IPCC predictions have been so wrong?
As above, Forecast evaluation for models run in 2004 show the close fit between projections and observations. That chart means nothing since NASA has been resetting old temperature records cooler and recent temperature records hotter.
Regardless, the predictions of the effect of whatever climate changes we have had have been wildly inaccurate. As the article states, in 1989, the IPCC said we only have 10 years to avert a climate catastrophe. We were supposed to see the end of snow in the UK, the dying out of the polar bears because of the lack of ice in the Arctic. NYC was supposed to be flooded, most of the species were supposed to go extinct. Hurricane seasons were supposed to be much stronger. The list goes on. None of it has happened. mudbug: That chart means nothing since NASA has been resetting old temperature records cooler and recent temperature records hotter.
Independent analysis of the raw data confirms the trend. For instance, see Rohde et al., A New Estimate of the Average Earth Surface Land Temperature Spanning 1753 to 2011, Geoinformatics & Geostatistics 2013. In addition, satellite observations, and observations from a variety of related fields, also confirm the overall warming trend. mudbug: As the article states, in 1989, the IPCC said we only have 10 years to avert a climate catastrophe. Where exactly in the IPCC report does it say that? The specifics you mention concern the long term effects of global warming. It does state that the worst effects will occur if humanity fails to address the problem, but humans began to address the problem, albeit tentatively, in the aftermath of the 1989 IPCC report.

IPCC predictions are a global government narrative that has been purchased by national governments funding of "studies" by government approved experts.
indyjonesouthere: IPCC predictions are a global government narrative that has been purchased by national governments funding of "studies" by government approved experts.
Independent studies confirm the global warming trend. For instance, see Rohde et al., A New Estimate of the Average Earth Surface Land Temperature Spanning 1753 to 2011, Geoinformatics & Geostatistics 2013. The evidence is pervasive, and includes different scientists, using different methodologies, from different countries, from different cultures, and working in different political systems. There are no independent studies in which government money has not entered the equation. Minnesota is not presently buried under a glacier...that is a GOOD thing. Warmer weather means more food production. Cooler weather means less food production. All of this is in spite of the government elitists insisting we survive on no meat and to eat bugs. Let them eat bugs...they can even eat the chocolate coated bugs. Any warming is so gradual that we can easily adjust to the temps.
indyjonesouthere: There are no independent studies in which government money has not entered the equation.
Rohde (2013) was originally funded by the Koch Charitable Foundation. They continue to operate as a charitable foundation, and donors have no say in their activities or publications. indyjonesouthere: Any warming is so gradual that we can easily adjust to the temps. Mitigation will be important, but the world already has trouble dealing with current levels of migration. Climate change will cause even more severe political and social disruption. Give it up Quibble-DickZ and stop promoting fake science.
This has been pointed out to y'all before. QUOTE: This ought to be Good News for the BerkeleyEarth project, best known for its BEST surface temperature products and its now famous first paper “A New Estimate of the Average Earth Surface Land Temperature Spanning 1753 to 2011” which was published as the first ever paper in the first ever edition of the fake OMICS / SCITECHNOL e-journal Geoinformatics & Geostatistics: An Overview. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/04/04/fake-academe-fined-50-1-million/

QUOTE: After almost two years and some false starts, BEST now has one paper that has finally passed peer review. The text below is from the email release sent late Saturday. It was previously submitted to JGR Atmospheres according to their July 8th draft last year, but appears to have been rejected as they now indicate it has been published in Geoinformatics and Geostatistics, a journal I’ve not heard of until now. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/01/19/berkeley-earth-finally-makes-peer-review/

There wasn't much to read. There was a link to an hour-long video. Can you provide a better citation? indyjonesouthere: Progressive, democratic socialists, marxists, and fascists have been waging war and the war will be returned to them in full measure. Many of those groups are at cross purposes. In any case, how are they "waging war"?

The administration has run into a problem with the border crisis. They are running out of free phones to give to the illegals. OMG what can we do? Biden is begging China to make more phones so we can give them to the illegals. Also they need to release crude oil from the emergency oil supply because they are flying illegals all over the U.S. More oil is needed to help these people get to where they can take your jobs and your kids jobs. What does the future hold? We may have to stop welfare. With all these new welfare illegals and the coming economic crash we simply cannot afford to continue welfare. What to do? Go broke or bring in more Democrats? Tough decisions.

