We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

It would appear that East Germany won the reunification. Poland, the Baltic Republics and other Eastern European countries that escaped from under the boot of the former Soviet Union hardest hit.

I think that the best antidote to the media's abuse of Mass Formation technique is prior exposure to the concept in schools and other media, so I'm glad to see MF gain official Meme status!

The earlier the exposure, the better. If the teachers unions'd allow it to be taught to 5th graders, we'd really get somewhere.

Fire all the teachers who refuse to show up. Take the union to court for "insurrection". Ban all unions of public service workers. Hire anyone, college degree or not, who can pass a background check. I mean, seriously, do you think teaching kids is so difficult that you need a degree??? Hire grandparents, we all know basic math, history, English and science and we all would probably do a better job.

Is it possible that the U.S. is headed towards a food crisis. This is being predicted. In producing, transporting and selling food products the shutdowns and mandates are making it more difficult at every level. Because of energy and fertilizer costs and availability the harvest in 2022 is expected to be dramatically lower. All of these variables seem to have been sabotaged intentionally but who would do that and why? The conspiracy theory is that it is the elite in the new world order who are pulling the strings. Well until the last 12 months or so conspiracy theories were looked on a "nutty" but in this last year almost all of them turned out to be accurate.

So, is there a conspiracy to bring American citizens to their knees by starvation? Of course not, right? I mean, com'on it's not as though we have vax passports or legislators have tried to pass laws to put the unvax'ed in gulags. It's fine! Don't worry. Move along, nothing to see here. Oh, look!! Insurrectionists!!

I wouldn't take one farmer's word in Australia as gospel.

You can still farm and grow crops without Nitrogen fertilizer, the problem of course is that yields would plummet.

The retail suppiers are telling us that there will be an adequate supply of fertilizer by spring. They also think the price will come down significantly. Nonetheless, farmers bought as much fertilizer as they could at double the price last fall. Producers are hopeful the suppliers are right but no one wants to be caught with no fertilizer at all.

While my crstal ball doesn't see things being as bad as the article you linked to indicates, I would readily agree that theings are headed in that general direction.

If illegal alien children are being turned over to adoption agencies that engage in LBGTQ+ programs, doesn't that raise any suspicions that they're being brought in to be exploited by those groups? Is ANYONE investigating this? ANYONE?

The honorable and Christian thing to do is return these children to their families as fast as possible. Pick them up at the border and get them on a plane back to where they came from within hours. Do exactly the same for any adult too. Ask them two questions when you pick them up: Which country did you come from? and put them on a plane back home. Second question just before putting them on the plane would be do I need to handcuff you or will you cooperate?

Interesting piece about the Orthodox monastery, but it's too short. I'd like to read more.

The only doubts I have about converting to the Catholic Church revolve around if I should have become Eastern Orthodox. I think they more resemble the original Church and what Jesus intended. But they are also more removed from the world, at least in the U.S., which is not what the Apostles intended.

I hope that one day the two churches can reconcile and heal the Great Schism under one holy, catholic, and apostolic church.

An an Orthodox (a Protestant convert), I wish I was closer to St.Tikon’s. To answer the concern above, we do not remove ourselves from the world, but periods of silence and asceticism are good for the soul. We are in this world, but we are not of it. We are of God. For the Orthodox, the Christian Faith is something we live every day. We pray often. We fast. We try to daily grow closer to the life Christ called us to. Do we fail? Often. But we are in the hands of a merciful God, who hears our prayer: “Lord Jesus Christ, Som of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
