Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

What did progressives use before ice boxes? Electric refrigeration. They really want the masses back to pre-industrial revolution conditions.
"Most of us have been optimistic about the new mayor, though it is probably too soon to judge him on his ability to tamp down crime." This, the mayor that reversed course on one of his primary platform positions, a few days after taking office: Signalling that he will now support legislation allowing residents of NYC that are in the country illegally, to vote in city elections - illegally.
There you have it: That's why NYC is in the state it's in, and it won't be changing anytime soon. It's all yours, Stuart. Enjoy. school closures may have been about concern for the kids early on in this pandemic but clearly today it is about politics. Simple solution, stop paying teachers unless they are in the classroom. As for online learning that could be done by an app. You don't need tens of thousands of teachers teaching the same thing on the internet. Video it once and your good to go.
I think 95% of the problem could be self-correcting with the stroke of a pen, if legislation mandating school choice for parents were to be enacted across the states, along with support for charter schools. With school choice comes competition, and with competition comes the discarding of ideas that are unpopular, as well as scrutiny of teacher and administrative performance. Let the Public School system and the unions suffer their own miserable decline without inflicting it on students as a matter of policy.
I said that in 2020 when the closures were really up for debate.
I also pointed out that a very large district, like the one where I live, would benefit b/c all students could be taught by the best teacher for a given subject. It was hilarious to read the irrational, nonsensical contrived pushback as teachers and other leftists tried to find some way of criticizing saving money and improving education all while giving them exactly what they asked for. Public schools are a farce. I don't know if this has always been true, but it's blatantly obvious now. The bad guy was killed https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2022/01/17/was-the-terrorist-attack-in-colleyville-a-replay-of-the-terrorist-attack-in-garland-in-2015/ But who else was involved.
Bari Weiss and other Jews are finally realizing two things: that the Left doesn't like them any more than the far-Right does, and that the mainstream media only cares about crime when it's perpetrated by White males. I fear that such a realization is late in the game, though; anti-Semitism is only going to get worse.
Can anyone name a country that bends so far over, to allow you to vote? America will print the ballot in any language you desire. We’ll allow you to vote for months before an election; register on the very day of election, bus you around to polling centers, or give you a mail in ballot (sometimes both). Heck you don’t even need to be a citizen to vote! No identification, no problem, here’s a ballot. Even the dead vote! Yet if the left loses, it is literally the end of democracy. The end of the world. Everything the left demands is just reasonable, fair and rational. If you disagree, why you must be an anti democratic homophobic, racist hater. White people suck! Why, you probably hate your own mother - by the way we will be demanding that you give up your children to the state, because you obviously can not raise these children properly - hater! Here, have another ballot, it’s all filled out for you.
TExas Synagogue near-catastrophe:
Grateful the Rabbi and others got out safely and the kidnapper shot. But, NPR reports that this rabbi INVITED the shooter, thinking him homeless and made him tea !!! Iin a time of Covid , when only three of his congegrants came in person, what stunning disregard of the safety of the congregants to invite and unkown person into the synagogue (who later turns out to be the shooter. ) That is the part of "training" that the Rabbi did so very very wrong. In Israel, our synagogue had a congregant member greeting all members . He was armed, cradling a rifle, as he was gracious . (I did this one morning ). Anyone new was greeted and inspected before enteriing.. The building's entrance was at the side (facing the street wasn't safe) Why are we celebrating the FDA abdicating its job?
Since 1950, the federal government has defined French dressing by a rigid set of standards that it had said would protect consumers from “economic adulteration,” or food fraud, and reflect their expectations about food. Distinguished by its reddish-orange color and sweet taste, French dressing had been required to contain at least 35 percent vegetable oil, in addition to an acid, such as vinegar or lemon or lime juice. But an industry group contended that the regulations were, well, passé. The standards, it said, hampered the ability of food companies to tweak their recipes to meet changing tastes and dietary needs. This is a pretty lame excuse to stop enforcing a sensible rule. Especially as we see many recent stories demonstrating food adulteration is more common than often realized. The need to tweak recipes is simple to address: you put out a new product. These companies do it all the time. As in all the time. That's an explicit part of their business plan. It's obvious on most any trip through a modern grocery store. The demand to label a new product as an old one is overtly a demand to adulterate the food. Exactly what the rules intended to protect consumers against. Too bad when straightforward, useful regulations are set aside. Even worse when we see disregard for regulation as commonplace in all institutions. Ever hear of Benevolent Sexism? QUOTE: Psychologists refer to the paternalistic attitudes underlying these behaviours as benevolent sexism. Benevolent sexism involves the belief that men should cherish and protect women, and “put them on a pedestal”. This is because women are viewed as being more morally pure, weaker, and in need of protection. Although benevolent sexism has a positive tone, research has found people higher on these attitudes also tend to be higher on hostile sexism. Hostile sexism involves overtly negative and suspicious views of women - this is what people generally think about when they think of sexism. Who knew? https://theconversation.com/no-chivalry-is-not-dead-but-its-about-time-it-was-174197 I think the psychologists lost their grip on "behaviors" quite some time back.
Oh, brother. Benevolent sexism, the poisoned chalice. I wonder how many cats she has.
DO ELECTRIC VEHICLES REALLY HELP THE ENVIRONMENT?
A dose of reality QUOTE: One electric car battery has twenty-five pounds of lithium, sixty pounds of nickel, 44 pounds of manganese, 30 pounds cobalt, 200 pounds of copper, and 400 pounds of aluminum, steel, and plastic. Inside are 6,831 individual lithium-ion cells. It should concern you that all those toxic components come from mining. For instance, to manufacture each auto battery, you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium, 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, and 25,000 pounds of ore for copper. All told, you dig up 500,000 pounds of the earth’s crust for just – one – battery.” . . . . The main problem with solar arrays is the chemicals needed to process silicate into the silicon used in the panels. To make pure enough silicon requires processing it with hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrogen fluoride, trichloroethane, and acetone. In addition, they also need gallium, arsenide, copper-indium-gallium-diselenide, and cadmium-telluride, which also are highly toxic. Silicon dust is a hazard to the workers, and the panels cannot be recycled. Windmills are the ultimate in embedded costs and environmental destruction. Each weigh 1688 tons (the equivalent of 23 houses) and contains 1300 tons of concrete, 295 tons of steel, 48 tons of iron, 24 tons of fiberglass, and the hard to extract rare earths neodymium, praseodymium, and dysprosium. Each blade weighs 81,000 pounds and will last 15 to 20 years, at which time it must be replaced. We cannot recycle used blades. Sadly, both solar arrays and windmills kill birds, bats, sea life, and migratory insects. https://www.unitedpatriotsofamerica.com/category/electric-vehicles-ev Well, those are pretty daunting numbers, but according to the article in City Journal linked above the "Metaverse" will provide us with "autonomy from the physical world". Problem solved!
