Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Father Christmas Vs Santa Claus
https://www.heritagedaily.com/2021/12/father-christmas-vs-santa-claus/142159 I couldn't be happier to see Beto running once again for Governor. He's doing it for his own gratification, while letting us all know he's doing it for us, and he's so inept the former sentiment shines brightly through, nonetheless. Show us your skateboard again, Beto.
The Republican Corporate Press is having a fine time laughing at Stacy Abrams announcing her run - if it's possible to visualize that - for the Georgia Governorship. Laugh it up, losers. Who was the one responsible for organizing the Get Out The Vote in the last election, hmmm? Are you sure she's the buffoon you say she is - or is she a sharp, dangerous opponent that will do what it takes? How many of those thousands of ballots originating from parking lots, UPS mail drops, and identical POBox addresses did you get reversed on the final count? Who's really laughing? "Don't Look Now, but Food Charity and Farmers Markets Are Part of 'White Supremacy Culture' Too"
Hell, let's kick whypeeboo out of food production altogether. It worked for Zimbabwe, right? Right? Aussies go FULL-HITLER: News at 11!!
Food Charity and Farmers Markets Are Part of 'White Supremacy Culture' Too: White Supremacy Uber Alles!!!!!!!!!! (SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH!!) (Get a life!!!!!) New Leftist Position: Abortion Is Good Because Adoption Is Traumatic: Not as traumatic as death... So I'm in Vegas this weekend. One of the things I have always hated about going to Vegas is that smoking is allowed in all the casinos. The air is deadly. But I am struck by the irony that in these toxic cancer causing smoke filled casinos that I am required to wear a mask. We know the mask doesn't work. I am fully vaccinated and boostered and can prove it, but I must wear the fake mask which suprisingly doesn't filter out the smoke which is about 20 times larger than the virus. Follow the science we are told while we all ignore the real science.
Masks have a small positive effect and no serious person has ever claimed otherwise. Some pearl-clutchers have indeed regarded the symbolism of masklessness as a threat to civilisation as we know it, yes. (I could tell you stories.) We therefore end up arguing over that small gain, with knuckleheads on both sides claiming "THEY ARE REALLY IMPORTANT!" versus "THEY DO NOTHING!"
You will do better to fall for neither side. Masks are a small price. They are a good thing. They don't fix much in the long run. We should be especially careful for those who have to interact with a thousand people a day, like waitstaff and cashiers, for whom the effect is multiplied. The people you see in the parking lot? Meh. Small positive effect? Do they prevent transmission??? If so why do I have to wear a mask since they work for everyone else. Why do we spend big bucks on expensive equipment for health care workers? The masks are simply for show. In Vegas you can slip your mask down at the gaming table to smoke or drink. And of course you magically don't need them to eat. We all know this is phony even if we never read the side of the box of masks which says that they will not prevent the transmission of viruses.
JustMe: Small positive effect? Do they prevent transmission???
Black and white thinking. The probability of infection is due to the size of the viral load someone receives. Masks reduce the viral load and so reduce the probability of transmission. JustMe: If so why do I have to wear a mask since they work for everyone else. To reduce the probability of transmission. JustMe: Why do we spend big bucks on expensive equipment for health care workers? Because the concentrations of viruses are much higher for those who work with COVID patients.

Black and white thinking!!! Actually the science says that a human only needs to breathe in 7-15 virus to become infected. At best a mask (at best means the mask must be worn correctly and never touched and changed out often) filters out 8% of virus. But the virus is in the air in the millions. So you breathe in 92% of millions of virus. So tell me again that the mask serves any purpose at all!!! Except to separate the sheep from the free people.

Masks are very effective at stopping droplets, which contain large numbers of viruses. They are less effective at stopping aerosols, which build up in an occupied enclosed area over time, but many aerosol particles do not contain any viruses. The result for aerosols is that masks have little effect when there are very few infected aerosol particles (e.g. outdoors on a windy day), and work poorly when there is a large number of infected aerosol particles (e.g. hospitals, crowded bars), but work well in many environments people typically find themselves in (e.g. grocery stores, many work environments). See Cheng et al., Face masks effectively limit the probability of SARS-CoV-2 transmission, Science 2021.