#laugh at the high end restaurants and multi-million dollar condos that now must use electric ranges ... that use electricity made from burning coal. QUOTE: VDH: We are watching a rare laboratory experiment in which the traditional American fringe is now in control of the government. Per his usual schtick, VDH cycles through all the unhinged and partially hinged right-wing muck. QUOTE: In the long term, the medicine of lockdowns and quarantines probably proved more calamitous than the disease A million Americans died due to COVID. He is right, though, in the sense that the U.S. paid a very high economic price and, through political dysfunction and obstinance, still didn't manage to control the pandemic. QUOTE: far lower rejection rates in most states That was primarily due to fewer ballots being cast too late to be counted. QUOTE: The electrician now pays five times more for his wire, the carpenter eight times more for his plywood, the plumber six times more for his pipe Well, that's just false. Prices have definitely risen since January 2021, but not nearly that much. Most of the rise can be attributed to the sudden increase in construction as the economy has surged. Demand for lumber increased much faster than mills can respond. QUOTE: When an American president predicts a food shortage in what used to be the breadbasket of the world Food is a global market. The war in Ukraine will put strains on global food markets. QUOTE: After the worst military humiliation in 50 years in Afghanistan Who could imagine a twenty-year catastrophic war in Afghanistan could end catastrophically? There never was a coherent Afghan military or government that had the support of the people as a whole. Foreign money and control corrupted everything. Exiting Afghanistan stopped the constant drain on U.S. resources and freed the American military for other challenges. You never know. Something could happen. QUOTE: We are learning that the likes of Anthony Fauci have all but destroyed the reputation of once time-honored federal health agencies. Fauci is one of the most respected and cited scientists in medicine. As for "politicizing 'science'," think ivermectin, bleaching COVID, Trump ripping off his mask, and a million dead Americans. https://westernrifleshooters.us/2022/03/30/bracken-sends-146/ VDH is correct but it's going to be impossible to un-do all damage that the Biden (mal)administration has done. Just like Obamacare, it will be with us forever. Like Ronald Reagan said, “The closest thing to eternal life on earth is a Government Program.”
snopercod: Just like Obamacare, it will be with us forever.
There is no reason the American people can't pass legislation to end Obamacare. More than likely, they won't, at least without replacing it with an even stronger program. That's because Obamacare helps provide healthcare insurance to people who otherwise would not have coverage. It's like Social Security. The American people could end it, but they won't. I think with the massive influx of illegals that free health care and welfare will have to be curtailed. We just can't afford to support the lazy and stupid. What we need is a strong congress that will end welfare and even more make it clear that the federal government cannot ever again give taxpayer money to individuals. This is a job for charities not the government.
JustMe: I think with the massive influx of illegals that free health care and welfare will have to be curtailed.
Undocumented immigrants are not eligible for Obamacare. https://www.healthcare.gov/immigrants/coverage/ Nor are they eligible to vote, nor are they eligable to work in this country. It depends on enforcement or lack thereof.

There are some work exceptions under the Immigration and Nationality Act. However, there is a large underground work economy, especially in agriculture and service industries.

Never said anything about Obamacare. The illegals do get free health care. My additional suggestion is that since they are citizens of another country that we start billing their mother country and if they don't pay we confiscate their property and assets. What we need is a declaration of war against illegal invaders. Mandatory jail time to be spent in the farmers fields picking crops and when harvest is over send them back home.

That was the topic. justMe: The illegals do get free health care. Undocumented immigrants are not qualified for federal Medicaid or CHIP. Many undocumented immigrants avoid health care, including preventative medicine. They are only eligible for emergency care and child birth. Some states do attempt to fill the gap. justMe: Mandatory jail time to be spent in the farmers fields picking crops and when harvest is over send them back home. So, bring back slave labor.

That is when you tax citizens to pay the expense of illegals. Work, pay taxes and shut up. We should take away the ability of the federal government to redistribute money. Taxes should only pay for legitimate federal government requirements and never for free stuff for loafers and grifters.

That's called taxation with representation. JustMe: Work, pay taxes and shut up. Well, no. Speak up, if you don't like the situation. However, it's best not to base your opinions on "alternative facts." JustMe: We should take away the ability of the federal government to redistribute money. All taxes redistribute money. That's rather the point. JustMe: Taxes should only pay for legitimate federal government requirements and never for free stuff for loafers and grifters. The vast majority of immigrants come to the U.S. to work. Indeed, you seem to have acknowledged such when you talked about agricultural workers, only you want to force them to work for free, rather than deporting them.

I can think of one reason.
The American people don't pass legislation for the U.S. Didn't your paymasters teach you anything? Earle: The American people don't pass legislation for the U.S.
They elect representatives. It's up to the American people to decide who their representatives will be. But it turns out, it's hard to get elected when you advocate ending popular programs. (Also, some states could end Obamacare through direct democracy.) Z is such a piece of trash.
Please don't feed this piece of shit. Apparatchiks gonna apparatchik. I do wonder how much $coin$ they are paid (Thank you Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, et al.) for being little propagandists. Filthy and evil like roaches. But that wrongs the roach. Apologies to SC. Why don't the media ever ask why previous IPCC predictions have been so wrong? ummmmm, because they'd be shot????? Or would have a ton load of excrement be dumped on them????
(That would be MY vote!) Zachrial and Fauci: What a GREAT LOUSY couple of goobers! I believe that sometime before the Nov election that the Democrats will" ease" out Biden and find some way to by pass Harris and they will effectively "appoint" a new president. Most likely not Pelosi. Most likely a radical black politician activist. I think that they know they are going to lose big in November and they want one last chance to put a time bomb in place to blow us all up.
An alternative guess is that sometime perhaps just a few weeks before the election there will be a crisis so big that all rights will be suspended (for our own good of course) and they will use the crisis to steal the election for Democrat congress people. The IPCC predictions haven't been wrong. It's just that they were a little bit early.
Pro tip: That reasoning also works when you're selling stock tips. Sam L: Why don't the media ever ask why previous IPCC predictions have been so wrong?
Hairless Joe: The IPCC predictions haven't been wrong. It's just that they were a little bit early. As above, Forecast evaluation for models run in 2004 show the close fit between projections and observations. Oh goody! Another dated graph with meaningless squiggly lines proving nothing of significance.
