Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Speak up for the J6 political prisoners being held in deplorable conditions. Demand that the FBI and DOJ get investigated for their complicity in this crime and their trashing of constitutional rights.
Viagra — is there anything it can't do? It can't make water wet.
QUOTE: Viagra — is there anything it can't do? It can't make water wet. Quite so. Viagra is not a surfactant. The Ukraine is massively corrupt. Not that Russia isn't, but they're not exactly "free and prosperous", they're a kleptocracy.
If we had leadership in this country that actually cared about liberty and "good" government they'd be holding the Ukraine's feet to teh fire over their corruption. And a bunch of other countries. Thanks for the laugh.
There's nothing quite like the stench of hypocrisy. Re: Biden dismantling democracies, I’ve often wondered what exactly BHO meant when he told Biden he “didn’t have to do this”. On its face it might have meant running for President. Being the master dissembler he is, BHO may actually have meant go down in history as the vessel for collapsing the USA, and by extension, global democracies.
Biden is a senile old fool, he's been one all his life. He's a plagiarist and a liar and a teller of tall tales, for all his years in government, what has he accomplished of note? No, Biden isn't calling the shots, there's somebody pulling his strings. Given that his primary focus seems to be rehabilitating Obama's legacy and restoring Obama's policies, I have a suspicion that I know who's pulling Joe's strings.
QUOTE: 6 Basic Concepts Liberals Don't Get . . . liberals are emotional, rather than rational, animals. That's an obvious overgeneralization. While liberals envision social changes, most are as rational as most other human beings. QUOTE: 1. Science is never settled In science, 'fact' can only mean 'confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent.' — Stephen Jay Gould QUOTE: 2. Stimulus spending stimulates only government growth That is not always correct. If there is unused productive capacity and an underutilization of liquidity, then government spending will trade wealth for economic activity. This is important during severe economic downturns to prevent extensive damage to the economy. (If, however, there is little unused productive capacity then stimulus will create inflation; while if there is little unused liquidity, then stimulus will create a rise in the cost of borrowing.) QUOTE: 3. Welfare spending doesn't cure poverty; it creates it While long term support can be a disincentive, short term support can be important for repositioning people to reenter the economy, resulting in increased productivity. Many social programs, such as social security, universal healthcare not tied to the employer, and child care, increase productivity by allowing workers greater economic mobility. QUOTE: 4. Racism cannot be eliminated with racism. Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of a world in which his children "will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." ''Whenever this issue of compensatory or preferential treatment for the Negro is raised,'' Dr. King wrote, ''some of our friends recoil in horror. The Negro should be granted equality, they agree; but he should ask nothing more. On the surface, this appears reasonable, but it is not realistic. For it is obvious that if a man is entered at the starting line in a race 300 years after another man, the first would have to perform some impossible feat in order to catch up with his fellow runner.'' QUOTE: 5. Biological sex is not a choice God has granted us While most people fit comfortably into binary sexual distinctions, some do not. And gender is even more variable. QUOTE: 6. Reality is not fungible True enough, but as history has shown, many aspects of society are amenable to change, and the history of the world since the Renaissance has seen a dramatic increase in social and political equality. QUOTE: Conservatives want the same outcomes as liberals but understand that simplistic solutions don't fix problems; they perpetuate them. The premise is appreciated; however, there is plenty of simplistic thinking on both sides of the ideological divide. The Belgian psychologist's theory of mass psychotic hysteria is no more than that. It is spun out of sitting and thinking, not any hard data. Lots of people have declared mass psychosis to be real, with various ideas what it is and how it comes about. I have read many over the years. One or some of them may be true-ish. But it isn't something that has ever been defined, measured, compared, followed.
Frankly, people just say this shit whenever they see lots of other people believing something they don't like. It's been happening for decades. It appears that YOU are the proof of his theory. Me thinks thee protest too much.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Why did the 600+ adult People's Temple victims drink the Kool Aid to 'transition to the other side', as Jones supposedly instructed? Also - with such a subjective kind to topic, how would one go about measuring a group psychosis? I would have thought that following a leader's instructions to commit suicide after watching your own children die would be plenty proof enough.

As we saw in the 1970s, Democrats are trying to shift the blame of responsibility for inflation from themselves to "greedy corporations." Here is the latest accusation: https://mishtalk.com/economics/biden-goes-after-the-4-top-meatpackers-blaming-them-for-inflation Do you suppose he'll accuse his mogul tech allies of being greedy and causing inflation? QUOTE: The pollster found that likely voters, by a 46%-38% margin, believe “there is a group of politicized thugs at the top of the FBI who are using the FBI … as Joe Biden’s personal Gestapo.” . . . Republicans especially feel negative about the FBI, with 64% feeling it is the president’s “Gestapo.” And 30% of Democrats agreed. . . . Said Rasmussen’s analysis, “Fifty percent of voters now believe the FBI director is influenced by the president in his decision-making, while only 26% believe Wray is truly independent of the administration, and another 25% are not sure. That’s a near-complete reversal from May 2017, when 53% believed the FBI director was truly independent and 26% thought he was influenced by the president.” https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/washington-secrets/fbi-brass-seen-as-bidens-personal-gestapo-poll |