The parents of Ethan Crumbly are going to be publicly lynched. Not sure why. I'm guessing because they aren't black AND most importantly they take the spotlight off all the black criminals that our justice system puts back out on the street after committing felonies. I don't know if the parents did something wrong or if they did if it rises to charges that will put them in jail for life. But I do know a public lynching when I see one and this one is going to be a spectacle.
You remember the two teen girls accused of killing an Uber driver in a botched carjacking in Washington, DC, in March? They are going to jail until they are 18, Their parents weren't charged with murder. Why is that? Would have to agree with you on this. Maybe running as they knew what was going to happen to them in the press even before court.
The prosecutor knows a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to claim her 15 minutes of fame though, she's hoping to parlay that into a shot at higher office. I have to wonder why, if she has this novel theory that the parents are at fault for not recognizing that their son was a nutcase, she's not charging the teachers and administrators at the school that recognized this kid was a nutcase and yet did nothing about it either. Personally, I think if the kid's lawyers have a lick of sense, they'll be pushing the idea that the Covid pandemic with its school suspensions, social distancing rules, lockdowns, etc. are what led to the sense of isolation that pushed this poor troubled emotionally fragile child over the edge and therefore this is all Joe Biden's fault.
Interesting that Michigan DA Karen McDonald announces charges against the Crumblys at a media event long before the couple was arrested. (Notice the hair, makeup, nails, earrings and party dress.)
"I’ve been sheriff for 21 years," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told "NewsNation Now," "and I’ve never had anyone have a press conference announcing charges before we had the opportunity to have somebody in custody." QUOTE: Crumbley attorney Mariell Lehman accused Karen McDonald of creating a media "spectacle" during Saturday's hearing after her clients did not appear at an arraignment apparently scheduled for Friday. Instead, local law enforcement officials sent out a "be on the lookout" (BOLO) alert and searched for the pair with help from the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities eventually found them in a commercial building in Detroit early Saturday morning. Their defense attorneys argued that they were unaware charges would be filed against them on Friday and isolated themselves for their safety. https://www.foxnews.com/us/james-jennifer-crumbley-texts-school-shooting I understand that the original DA that rejected charging the three men in the Arbery case has been charged with improperly doing her job (not the exact charge but it is kinda secret so I don't know what the exact charge is). I don't know if she did something wrong or not but it will be an interesting precedent. There are DA's all over the country failing to charge felons and then of course there is this school shooting case where the DA may be overstepping her authority.
Anon: (not the exact charge but it is kinda secret so I don't know what the exact charge is)
So secret you can find it on the Georgia Office of the Attorney General website. https://law.georgia.gov/press-releases/2021-09-02/carr-announces-indictment-former-brunswick-da-violation-oath-public Anon: There are DA's all over the country failing to charge felons There are legitimate reasons not to prosecute a felony (e.g. lack of evidence, plea bargain, state's evidence), but showing personal favoritism is a violation of the oath of office.

The grand jury found probable cause that she obstructed and hindered the investigation due to favoritism towards a defendant with whom she had previously worked, Greg McMichael. That doesn't mean she is guilty of the allegations. https://law.georgia.gov/press-releases/2021-09-02/carr-announces-indictment-former-brunswick-da-violation-oath-public By comparison, you waved your hands in the general direction of "Soros bought DAs."

The Christmas parade killer, Darrell Brooks, used a deadly weapon to kill those six people. Everyone he knew, including police and [prosecutors knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that one day he would use that deadly weapon to kill someone. He had already tried to. Where are the charges against his parents, his girlfriend, the police the prosecutor and whoever sold him a car??? What is the difference between one deadly weapon and another?
It's a good point. I worked in acute mental health emergencies my whole career. It was hard to keep pointing out to these reflexive liberals that cars were a much more dangerous deadly weapon than guns, however they felt about that viscerally. And, as one who worked with a fair number of those whose crime was homicide or attempted homicide, notice also arson (when the inhabitants were asleep), poisoning, and lying in wait for strangling at night.
Guns. Scary but hardly ever the weapon of choice outside of bad urban neighborhoods. Here is a good example https://theothermccain.com/2021/12/02/killadelphia-d-a-turned-loose-teen-carjacker-who-murdered-marxist-student/ this is just crazy.
Anon: They are going to jail until they are 18, Their parents weren't charged with murder. Why is that?
The parents didn't provide them with the weapon they used during the carjacking or text them, "LOL I'm not mad at you. You have to learn not to get caught." Is it illegal to buy a gun for your child? Perhaps not wise but is it illegal?
My understanding is those texts were for a different event than the shooting. WTF: My understanding is those texts were for a different event than the shooting.
The day before the shooting, the son was caught searching for ammunition on his smartphone. The teacher reported it. WTF: Is it illegal to buy a gun for your child? Perhaps not wise but is it illegal? The charges are for negligence resulting in homicide. The parents had just bought the gun for their son. They were called to the school the day of the shooting after a teacher found and reported a note by the son including drawings of guns and bloodied people with captions "the thoughts won't stop. Help me," "blood everywhere," "My life is useless," and "The world is dead." They failed to check for the gun, or ask their son about the gun, or even take their son home as the school recommended. What do you think what would constitute the minimum level of care in this situation? The teachers who reported the incidents must be especially devastated. My cousin and my son-in-law were both raised by adoptive fathers. They honor and love those men as their true fathers and miss them everyday since their passing, because the biological fathers were total crap. I've known other families with an adopted child, and most of them seem to forget that the child doesn't share their DNA. To them, blood doesn't determine family.
Don't talk to me about how traumatic adoption is supposed to be. Never explained: how did Epstein get his money?
He owned an entire Caribbean island and the largest house in Manhattan. According to public sources the number of Epstein's clients: one. Wild guess: he had photos of men having sex with minor girls. Speaking as an adopted kid, it was NOT traumatic for me. My lovely wife is adopted, too, and she agrees.
Abortion is much more traumatic, both for the mother and the now-dead child. Now this is interesting https://freenorthcarolina.blogspot.com/2021/12/did-wikileaks-just-dump-all-their-files.html I wonder what is going on.
