We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Nothing like autumn in New England. I just booked a room at the Lizzie Borden bed and breakfast for a weekend trip. I just hope that the economy holds out for a little while longer.
Fall mushroom season around here, too. Bright lemony yellows, pure red ones, warty agarics. A couple of years ago I spotted blue ones out in Wells Mills. I don't think I'd eat those.
We've been getting tons of these out in the front yard just the last couple of years, didn't know what they were called. Also getting a lot of what I call 'potato mushrooms', they look exactly like a potato popping up out of the ground, no stems, no gills, just this solid mottled brown lump that seemingly springs up fully formed overnight. We've got some oak trees out in the front yard, one of them we had to cut down a few years ago, don't know if that might have something to do with the sudden proliferation of mushrooms.
