We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The question remains, "Why would you want to send your kid for indoctrination at one of these woke institutions where the ideology will remain the same even if they are FORCED to grant admission based on merit instead of race instead of doing so because it's the right thing to do?"
Why is this political? Because most public schools are controlled by unions that pay Democratic politicians to protect them from competition. Everyone knows what would happen to a whole lot of public schools if they had to compete for tuition dollars.
While this piece focuses on the Green Beret, one wonders how pervasive the loss is in other parts of the miulitary?
In this piece no mention is made of wokeness driving people out, though I would speculate it may indeed be a factor. The implication in the article is that the officer loss is a rather recent phenomenon. It sounds very much like the climate mirrors corporate America's attitudes of middle and upper management, and the way they promote people.
There is a reason that the Miley and Austin culture dominates the military branches. They were not promoted within the warrior class but, instead, were promoted through the political class. The results showed up on the Afghan withdrawal. Politicians do not make good military leaders.
No one is arguing for US troops there. US and NATO countries are providing defensive weapons and supplies, and should provide much more. It is Russia, trying to reassemble the Soviet dominance of Eastern Europe and pressure Western Europe to accede to Russia (and ally China) policies and aggressions, who will be bogged down (as Reagan did to them in Afghanistan).
I invite anyone who fails to understand the foolishness of putting two armies (or ships or planes, etc) facing each other while feckless bureaucrats threaten and posture for the cameras; to go to your local redneck or bikers bar and stand up and call them all names. Please get back to us when you learn exactly what the mistake our fake president is committing.
The goal should be to prevent Russia from retaking any or all of Eastern Europe. Not challenging then to a fight, not taking actions that we all know won't work just so we will look good politically and not listening to the war mongers. We should have been working that goal 30 years ago and not starting yesterday.
Back in 2004, offspring was studying at Kosice, eastern Slovakia, when the Russians began to make invasion noises. Checked with offspring as to whether or not knew about the situation and what the plans were should things get dicey. Response was that keeping close track of the goings on and - should the situation warrant - would throw the essentials into a classmate's car and they'd head west pronto. Fortunately, it never came to that.
EV needs 13 freezing hours to get 650 km with 3 charging stops and no heater
A German car reporter bought a new VW e-Up car in Wolfsburg and drove the 650 km to Munich. But the weather was freezing and to get further on each charge Lisa Brack kept the heating off most of the time. She still needed three charging stops and took 13 hours to get home.
The entire "green" industry is dishonest. The true costs are hidden and the benefits are exaggerated. What is needed is a forensic audit of the data. If the truth were known most of the new green transportation alternatives and energy generation would be eliminated because they simply do not work.
Just the battery alone will require more energy from fossil fuels to mine, manufacture, transport, maintain and dispose of than the electric vehicle will ever replace. Not to mention the pollution and risks that the batteries cause.
At this point all of the commercial "green" energy is a scam. The true costs are hidden by a myriad number of taxes, transfers, mandates and subsidies. The way the money and contracts are allocated is consistent with doing business in a 3rd world banana republic, that is everyone involved is on the take including the scientists.
Green energy and green transportation will never be practical until the government is 100% out of it. Once this happens the phony scam projects and companies will go bankrupt and then it will be possible for genuine "green" energy and transportation to be created. Get the money and political influence out of it and maybe something that will actually work might be invented.
