Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

McWhorter and Loury are my most valuable vblog right now. I really appreciate their willingness to confront difficult issues and admire their efforts to pick their way through them. They do a great job of it, I just wish the ethos would take root more quickly.
On the TDS issues, I have to admit it's gratifying to finally see the Democrats squirm and then bridle at the slightly-faster-than-slo-pitch questions from the not-quite-ready-for-prime-time press. After all, sooner or later you have to sell papers and advertising space, and with approval ratings below sea level, well....those are the breaks. Seeing Pelosi and Psaki getting irritated at these transgressions is delicious. Re:blaming smash and grabs on Wuhan flu
Then they must be Biden’s fault. Biden said every Wuhan flu death in 2020 was Trump’s fault and he was going to stop the virus (and the deaths). He has not only failed at stopping it, by the number of deaths, it is now worse. By the Biden administration’s logic, Biden is responsible for both the rise in crime and deaths. Good job, Joe! Democrats' Unhinged Trump Hatred Isn't Really Working Out Well for Them: Trump's smile just quadruples Dems' stomach acid. I am sooooo not bummed for them.
I have a IRA and I am over the age of 72. The government requires me under penalty to take some of my IRA out of the fund every year so it is no longer exempt from taxation. It kinda makes sense. But very rich people who are invested regardless of age or what their investment is are not required to take money from a tax deferred investment. And they have the option to take that money and give it to "charity" (many "charities" being so loosely defined that they are merely scams) and pay no taxes. I would suggest that everyone with more than a million in a tax deferred investment be required to take out a small percentage of that each year, say 5%, and pay taxes on it. And that the charitable deduction be limited to perhaps $1000 per year per person.
Every year when RMDs roll around, my broker rolls them into tax-free municipal bonds. One and done on that tax crap.
What they won't tell you about Dauante Wright who was accidently shot during a traffic stop as he resisted arrest. https://www.foxnews.com/us/kim-potter-trial-daunte-wright-minnesota-karma perhaps if the media did their job there wouldnb't be so much violence following these incidents.
West Side Story has long been my favorite movie.
Spielberg did a "decent" job with it? Then why bother, the original is still brilliant. 10 Academy Awards brilliant. What was missing that he needed to get involved? The ads look pathetic, his approach is gimmicky. I don't know that I've ever cared for or about a Spielberg movie. Other than derision, I'm guessing this will just be one more on the list. Ghost town at the edge of the world.
six and a half minute BBC video on the Kennicott copper mine located in Alaska and closed in 1938. Interesting story with some then and now footage. https://www.bbc.com/reel/video/p08svx89/the-picturesque-ghost-town-at-the-edge-of-the-world New York is still having a hard time understanding the Nuremberg Code. I will make a guess that a lawyer will eventually bring it to their attention.
I was hoping that the incoming mayor of NYC would have announced today that he would be canceling the mandate as soon as he was sworn in, so everybody please take a time-out on this.
Urban Criminals Are Following Wealthy Individuals Back To Their Homes In Order To Rob Them
QUOTE: Suspects have been locating victims before following them and committing the robberies as the victim arrives home or at their business, according to a safety bulletin released by the department’s Robbery-Homicide Division. Burglars in California are appearing to target the homes of Asian-Americans while posing as landscapers in a series of thefts that come amid a rise in follow-home robberies, authorities said last week. The Torrance Police Department issued a warning on Wednesday about the similarities between multiple residential burglaries that have occurred in recent weeks in Torrance, a city in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area. Authorities say victims have been followed from places such as the Jewelry District of Los Angeles, nightclubs and high-end restaurants, and along Melrose Avenue. The shooting death of philanthropist Jackie Avant, wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant, in a Dec. 1 break-in at the couple’s Beverly Hills home has also raised fear in entertainment circles and brought new urgency to solving these increasingly violent crimes. “It’s hard to believe someone would murder an 81-year-old woman in the middle of the night at Trousdale Estates,” said veteran radio host and Avant family friend, Tavis Smiley, in an interview with TheWrap. “It’s hard to wrap your mind around something so barbaric.” Celebrities all over L.A. are freaking out about this incident because they realize that the exact same thing could soon happen to them. Cannabis shops across the San Francisco Bay Area have been thrown into dire straits as gangs of thieves broke into more than 15 shops throughout November during the series of ‘smash-and-grab’ robberies that are plaguing California. Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong told reporters that ‘hundreds’ of vehicles targeted marijuana stores in Oakland last month, firing 175 shots and stealing about $5 million worth of products. . . . At Bank of America, senior executives have quietly encouraged younger employees to “dress down” to attract less attention as they make their way to B of A’s tower at 1 Bryant Park. These execs have told their staffers that dressing up, or wearing anything with a Bank of America logo, could make them a target. One bank employee told On The Money he is on high alert after he spotted someone with a knife near the office during a recent trek to the Manhattan workplace. A Columbia University doctoral student was knifed to death Thursday night near the Ivy League college’s historic Manhattan campus – one of three people attacked by an ‘ecstatic’ gang member on a violent stabbing spree. Davide Giri, 30, a PhD candidate in computer science, died around 11pm after being stabbed in the stomach by a 25-year-old member of the Bloods gang off-shoot, Everybody Killas, who has 16 prior arrests dating back to 2012 and was out on parole for a 2015 gang assault, police said. http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/a-robin-hood-mentality-urban-criminals-are-following-wealthy-individuals-back-to-their-homes-in-order-to-rob-them/ I guess I have a slightly different picture of Robin Hood in my mind's eye, Errol Flynn maybe. But then I realized that the words only appear in the title, so I guess it's another case of modern education standards meeting 'journalizm'.
